How to use credit card concierge services

Credit card concierge services are the travel-planning, dining and event-ticket help attached to a premium credit card. On the three U.S. cards covered here the help appears under product names — Platinum Travel Service from American Express, Reserve Travel Designers from Chase and Capital One Entertainment from Capital One — and what each will do, whether you must enrol first and what it costs depend on the issuer. Key takeaways

  • Two of the three cards name a staffed travel-planning desk — Platinum Travel Service and Reserve Travel Designers — while all three pair booking platforms with dining or event access. [1] [2] [3]
  • Chase says no travel agency fees are assessed for reservations made through Reserve Travel Designers, but supplier fees such as extra baggage and resort fees may still apply. [2]
  • Much of the dining and ticket access is gated by enrolment: American Express requires the card to be added to a Resy profile, and Chase requires the card to be added to OpenTable with an eligibility check. [1] [2]
  • Annual fees published on the issuer pages are $895 for the American Express Platinum Basic Card, $795 for Chase Sapphire Reserve and $395 for Capital One Venture X. [1] [2] [3]

Which cards include a concierge-style service?

American Express lists Platinum Travel Service among the Platinum Card's travel benefits, describing its consultants as providing custom itineraries and tailored recommendations. [1] The same page lists a 24/7 Member Services team that handles anything from lost-card replacement to statement questions, and Premium Global Assist Hotline for emergency coordination while you are away from home. [1]

Chase describes Reserve Travel Designers as a personalised service for building and booking a custom itinerary, valued at up to $300 per trip, and gives Sapphire Reserve cardmembers a dedicated customer service team available seven days a week. [2] Capital One's Venture X page leads with booking tools on Capital One Travel plus Capital One Entertainment, where cardholders can reach events across music, sports and dining with pre-sales and tickets. What can you ask a card travel desk to do?

Itineraries and hotel bookings. American Express Travel takes bookings at Fine Hotels + Resorts, with over 1,800 properties, and at The Hotel Collection, with over 1,300 hotels and a minimum two-night stay; those bookings carry benefits such as a $100 credit towards eligible charges, daily breakfast for two on Fine Hotels + Resorts stays and guaranteed 4pm check-out. [1] The American Express app is also presented as a place for restaurant recommendations, trip itineraries and hotel bookings. [1] On the Chase side, purchases through Chase Travel earn 8 points per dollar, and travel booked with the Reserve Travel Designers earns 8 points only where it is booked directly through Chase Travel. [2] Capital One Travel pays 10X miles on hotels and rental cars and 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through that portal. [3]

Help when a trip goes wrong. Premium Global Assist Hotline is available 24/7 whenever you travel more than 100 miles from home, for emergency assistance and coordination including medical, legal and financial referrals; emergency medical transportation assistance may be provided at no cost only if it is approved and coordinated by the hotline, and card members may be responsible for costs charged by third-party providers. [1] Chase's travel and emergency assistance benefit provides legal and medical referrals and access to other assistance services, with the cardholder responsible for the cost of any goods or services obtained. [2]

How do dining and event requests work?

Restaurants. Global Dining Access by Resy gives Platinum Card members special access to sought-after U.S. Resy restaurants once the card is added to a Resy profile, covering exclusive reservations, premium dining experiences and Priority Notify through Resy.com or the Resy app. [1] Platinum Nights by Resy offers sought-after reservations at participating top Resy restaurants on select nights in select cities. [1] Chase runs Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables on OpenTable, giving exclusive access to primetime reservations and special events at participating restaurants in select cities through 30 June 2030, along with up to $150 in statement credits from January to June and $150 from July to December, a maximum of $300 a year. [2]

Tickets and experiences. Premium Events Collection is a set of curated events, from sporting and fashion to fine dining, art and performances, for Platinum Card members. [1] Amex Presale Tickets and Amex Reserved Tickets open select sports and music events, while supplies last, and not all seats may be offered. [1] American Express Venue Collection adds dedicated entrances or fast lanes at select stadiums and arenas, plus 10% back on qualifying concessions purchases up to $250 per calendar year. [1] Chase offers special ticket packages and private experiences with artists and talent, plus perks at major events across travel, dining, music, film and entertainment, and arts. [2] On the Venture X, tickets bought on the Capital One Entertainment ticketing platform earn 5 miles per dollar; tickets bought through cardholder exclusive pre-sales, or directly through Capital One Hall or Capital One Arena ticketing, are excluded. [3]

What do the services cost?

Chase states that no travel agency fees are assessed for reservations made through Reserve Travel Designers, although fees charged by travel suppliers, such as extra baggage fees and resort fees, may still apply. [2] Capital One says some benefits may require enrolment and/or online access, that benefits may differ by card role type and may require additional fees, and that prices and benefits are subject to change. [3] American Express notes that card members may be responsible for costs charged by third-party providers used through Premium Global Assist. [1] The card annual fee itself is separate from any request: $895 for the Platinum Basic Card with $195 for each Additional Platinum Card and no fee for Companion Platinum Cards, $795 for Sapphire Reserve with $195 per authorized user, and $395 for Venture X. [1] [2] [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Platinum dining access depends on adding the card to a Resy profile, and presale tickets are offered while supplies last with not every seat released. [1]
  • American Express Venue Collection concessions credit is limited to one enrolled card per Card Member. [1]
  • Premium Global Assist Hotline applies when you travel more than 100 miles from home, and emergency medical transportation is provided at no cost only when approved and coordinated by the hotline. [1]
  • Chase says access to Reserve Travel Designers is subject to eligibility and terms that may change at any time, and that participation is an exclusive benefit whose eligibility may not be transferred or assigned. [2]
  • Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables inventory that is not booked before the reservation day and time may be released to general OpenTable inventory; some restaurants may require card details and/or prepayment, in which case the eligible card stored in OpenTable must be used, and new cardmembers should allow up to four business days after account opening. [2]
  • Capital One reclaims rewards on an Entertainment purchase that is cancelled or returned, requires the account to be open and in good standing to earn, and limits the offer to consumer, non-commercial use. [3]
