Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Published earn rates are 5 points per $1 at hotels, 4 points per $1 with airlines, 3 points per $1 on other travel and at restaurants, and 1 point per $1 on other purchases. [2]
- A new account can earn 60,000 bonus rewards points after $4,000 in net purchases posts within the first three months. [2]
- Each year the card provides a one-time $50 statement credit on the first airline purchase of at least $50. [2]
- Points belong to the Wells Fargo Rewards® programme, where they can be taken as a statement credit, used against a past purchase, spent at checkout with PayPal, exchanged for gift cards or used for travel. [2] [4]
How do you earn points with the Autograph Journey® Card?
Points are earned on net purchases, meaning purchases minus returns and credits, and the rate depends on the merchant category code a retailer uses rather than on the name of the shop. [2] As of 18 October 2026, Wells Fargo publishes the following rates. [2]
| Purchase category | Points per $1 | How the rate is built |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels, coded as hotel or motel | 5 | 1 base point plus 4 bonus points [2] |
| Airlines and air carriers | 4 | 1 base point plus 3 bonus points [2] |
| Restaurants, including eating places, drinking places, fast food restaurants and caterers | 3 | 1 base point plus 2 bonus points [2] |
| Other travel: timeshares, vehicle and auto rental, cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites and campgrounds | 3 | 1 base point plus 2 bonus points [2] |
| Other purchases | 1 | Base point only [2] |
Cash advances and cash equivalents of any kind do not earn points. [2] The full exclusion list, and merchant examples that may not be billed under the category codes above, sit in the Wells Fargo Rewards® Program Terms and Conditions and the Autograph Journey Visa® Card Addendum. [2]
What does the 60,000-point intro offer require?
The introductory offer on the Autograph Journey® Card is 60,000 bonus rewards points, earned when at least $4,000 in net purchases posts to the account within three months of the account opening date. [2] Bonus points show as redeemable within 60 days after they are earned. [2]
Several kinds of transaction do not count toward the requirement and earn no points: cash advances and cash equivalents such as ATM transactions, traveler's checks, money orders, pre-paid gift cards, person-to-person money transfers, digital currencies to the extent accepted, and wire transfers; balance transfers; disputes, illegal actions and violations; fees and interest of any kind, including late fees, returned payment fees and annual fees; and gambling transactions of any kind. [2] Cash advances and balance transfers may also reduce the credit line available for the offer. [2]
How does the $50 annual airline credit work?
Each year the card provides a one-time $50 statement credit when the card is used for the first airline purchase of at least $50. [2] Only purchases at retailers whose merchant category code is airline or air carrier count, and charter flights and private jet flights are not treated as airlines or air carriers. [2]
In the first year the credit is available at account opening. [2] After that, the 12-month airline credit period begins on the first day of the month after the annual fee is assessed and renews every 12 months; if the annual fee is assessed on 10 November, the credit period begins on 1 December. [2] The credit appears within 60 days after it is earned. [2]
How do you redeem Wells Fargo Rewards points?
The card earns Wells Fargo Rewards® points [2], and Wells Fargo says a Rewards account is created automatically when an eligible rewards-based Wells Fargo credit card is opened [4]. Redemption options published by Wells Fargo include the following. [4]
- A statement credit to an eligible Wells Fargo credit card or checking account; rewards redeemed as a credit to a qualified Wells Fargo credit product are applied toward the principal balance, and the regular required payments still have to be made. [4]
- Redeem for Purchases, which covers an eligible past transaction with a statement credit when the transaction is $1 or more and there are enough rewards for the whole amount; rewards are deducted immediately, statement credits post in 5–7 business days, and all redemptions are final. [4]
- Pay with Rewards, which lets cardholders use rewards at checkout with PayPal at participating merchants, provided the sharing preference is enabled; authorized users with access to the card can view and redeem the rewards too, no rewards are earned on the portion of a purchase paid with rewards, and the transactions eligible for this feature can change at any time without notice. [4]
- Gift cards, including popular eGift cards from $10, and travel bookings covering flights, car rentals and hotel stays. [4]
Rewards customer service is reachable on 1-877-517-1358. [4]
Exceptions and limits
- The published offer is not fixed: Wells Fargo states that offers may differ from time to time and depend on the marketing channel, and that applicants must select Apply now to take advantage of the offer shown. [2]
- The airline credit is limited to one $50 credit in each 12-month period and to the first qualifying airline purchase of at least $50; a purchase below that amount does not trigger it. [2]
- Because points are calculated on net purchases, returns and credits reduce what is earned and what counts toward the introductory offer. [2]
- Bonus rates are tied to merchant category codes, so a purchase at a shop that codes itself differently will not earn a travel or restaurant rate. [2]
- Reward redemptions are final once made, and the Pay with Rewards eligibility list can change without notice. [4]
Frequently asked questions

Points can be redeemed as a credit to an eligible Wells Fargo credit card or checking account, applied toward the principal balance while regular payments continue. [4]
