Key takeaways

  • The card costs $795 a year, and $195 for each authorized user, and the published new-cardmember offer is 100,000 points after $6,000 in purchases in the first three months from account opening. [1]
  • It earns 8 points per $1 through Chase Travel, 4 points per $1 on flights and hotels booked direct, 3 points per $1 on dining worldwide and 1 point per $1 on everything else. [1]
  • Recurring benefits include a $300 annual travel credit, a $300 annual dining credit and up to $500 a year in credits for prepaid stays booked through The Edit. [1]
  • Lounge access covers Chase Sapphire Lounges by The Club and more than 1,300 Priority Pass lounges, with up to two guests. [1]
  • Points do not expire while the account stays open, but Chase removes all points immediately if the account status changes or the account is closed for programme misuse or fraudulent activity. [1]

How does Chase Sapphire Reserve earn Ultimate Rewards points?

The card pays its highest rate on bookings made through Chase Travel, and lower rates for travel bought directly from airlines and hotels. [1] Chase lists the card among its most popular travel cards with 8x points on Chase Travel purchases and a $795 annual fee. [6]

The top rate covers every purchase made through Chase Travel, but travel booked through FROSCH by Chase Travel, Valerie Wilson Travel by Chase Travel or Frosch International Travel LLC earns 4 points only when the booking is made directly with the airline or hotel. [1] Purchases that qualify for the $300 annual travel credit or the $500 credit for stays with The Edit do not earn points. [1] Balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions, person-to-person money transfers, interest, fees and fraudulent charges earn nothing, and returns and refunds are subtracted from points earned. [1]

Chase says qualifying new cardmembers receive 100,000 points after $6,000 in purchases in the first three months, and asks cardmembers to allow six to eight weeks after qualifying for the bonus to post. [1]

Cardmembers who spend $75,000 in a calendar year unlock a second tier of benefits: World of Hyatt Explorist status, IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite status, a $250 credit for The Shops at Chase, a $500 Southwest Airlines Chase Travel credit and Southwest Airlines A-List status. [1] Those benefits last for the rest of the year in which they are earned and through the following calendar year. [1]

How can you use Chase Sapphire Reserve points?

Points can be redeemed for cash, gift cards, travel or pay with points, and the value obtained varies by redemption option. [1] Through Chase Travel, points are worth $0.01 each under the Ultimate Rewards Agreement, and Points Boost promotions can lift that to as much as 2 cents per point on select flights and hotels for this card. [1] Points can also be transferred to airline and hotel loyalty programmes, which is the main reason points collectors look at this card. [1]

Chase says Chase Travel bookings come with no blackout dates or travel restrictions: as long as there is a seat on the flight or a room at the hotel, it can be booked through Chase Travel. [1] Points do not expire as long as the account remains open. [1]

Which airport lounges does Chase Sapphire Reserve include?

The card provides complimentary access to Chase Sapphire Lounges by The Club and to more than 1,300 Priority Pass airport lounges worldwide, with up to two guests. [1] Priority Pass Select membership is activated automatically for the primary cardmember and for authorized users, each of whom may bring a maximum of two guests; any additional guest is charged $27 per guest, per visit, to the card after the visits are reported to Priority Pass. [1]

Entry requires a valid physical credit card or a Priority Pass digital membership card, and a credit card held in a digital wallet is not accepted at the lounge door. [1] Access may be denied when a lounge is at capacity, and the lounges are owned and operated by independent third parties, so participation and facilities can change. [1] The account must be open and not in default to keep the membership. [1] Cardmembers also get access to select Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafés in the United States, Canada and Europe with an eligible boarding pass. [1]

What travel and purchase protections does the card include?

Selected protections, as of 18 October 2026 [1]

Emergency medical and dentalUp to $2,500, subject to a $50 deductible, for illness or injury 100 miles or more from home [1]

The card also carries travel accident insurance of up to $1,000,000, emergency evacuation and transportation cover of up to $100,000, and roadside assistance of up to $50 per incident, four times a year. [1] On the shopping side, purchase protection covers eligible new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft up to $10,000 per item, return protection reimburses eligible items a store will not accept within 90 days up to $500 per item and $1,000 per 12-month period, and extended warranty adds one year to U.S. manufacturer warranties of three years or less, up to four years from the purchase date. [1]

Chase states that restrictions, limitations and exclusions apply, that most of these benefits are administered by unaffiliated companies responsible for claims, and that full terms sit in the Guide to Benefits provided after account opening. [1] New York residents face specific limits: auto rental coverage inside the United States is secondary to personal automobile insurance, lost luggage reimbursement is capped at $2,000 per bag and $10,000 for all covered travellers per trip, and purchase protection runs for 90 days. [1] The card charges no foreign transaction fees. [1]

What are the limits and conditions?

  • Statement credits require the account to be open and not in default at the time of fulfilment, and Chase may reverse a credit if the qualifying purchase is returned, cancelled or modified, or if the account is closed within 90 days of the credit. [1]
  • Credit periods end at 11:59 PM ET on the last day of the period, and processing delays can push a purchase made in one period into the next one. [1] The travel credit is applied to the year in which the transaction posts, so a purchase that posts after the annual period closes counts against the following year's $300. [1]
  • The dining credit applies only at select restaurants that Chase can identify as direct purchases; merchandise, gift cards and purchases through third-party payment processors or delivery platforms do not qualify, and the restaurant list can change. [1]
  • The Edit credit requires prepaid "Pay Now" stays of two nights or more, and The Edit benefits are per room, based on double occupancy, subject to availability at check-in, not combinable with other offers and not redeemable for cash. [1]
  • IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status needs activation by linking an IHG account, can take up to three weeks to appear, is not granted retroactively, and requires the card account and the IHG account to stay in good standing; IHG may change the benefits. [1]
  • The card is unavailable to applicants who already have it open, the new-cardmember bonus may not be available to anyone who previously held the card or received its bonus, and Chase may consider how many cards an applicant has opened and closed when deciding bonus eligibility. [1]
  • Chase lists the Chase Sapphire Preferred card alongside it at a $95 annual fee, with 75,000 bonus points after $5,000 in purchases in the first three months. [1] [3]
