How to use Flying Blue Promo Rewards: monthly award discounts

Flying Blue Promo Rewards are temporary offers that let a member book an Air France, KLM or partner reward ticket for a reduced number of Miles, and the set of offers changes from one month to the next. [4] [5]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Promo Rewards are a discount on a reward ticket rather than a separate currency: KLM describes them as the way to “get a discount on your reward ticket”, and says the offers vary monthly. [4]
  • The current month’s offers are published on the Flying Blue website and in programme emails to members who have opted in to receive them. [4]
  • In the programme terms, these offers fall under a broad “Promotional Offer” definition covering extra XP or Miles as well as rewards obtained for a reduced number of Miles, and a member may be offered them according to their account activity. [5]
  • Miles do not pay the taxes and carrier charges on a reward ticket; those are paid separately at the time of booking. [4]

What counts as a Promo Reward

Air France’s Flying Blue pages name “billets primes Promo” — promo reward tickets — among the ways a member can use Miles, next to flights, upgrades and other paid options. [2] KLM’s spending-Miles page puts it more plainly: promo rewards are the route to a discount on a reward ticket. [4]

The general terms describe discounts of this kind through a wider category. A “Promotional Offer” is a special temporary offer that lets a member gain extra XP and/or Miles, or obtain airline rewards and/or other rewards against a reduced number of Miles. [5] A cheaper monthly award therefore sits in the same category as a bonus-earning campaign, and the clauses below apply to the category as a whole. [5]

Normal, non-promotional award pricing is not described on this page; the standard redemption route is covered in how to book Flying Blue awards. [5]

The monthly cycle

KLM directs members to the current month’s promo rewards on the Flying Blue website, and to the emails the programme sends to members who have opted in. [4] The offers vary monthly, and a promotional offer is temporary by definition. [4] [5]

Offers can be aimed at particular members. Flying Blue and its partners reserve the right to make promotional offers available to groups of members based on programme activity, including flight activity, hotel stays and car rentals. [5] The terms state that right without describing how the groups are chosen or how a member is told which group they are in. [5]

Offers do not stack. Promotional offers are not valid in combination with other promotional offers, and where more than one could apply, the one that ultimately benefits the member most is the one applied. [5] When a reward request is processed, the Miles are debited according to the scale in force on the application date, not the date of travel. [5]

Checking availability and paying

Availability is the first practical limit. Flying Blue and its partners may restrict the number of available rewards unilaterally and cannot guarantee that rewards will be available, so a member may find no availability on a given flight or that a particular reward is not available. [5] All rewards and benefits are subject to change and availability, including blackout dates listed in Flying Blue communications, and local restrictions or amendments may apply. [5]

Airline rewards must be taken on routes operated by Air France, KLM and airline partners, and may be limited to selected Air France or KLM code-share flights. [5] A reward ticket is non-endorsable and cannot be used on an airline other than the one whose code appears on the ticket, unless that airline decides otherwise. [5]

Taxes and carrier charges on a reward ticket cannot be paid with Miles. KLM says they are paid separately at the time of booking, [4] and the terms place taxes, sale and after-sale fees, levies and surcharges — including carrier surcharges where they apply — on the member or the reward beneficiary. [5] In the other direction, KLM says up to 25% of a reward ticket can be paid with cash. [4]

The terms do say that airline rewards in the Air France first class cabin are reserved for selected member levels. [5] Reward tickets are valid for 12 months from the date of issue, with some exceptions such as special promotional offers or tickets offered exclusively in specific regions. [5] No Miles or XP are earned on reward tickets. [2] [5]

Limits, exceptions and open questions

  • Cancellation. The usual reward-ticket route — cancelling in full before the first flight departs, or cancelling only the unused future flights once travel has begun — does not apply to no-shows and promotional offers. [5]
  • Dead rewards. Lost, stolen or expired rewards are not refunded, replaced or extended, and a change of beneficiary is not possible on a reward. [5] There is a stated exception for expired reward tickets: if a Reward Ticket has not been used and has expired, the member or beneficiary has a right to reimbursement of taxes and airport charges, and the refund request can be made by contacting Flying Blue Customer Service. [5]
  • One category, shared rules. Because the definition covers bonus-earning offers and reduced-Miles rewards alike, a discounted award cannot be combined with another promotional offer, and the most favourable offer is the one applied. [5]
  • The terms reserve the right to restrict availability and to apply local restrictions. [5]
  • Scope. Everything above concerns Flying Blue, the programme of Air France, KLM and Transavia; no other programme’s promotional awards are described here. [3]
