Aeroplan co-brand credit cards compared
Aeroplan co-brand credit cards are Canadian credit cards that earn Aeroplan points, the currency of Air Canada's Aeroplan programme, and that carry the Aeroplan name alongside the issuing bank's brand. [2] [4] [5] Aeroplan's own account pages name TD, CIBC and American Express as the issuers whose cardholders are treated as active members. [5] This page compares the card structures the sources publish, card by card and benefit by benefit, and states plainly where a comparison cannot be made because the detail is not published. [2] [4]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- TD publishes four Aeroplan cards with annual fees of $89, $139, $149 and $599, all effective 1 September 2026 and subject to change. [2]
- American Express lists an Aeroplan Reserve card among its featured cards but publishes no fee, interest rate, earn rate, welcome bonus or benefit for it on the page checked. [4]
- Holding a primary card from any of the three issuers, or Elite Status, keeps Aeroplan points from expiring, and expiry is paused until 30 November 2026. [2] [5] [7]
- Aeroplan credit cards earn Status Qualifying Credits at a capped rate that is shared across all issuers. [6]
Who issues Aeroplan cards
Aeroplan's account-activity page lists three protected groups: a primary TD Aeroplan cardholder, an American Express Aeroplan Cardmember and a CIBC Aeroplan credit cardholder. [5] Each is named as someone whose points will not expire, which confirms that all three issuers have Aeroplan cards in the Canadian market. [5]
TD publishes a four-card family on its Canadian site: the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite, the TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum, the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege and the TD Aeroplan Visa Business. [2] American Express lists "The American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card" among its featured cards and keeps an Aeroplan Rewards Cards section in its rewards menu. [4]
Annual fees and published structures
TD's annual fees are $139 for the Visa Infinite, $89 for the Visa Platinum, $599 for the Visa Infinite Privilege and $149 for the Visa Business. [2] Purchase interest is 21.99% on the three personal cards and 14.99% on the business card, with cash-advance interest of 22.99% on all four. [2] TD states that its interest rates, fees and features are effective as of 1 September 2026 unless otherwise indicated, and are subject to change. [2] The page also gives the additional-cardholder annual fee on the Infinite as $75 and says a TD credit card account can be shared with up to three additional cardholders. [2]
Welcome conditions and everyday earning
TD's headline offers are dated promotions rather than fixed features of the cards. [2] For the Visa Infinite, the offer effective 1 September 2026 combines 10,000 bonus points after the first eligible purchase, a further 15,000 if $3,000 in net purchases is made within 90 days of account opening, and a 25,000-point anniversary bonus if the account stays open and active for 12 months and $12,000 in net purchases is made within 365 days. [2] TD summarises that as up to $1,550 in value including up to 50,000 Aeroplan points and a first-year annual fee rebate. [2] For the Visa Platinum, the offer effective 2 March 2026 pairs 10,000 points after the first purchase with 10,000 more if $1,500 is spent within 90 days, which TD values at up to $500 including the rebate. [2] TD advertises up to 100,000 points and up to $3,300 in value for the Infinite Privilege and up to 60,000 points for the Business card, but the page checked does not break those totals into earning steps. [2]
Eligibility for the TD offers is conditional. [2] An applicant must not have opened any TD-Aeroplan Visa card account — Platinum, Infinite, Infinite Privilege or Business — in the previous 12 months. [2] Bonus points may be withheld or revoked where the applicant has previously received welcome or other incentive Aeroplan points on an Aeroplan card from TD or from another issuer of the same card category type. [2] TD asks cardholders to allow up to eight weeks after each condition is met for points to be credited, and warns that closing the account or moving to another TD card may forfeit bonus points not yet awarded. [2] The first-year annual fee rebate requires the account to be in good standing, the primary cardholder to activate the card and make a first eligible purchase within three months, and any additional cardholders to be added within three months of opening. [2]
On everyday spend, TD says cardholders earn Aeroplan points on all eligible purchases and more in additional purchase categories, but the page checked does not publish points-per-dollar rates. [2] It does state that points are earned twice at more than 150 Aeroplan partner brands and more than 200 online retailers through the Aeroplan eStore, and that linking the card to a Starbucks Rewards account earns 50% more points at participating stores. [2] At programme level, Aeroplan members earn one point per dollar of base fare and carrier surcharges on eligible Air Canada flights for travel from 1 January 2026, before any Elite multiplier of up to 6x. [8] Air Canada says cardholders can earn extra points through accelerated earn rates on Air Canada purchases with an Aeroplan credit card, without publishing those card rates on the page checked, and flights booked with points or points plus cash earn nothing. [8]
Status credits, expiry and airport benefits
Aeroplan cards feed the Status Qualifying Credits system rather than granting status directly. [6] A member earns 1,000 SQC for every $5,000 spent on an Aeroplan premium card and 1,000 SQC for every $20,000 spent on an Aeroplan core card. [6] The ceiling is 25,000 SQC per member per calendar year, cumulative across all Aeroplan cards and issuers. [6] Elite thresholds are 25,000 SQC for 25K, 35,000 for 35K, 50,000 for 50K, 75,000 for 75K and 125,000 for Super Elite Status. [6] From 2027, a primary premium-card holder who requalifies for Elite Status receives a Head Start equal to 10% of the previous year's total SQC, provided the card was approved by 15 December of the previous year and Elite Status is held on the February determination date. [6]
Points protection is the one structural benefit shared across all three issuers. [5] Aeroplan points expire only after 18 months without account activity, and a single earned or redeemed point resets the clock. [5] TD states that points will not expire while the member is the primary cardholder of a TD Aeroplan card and the Aeroplan account is in good standing, [2] and Aeroplan extends the same protection to American Express Aeroplan Cardmembers, CIBC Aeroplan credit cardholders and members with Aeroplan Elite Status. [5] Expiry is paused until 30 November 2026, after which the normal policy applies to accounts without an eligible transaction. [7] [5] If points do expire, Aeroplan offers three routes back within six months: buying them back for a fee, flying Air Canada within six months, or getting an Aeroplan credit card. [5]
Airport benefits are the least documented part of the comparison. [2] TD says its Aeroplan cards include Air Canada travel perks that reduce baggage fees, but the page checked does not state a free checked-bag allowance for a named card. [2] Two items that TD counts inside the Infinite's $1,550 first-year value are quantified there: first checked bags for two people on a round-trip flight in the first year at $140, and a NEXUS application fee statement credit of up to $100 CAD for each primary and additional cardholder, paid regardless of whether the application is approved. [2]
Exceptions and limits
- Offers move. TD's figures carry effective dates of 1 September 2026 for the Infinite and Business cards and 2 March 2026 for the Platinum, and TD reserves the right to limit the number of accounts one person may open and to suspend, withdraw or modify an offer. [2]
- Scope is Canadian. TD's fees and features are stated for its Canadian cards. [2] Cards issued outside Canada and Aeroplan's airline partners are outside this comparison.
- Protection follows the primary cardholder. The points guarantee applies to the primary cardholder, and the Aeroplan account must be in good standing under the Aeroplan terms. [2]
- One shared SQC ceiling. Because the 25,000 SQC annual limit is cumulative across issuers, adding a second issuer's card does not raise it. [6]
- Head Start timing. The 10% Head Start begins in 2027; for 2026 requalification, unused 2025 rollover SQM were converted to SQC at 5 to 1, up to 200,000 SQM for a maximum of 40,000 SQC. [6]
- Point values are the issuer's estimate. TD's $0.02-per-point assumption reflects the majority of its Aeroplan cardholders redeeming for flights as of 1 September 2026, based on redemptions between 8 November 2020 and 1 September 2026, and is not a published Aeroplan redemption rate. [2]
