How to buy Hilton Honors Points: price, caps and bonuses
Buying Hilton Honors Points is the Hilton Honors option that lets a member add Points to their own balance for cash, and Hilton presents it as a way to reach a reward stay faster. [4] A Points purchase also counts as one of the qualifying actions that keep the Points already in an account from being forfeited for inactivity. [3]

Key takeaways
- Buy Points sits in the Hilton Honors Points menu next to Pool Points, Gift Points, Transfer Points and Convert Points, and Hilton describes it as a way to up your Points balance. [4]
- Purchasing Hilton Honors Points is one of four actions the programme terms accept for keeping accumulated Points within a 24-consecutive-month period. [3]
- Price a purchase against a specific all-Points Standard Room Reward Stay, because a Standard Room is defined by each hotel and is subject to availability. [3]
- On an all-Points Standard Room Reward Stay of five or more consecutive nights, every fifth night is free, with no more than four free nights per Stay. [3]
What is the Hilton Honors Buy Points option?
Hilton Honors lists Buy Points among the tools that unlock more with your Points, alongside Pool Points, Gift Points, Transfer Points and Convert Points. [4] Hilton's own description is that you can up your Points balance when you buy Points and get to your next reward stay faster. [4] The programme itself is run by Hilton Honors Worldwide, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hilton Domestic Operating Company Inc. [3]
The terms that govern the programme became effective on 15 July 2026 and supersede all prior terms and conditions. [3] Members who regularly reside in Chinese Mainland and hold citizenship of the People's Republic of China are covered by a separate section of those terms. [3] Members who hold Points in more than one account should note that Hilton does not permit membership in or Point earning on multiple accounts, and may cancel or merge duplicates into a single account with one number, one elite tier status and one Points balance. [3]
How do you buy Hilton Honors Points?
Buying starts inside your own Hilton Honors account, from the Points area of the Hilton Honors site where the Points tools are grouped. [4] Membership is free to join, and Hilton says Points can be earned from the moment you sign up. [4] Enrolment is limited to individuals of majority age in their country, territory or state of residence, and corporations, associations and groups cannot enrol. [3]
Because a purchase adds to a balance you already hold, the programme's transfer rules are part of the picture: except as specifically provided in the terms, accrued Points, reward certificates and confirmations are not transferable for any reason or by operation of law. [3] Pooling, Points transfer and a Mutual Fund arrangement are dealt with separately, and Points accrued by Mutual Fund members may be used by either spouse listed on the account. [3] Accrued Points and reward confirmations do not constitute property of the member. [3]
Hilton also lists other uses for a balance beyond hotel nights, including experiences, Lyft rides, shopping with Points on Amazon.com and car rentals with Alamo, National and Enterprise. [4]
How do you price a purchase against a Hilton award stay?
Start with the award price of the room you actually want. A Standard Room is defined by each hotel and is subject to availability at participating hotels within the Hilton portfolio, [3] so the Standard Room Reward figure to compare is the one showing for that hotel on those dates, not a general idea of what a Point is worth.
Next, check whether the stay is long enough to use the fifth night free benefit, which changes the effective cost of the nights you occupy. [3] The main conditions are set out below.
| Question | What the Hilton Honors terms say |
|---|---|
| Which stays qualify | Standard Room Reward Stays using all Points, five or more consecutive nights at the same property, confirmed at the time of booking [3] |
| Which nights are free | The 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th nights of the Stay, as applicable [3] |
| Cap | No more than four free nights per Stay, on Stays of up to twenty nights [3] |
| What is excluded | Paid stays, Points & Money Rewards, and Stays booked as part of a Reward Stay offer, package or promotion [3] |
| If the plan changes | If the free night is declined, the reservation is cancelled, or check-out happens before the fifth night, the free night is forfeited [3] |
| Any cash or Points value? | None; all other nights are charged at the applicable full Standard Room Reward price [3] |
On the cash side, Hilton states that unless otherwise stated, quoted rates are per room per night and do not include taxes, gratuities, incidental charges and resort fees where applicable. [3] A quoted cash rate is therefore not the full cash cost of the same stay, and the comparison only holds when both sides are measured for the same nights and the same room type.
Hilton also sells stays as Points & Money Rewards, and says free nights can be booked with any combination of Points and money, with no blackout dates. [4] That is a different product from an all-Points Standard Room Reward Stay, and the fifth night free benefit does not apply to Points & Money Rewards. [3]
Does buying Points keep a Hilton Honors balance active?
Yes. Members who have no eligible activity in any 24 consecutive month period are subject to forfeiture of all accumulated Points and may be removed from the programme. [3] The terms accept four actions within that window: staying at a participating hotel, earning Points through Hilton or a third party source such as a Hilton co-branded credit card, purchasing Hilton Honors Points, or donating Points through the Hilton Honors Giving Back Program. [3]
A Reward redeemed before forfeiture, such as a hotel reservation booked or a car rental voucher obtained, remains valid. [3] Hilton may also allow a member to stay in the programme after a period of inactivity and remove them after five years at its discretion, and once Points are forfeited the member cannot retrieve them. [3]
Exceptions and limits
- Rules can change. Hilton reserves the right to add, modify, delete or otherwise change rules, procedures, conditions, benefits and Rewards at its sole discretion, with or without notice, even where changes affect the value of Points already accumulated. [3]
- Programme termination. Hilton Honors has no predetermined termination date, and if the programme is terminated, members have twelve months from the announcement to accumulate Points and redeem a Reward. [3]
- Room type matters. The fifth night free benefit applies to Standard Room Reward Stays only, and what counts as a Standard Room is set by each hotel. [3]
- Regional terms. Members who regularly reside in Chinese Mainland with People's Republic of China citizenship are subject to their own section of the programme terms, which sits alongside the general terms. [3]
- One account per member. Points must not be earned across multiple accounts, and Hilton may merge or cancel duplicate accounts at its discretion. [3]
