How to upgrade Etihad flights with Etihad Guest miles

How do you find upgrade space and request the upgrade?
An upgrade clears only when seats are open on the flight in booking class I or O, so the request depends on space in those two classes rather than on the cabin you want being empty. Miles can also be spent on an upgrade at the airport, subject to operational resources and a cut-off three hours before flight closure, and solely at the discretion of the Etihad Airways duty manager; the facility can be withdrawn when operations do not allow it.
