How to earn Hilton Honors elite status

Hilton Honors elite status is the tier ladder of Hilton's hotel loyalty programme: members move from base membership to Silver, Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve by recording enough Stays, nights or Eligible Spend within a calendar year. [3] [5] Each tier adds a bonus on Base Points and on-property benefits, and Diamond Reserve adds an annual spend threshold on top of a Stay or night requirement. [3]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Hilton Honors has four elite tiers above base membership — Silver, Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve — and each is earned on Stays, nights or Eligible Spend within a calendar year. [3]
  • The published thresholds are 4 Stays, 10 nights or US$2,500 for Silver; 15 Stays, 25 nights or US$6,000 for Gold; 25 Stays, 50 nights or US$11,500 for Diamond; and 40 Stays or 80 nights plus US$18,000 for Diamond Reserve. [3]
  • Hilton Honors Points, whether base or bonus, do not count toward Elite Tier Status. [3]
  • Salaried benefits rise by tier: Base Point bonuses of 20%, 80%, 100% and 120% respectively, space-available upgrades from Gold, Executive Lounge access at Diamond and a guaranteed 4pm late check-out at Diamond Reserve. [3] [5]

How the tiers are earned

Qualification is measured within a calendar year, which the terms define as 1 January to 31 December. [3] A member qualifies on any one of three measures — Stays, nights or Eligible Spend — with Diamond Reserve the exception, because there the spend threshold is required in addition to the Stay or night count. [3] For how other hotel and airline programmes set their own hurdles, see status thresholds in major programmes.

A Stay is the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, whether or not the guest checks out and checks back in again. [3] Eligible Spend covers the room rate plus eligible food and beverage, telephone, laundry, pay-per-view movies, entertainment and recreational facilities and other incidentals charged to the member's room during a qualifying Stay; applicable taxes are excluded. [3] Stays at properties outside the United States are converted to US dollars weekly at a published rate that Hilton chooses, and that rate may differ from the one a credit card company uses. [3]

Two points matter when planning a run at a tier. Reward stays do count toward the Stays and nights used for elite qualification, but a member receives Stay and night credit for one room only, even when several rooms are paid for on one folio. [3] Points earned do not help: Hilton Honors states that Points earned do not count toward Elite Tier Status qualification. [3]

Status, once earned, is held for the remainder of the calendar year in which it was earned and for the following calendar year, and members must re-qualify each calendar year. [3]

What each tier includes

Silver. Silver pays a 20% bonus on Base Points earned during a qualifying Stay, adds complimentary standard in-room and lobby WiFi, two complimentary bottles of water per Stay at the brands named in the terms, and a fifth night free on all-points standard room reward stays. [3] [5]

Gold. Gold pays an 80% bonus on Base Points, offers a choice of MyWay on-property benefit and grants space-available upgrades at check-in to preferred rooms, which can include rooms conferring Executive Lounge access but not executive suites, villas or Club-type accommodation. [3] Lounge access at Gold is conditional: the member and one additional guest are admitted only where the upgrade is to the Executive Floor or to a room type that confers lounge access. [3] Hilton's benefits page lists a daily food and beverage credit or continental breakfast for Gold, varying by brand and region. [5]

Diamond. Diamond carries a 100% bonus on Base Points, premium WiFi, space-available upgrades up to junior, standard or one-bedroom suites, complimentary Executive Lounge access for the member and one additional registered guest even without a room upgrade, and a 48-hour reservations guarantee on paid bookings made at least 48 hours before arrival. [3] [5] Diamond members can also bid on auction experiences that Hilton lists as Diamond-only. [3]

Diamond Reserve. Diamond Reserve, which Hilton presents as a new exclusive tier, adds a 120% bonus on Base Points, guaranteed 4pm late check-out at the brands listed in the terms for one room, and a dedicated Exclusive Customer Service line. [3] [5] The benefits page also lists a confirmable upgrade reward chosen at booking for stays of up to seven nights and complimentary access to all lounges, including Premium Clubs. [5]

The same benefits page lists milestone bonuses of 10,000 Bonus Points for every 10 nights stayed after 40 nights in a calendar year, and status gifting: at 60 nights in a calendar year a member can gift Gold status, and at 100 nights that gift is upgraded to Diamond. [5]

Extensions, Lifetime Diamond and rollover

Diamond extension. Diamond members who fail to re-qualify on Stays, nights or Eligible Spend have a one-time limited opportunity to extend the tier. [3] [5] For a Diamond tier set to expire on 31 March 2026, the requirements are three total years at Diamond, which need not be consecutive, and either at least 250 nights (paid or reward) or 500,000 or more earned Base Points since joining. [3] For expiry on 31 March 2027 and beyond, the requirements are three total years at Diamond and either 250 nights or US$50,000 or more of Eligible Spend since joining. [3] Requests are submitted through a dedicated page at hiltonhonors.com/diamondstatusextension. [3]

Lifetime Diamond. Lifetime Diamond is awarded to members who have held Diamond for at least ten years, non-consecutive, and have either completed 1,000 paid or reward nights or accumulated US$200,000 of Eligible Spend over their membership. [3] A year only counts once 365 days have been completed at Diamond, so a member who reaches Diamond on 1 November 2026 completes a qualifying year on 1 November 2027. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Excluded stays. Wholesale and tour-operator packages, contracted crew rates, travel agency discount rates, casino player-card packages, unauthorised Go Hilton team member and friends-and-family rates, timeshare stays and Hilton Grand Vacations marketing packages, HiltonGetaways.com bookings, complimentary or barter rooms, group tour series and net contracted rates, third-party website bookings and opaque-channel bookings all fall outside the definition of a Stay. [3] No Points, Eligible Spend, Stay or night credit is given for a no-show. [3]
  • Upgrade limits. Upgrades are given for one room per member per qualifying Stay regardless of extra rooms booked, and are not offered at Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton by Hilton, LivSmart Studios, Tru by Hilton, Spark, Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Hilton Grand Vacations or Motto by Hilton, nor at named properties such as Napua Tower at Grand Wailea, the Imperial Floor at Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa. [3]
  • Lounge versus breakfast credit. Members given complimentary Executive Lounge access that includes breakfast seven days a week are not eligible for the daily Food & Beverage Credit. [3]
  • 48-hour guarantee. The guarantee excludes reservations paid in part or in full with Points or Hilton free night certificates, does not apply when a hotel is overbooked by 10% or more (or 2% or more at certain hotels), and does not apply during Extraordinary Demand Dates or at several named resorts; it covers one room reserved with a valid credit card and occupied by the member. [3]
  • Eligible booking channels. On-property benefits require a confirmed reservation through a Hilton brand or Hilton Honors website, the Hilton reservations phone line, the Hilton Honors app, the hotel directly, or an IATA-accredited retail travel agent booking through a Hilton channel or Amadeus, Apollo/Galileo, Worldspan or Sabre; third-party, opaque and non-designated channel bookings do not qualify. [3]
  • Where Hilton keeps discretion. Hilton Honors may add, modify, delete or otherwise change rules, procedures, conditions, benefits or rewards at its sole discretion with or without notice, even where a change affects the value of Points or Rewards already accumulated, and all interpretations of the terms are at its sole discretion. [3] Lifetime Diamond is granted at Hilton's discretion and may be ended or amended without notice or compensation. [3] The programme has no predetermined termination date and may be terminated at any time, after which members have twelve months from the announcement to accumulate Points and redeem a Reward. [3]
