How to buy Avios with Qatar Airways Privilege Club
Buying Avios means paying Qatar Airways to add Avios to a Privilege Club account. Privilege Club sells Avios online in blocks of 1,000, up to 250,000 Avios per calendar year across buying, gifting and transferring, and the price depends on how many Avios are bought in one transaction. [2]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Qatar Airways Privilege Club sells Avios only online, through the Buy, Gift, Transfer Avios page inside a logged-in account; its ticketing offices and contact centres no longer process these services. [2]
- Purchases run in blocks of 1,000 Avios, are posted within 72 hours, cannot be refunded, and do not count toward Privilege Club status qualification. [2]
- Boosting is a separate paid option that multiplies Avios already collected by up to six times, capped at 250,000 boosted Avios in a calendar year. [2]
Where can you buy Avios directly?
The Avios sold here come from Qatar Airways Privilege Club, which sells them through its own website rather than through staffed channels. A member logs in at qatarairways.com/privilegeclub and opens the “Buy, Gift, Transfer Avios” page, and Qatar Airways states that it will no longer process these services through its ticketing offices and contact centres. [2] To be able to buy, a member must have earned a minimum of 1 Avios since enrolling. [2] Full programme mechanics sit on the Qatar Airways Privilege Club page.
Avios is the reward currency Qatar Airways says members collect when they, or their nominated family members, travel with Qatar Airways, oneworld airlines or airline partners. [7] Gifting and transferring sit on the same page and draw on the same annual allowance as buying. [2]
Moving Avios between a Privilege Club account and a linked British Airways Executive Club account is movement, not a purchase: linked members move Avios in either direction at a 1:1 rate, free of charge, with the Avios credited immediately. [4] The British Airways Club page covers that side of the relationship.
How is a Privilege Club purchase priced?
The price depends on the number of Avios bought in a transaction, and that price includes all applicable fees. [2] Privilege Club frames the buy option as savings for members who purchase all the Avios they need in one go, which it describes as paying less. [2] Qatar Airways reserves the right to change the pricing and terms of the Buy, Gift and Transfer option at any time. [2]
| Rule | What applies |

| Price | Set by transaction size; includes all applicable fees [2] |
| Annual cap | 250,000 Avios per calendar year for buying, gifting and transferring combined [2] |
| Posting time | Within 72 hours [2] |
| Refundable | No [2] |
| Status qualification | Does not count toward any increased or improved status [2] |
Avios do not have a fixed or par value and cannot be redeemed for cash, so a purchase cannot be reversed by selling the Avios back. [4] Members who are weighing a purchase against other ways of topping up a balance can compare options on Avios programmes compared.
What is Avios boosting, and how is it different from buying?
Boosting multiplies Avios a member has already collected rather than creating new ones. Avios earned on Qatar Airways operated and marketed flights, and on partner activity, in the previous 90 days can be boosted by up to six times for a fee that Qatar Airways sets at the time of the request. [2] Avios collected after paying with a co-branded credit card or a linked payment card can also be boosted. [2]
Access to boosting is conditional. A member needs at least 500 Avios earned collectively from eligible transactions, each eligible transaction can be boosted only once, and no more than 250,000 Avios can be boosted in any one calendar year. [2] Avios balance transfers from other airlines, bonus Avios, Avios transferred or gifted by other members, and previously bought Avios are all excluded from boosting. [2] Boosted Avios are not refundable. [2] Bonus Avios have their own rules, summarised under promotional miles.
What to check before buying Avios for an award
Award seats are subject to availability, and Privilege Club advises members to hold sufficient Avios before requesting an award ticket; where the balance falls short, it points members to buying Avios. [6] When an award ticket is requested, the Avios required are blocked from the account and are refunded if the request cannot be processed. [6] The steps for matching a purchase to a specific trip are set out in buying miles for a specific trip.
Cash charges sit alongside the Avios. On Qatar Airways award bookings, taxes and carrier-imposed fees start from USD 30 and may vary with travel dates and exchange rates. [5] Award flights to or from London in First Class are not available on A380 aircraft. [5]
The Avios Plus Cash option lets members part-pay award tickets on flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways and on flights operated by partner airlines; it does not apply to upgrades, and Privilege Club may change the Avios or cash values, or withdraw the option, at any time. [6] Privilege Club also states that a balance stays valid for a further 36 months each time a member earns or spends Avios. [7]
Members who also hold a British Airways Executive Club account and link it can redeem from either or both accounts without moving Avios first, deducting either in proportion to each balance, Privilege Club first, or British Airways first. [4]
Exceptions and limits
- The 250,000-Avios annual allowance covers buying, gifting and transferring together, so Avios gifted to someone else reduce what remains available to buy in the same calendar year. [2]
- Purchased or transferred Avios are not refundable, and neither are boosted Avios. [2]
- Purchasing requires at least 1 Avios earned since enrolment, so an account that has never earned any Avios cannot top up first. [2]
- Qatar Airways reserves the right to amend the booster terms, including the maximum annual amounts that can be boosted. [2]
- Only one Privilege Club account and one British Airways Executive Club account can be linked at a time, linking becomes available 30 days after account creation, and a Privilege Club account can be linked to a British Airways account a maximum of twice in any 50-year period. [4]
- Changes and refunds on award tickets paid from linked accounts are handled offline, and any Avios refunded are credited to the Privilege Club account. [4]
