How to qualify for Hilton Honors Lifetime Diamond

Hilton Honors Lifetime Diamond Elite Tier Status is a permanent Diamond Elite tier that Hilton Honors awards to members who have held Diamond Elite Tier Status for at least ten non-consecutive years and who have either completed 1,000 paid or Reward nights or accumulated US$200,000 of Eligible Spend over the life of their membership. [2]

Key takeaways

  • Lifetime Diamond Elite Tier Status needs two things together: at least ten years at Diamond Elite Tier Status, which do not have to run consecutively, and either 1,000 paid or Reward nights or US$200,000 of Eligible Spend across the life of the membership. [2]
  • A year counts only after 365 days at Diamond have been completed, so status reached partway through a year is credited later than the calendar year suggests. [2]
  • Hilton grants the tier at its own discretion and may end or amend it with or without notice or compensation. [2]

What are the published Lifetime Diamond requirements?

Hilton sets Lifetime Diamond out as a two-part test, and a member needs both parts: the time held at Diamond Elite Tier Status and one of the two volume thresholds. [2]

The terms award Lifetime Diamond Elite Tier Status to eligible members who have achieved Diamond Elite Tier Status for at least ten years, which need not be consecutive, and who have either completed Stays totalling at least 1,000 paid or Reward nights or accumulated at least US$200,000 of Eligible Spend over the lifetime of their membership in the programme. These rules sit in the Hilton Honors Terms & Conditions, which carry an effective date of 15 July 2026 and supersede earlier versions. [2]

How is each Diamond year counted?

A year of Diamond is measured in days held, not in calendar years of membership: a member must complete 365 days at Diamond Elite Tier Status for it to count as a fully completed year towards Lifetime Diamond. [2]

Hilton's own illustration is a member who reaches Diamond Elite Tier Status on 1 November 2026 — the completed year at Diamond does not occur until 1 November 2027. [2] Status held through a future expiry date works the same way: if Diamond runs to a date such as 31 March 2026, that period counts towards Lifetime Diamond only once it has been completed. [2]

Diamond Elite Tier Status itself is earned each year with 25 Stays, 50 nights or US$11,500 of Eligible Spend in a calendar year, and once earned it is kept for the remainder of that calendar year and the following calendar year. [2] In the terms, a calendar year runs from 1 January to 31 December. [2] How the annual tiers compare is covered in hotel status qualification.

What counts toward the 1,000 nights and the Eligible Spend total?

Nights. The nights route counts paid nights and Reward nights on the same footing. [2] Reward Stays count towards the Stays and nights totals used for Elite Tier Status qualification, and only one room per Stay earns Stay and night credit for that purpose. [2] Stays that the terms list as ineligible — third-party website bookings, opaque channels where the brand is unknown at purchase, and wholesale or tour-operator packages among them — do not count. [2]

Eligible Spend. Eligible Spend means room rate, eligible food and beverage, telephone, laundry, pay-per-view movies, entertainment and recreational facilities, and other incidental charges billed to the member's room during a qualifying Stay, and the member must be the guest of record. [2] Taxes, including city occupancy tax, are excluded. [2]

Points. A large Points balance does not move either threshold, because Hilton Honors Points earned do not count toward Elite Tier Status qualification. [2] Points are collected from hotel stays, promotions, credit cards, Lyft rides and dining, and are used for free nights, experiences, shopping, rideshare and rental cars. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Discretion. Lifetime Diamond Elite Tier Status is granted at the discretion of Hilton Honors and may be ended or amended, with or without notice or compensation. [2]
  • Extension is a different provision. Hilton publishes a one-time Diamond Elite Tier Status Extension for members who fail to requalify. For status set to expire on 31 March 2026, the member needs three total years at Diamond, consecutive or not, and either 250 nights or 500,000 earned Base Points since joining; for expiries of 31 March 2027 and beyond, the alternatives are 250 nights or US$50,000 or more of Eligible Spend since joining. [2] These are separate requirements from the Lifetime Diamond criteria. [2]
  • Which tier is awarded. Lifetime Diamond is Diamond Elite Tier Status; Diamond Reserve Elite Tier Status is a distinct annual tier, earned with 40 Stays and US$18,000 of Eligible Spend, or 80 nights and US$18,000 of Eligible Spend, in a calendar year. [2]
  • Programme-specific rules. Lifetime status is defined by each programme: Qantas Frequent Flyer, for example, sets its lifetime tiers at Status Credit totals of 7,000 for Lifetime Silver, 14,000 for Lifetime Gold and 75,000 for Lifetime Platinum. [5]

Frequently asked questions

How many years of Diamond status do I need for Hilton Honors Lifetime Diamond?

Ten years at Diamond Elite Tier Status, and they do not have to be consecutive. Each of those years must contain 365 completed days at Diamond before it counts. [2]

Do reward nights count toward the 1,000-night requirement?

Yes. The published criteria refer to 1,000 paid or Reward nights, and Reward Stays count towards the Stays and nights used for Elite Tier Status qualification. [2]

Can I reach Lifetime Diamond through spending instead of nights?

Yes. The alternative route is at least US$200,000 of Eligible Spend over the lifetime of the membership, which excludes taxes and anything outside the Eligible Spend definition. [2]

Is Lifetime Diamond the same as the Diamond status extension?

No. The extension is a one-time provision with its own night, spend or Base Point tests, while Lifetime Diamond is awarded on the ten-year plus 1,000-night or US$200,000 basis. [2]

Can Hilton withdraw Lifetime Diamond once it is awarded?

The terms state that the tier is granted at Hilton Honors' discretion and may be ended or amended with or without notice or compensation. [2]
