How to Book British Airways Club Awards

British Airways Club awards are Reward Flights in British Airways' business cabins, Club Europe and Club World, paid for with Avios plus a cash amount that covers taxes, fees and carrier charges. [1] They are searched and priced inside the same Reward Flight booking journey as any other cabin, and every seat is subject to capacity controls. [1] [2] The programme itself was renamed The British Airways Club from the British Airways Executive Club with effect from 1 April 2025. [2]

Key takeaways

  • A Reward Flight consists of Avios plus a cash amount covering taxes, fees and carrier charges, and the Avios and cash price depends on the date, destination and class of travel. [1]
  • British Airways guarantees a minimum number of reward seats on its own flights to and from London Heathrow and London Gatwick, including four in business. [1]
  • With Iberia, American Airlines and oneworld partners the cash amount for taxes, fees and carrier charges is variable rather than fixed. [1]
  • Reward bookings can be requested only by the member who holds the account or an individual nominated under the Club terms, and must be made at least 24 hours before departure. [2]

Pricing a Club award

British Airways prices Reward Flights at a fixed Avios amount plus a fixed cash amount covering taxes, fees and carrier charges, and the price you pay depends on the date, destination and class of travel. [1] The date of travel decides whether you pay the peak or the off-peak Avios amount, and a single booking can mix peak and off-peak dates across its legs. [1]

The examples British Airways publishes, stated on its page as correct as of May 2026, are 10,000 Avios plus £2.50 each way to Europe, the UK and Ireland, from 55,000 Avios plus £150 return for destinations further afield, and a business (Club World) seat from 154,000 Avios plus £350 return. [1]

If the Avios balance is short, British Airways lets you reduce the Avios cost by paying more cash: at checkout you are shown a range of Avios & Money options where available, and the fewer Avios you use the more cash you pay. [1] [2] The airline also lists buying Avios, asking a friend or family member to share Avios, and pooling Avios with other members of your household as ways to reach the balance. [1]

Partners, transfers and carrier charges

Reward Flights can also be taken with Iberia, American Airlines and oneworld partners, and the difference is that the cash amount covering taxes, fees and carrier charges is variable rather than fixed. [1] The number of Avios needed for partner flights may differ from British Airways depending on the route and distance travelled. [1] For itineraries using two or more oneworld partners, or British Airways plus two or more oneworld partners, British Airways points members to a separate published reference for what to pay. [1] That variability is why carrier-imposed surcharges matter more on partner tickets than on British Airways metal.

Avios can be moved between a British Airways Club account and an Iberia Club, AerClub, Loganair Loyalty, Vueling Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club or Finnair Plus account, and the value of the Avios stays the same after transfer. [3] Transfers in those pairings happen immediately and the airline says you can transfer as often as you like. [3] A comparison of how these schemes sit alongside each other is in Avios programmes compared. Note that reward travel on a partner is governed by that airline's own terms and conditions. [2]

Booking, changing and cancelling

Reward bookings must be made no less than 24 hours before the intended day of departure, and the reward ticket is issued at the same time as the booking is made. [2] On return journeys the outbound and return flights must be booked together, and open tickets cannot be issued as rewards. [2] A one-way award is however available on British Airways flights at 50% of the Avios required for a return journey to the same destination. [2] Infants under two travelling without their own seat pay 10% of the Avios required for the member's flight reward, while children aged two or over and infants needing their own seat are charged the full Avios for the destination. [2] Stopovers are not charged where the stopover connects a domestic flight onto a long-haul destination, but charges apply where it connects a domestic flight onto a short-haul destination. [2]

In most circumstances Reward Flights can be cancelled or changed subject to availability for a small service fee, and a cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before the first flight in the itinerary to be eligible for a refund. [1] Moving from an off-peak to a peak date may require additional Avios; moving from a peak to an off-peak date means any difference in Avios is refunded, although for Avios part payment bookings the difference in the money portion is not refunded. [1] Many changes to simple Reward Flights can be made online in Manage My Booking, but the contact centre is needed to change an off-peak date to a peak date, to change a peak date to an off-peak date when an immediate Avios refund is wanted, and for bookings made with any type of voucher, containing a connecting flight, or upgraded using Avios. [1]

Exceptions and limits

  • Avios-only flights. Some British Airways and Euro Flyer flights are sold exclusively as Reward Flights for direct journeys to Club members, and an Avios-only flight cannot be combined with a commercial flight on the same booking. [1] These tickets include one checked bag at 23kg and can be cancelled up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund minus a £35 service fee. [1] British Airways states that for bookings cancelled within 24 hours of outbound departure the taxes, fees and charges are refunded to the original form of payment, but that for Avios & Money bookings the cash portion is not refunded and Avios are not refunded. [1]
  • Vouchers on Avios-only flights. A companion voucher means paying the Avios for one person and the taxes, fees and charges for both, or, travelling solo, half the Avios for one person plus taxes, fees and charges for one. [1] Barclays upgrade vouchers and Gold upgrade for one/two vouchers can be used to move between cabins, availability depending, at the same upgrade price as a standard Reward Flight. [1]
  • Household accounts. A household account can hold up to seven members, including a maximum of six people under 18, and lets them redeem all or part of their Avios for rewards for any one person in the household. [2] Household account members also have a family and friends list of up to five nominated individuals they can redeem Avios on behalf of. [2]
  • No tier points. Extra tier points cannot be earned on Reward Flights, nor on upgrades using Avios. [2]
  • Who may book. Reward bookings can only be requested by the member holding the account or an individual nominated under the Club terms. [2]
  • Not published.
