GUIDE
How to earn and retain KrisFlyer status
KrisFlyer status is earned through two separate measures in the Singapore Airlines loyalty programme: Elite miles, which open up KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Elite Gold, and PPS Value, which opens up PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club. [1] [5] Elite Silver requires 25,000 Elite miles earned within 12 consecutive months, and Elite Gold requires 50,000 over the same window. [6]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- KrisFlyer uses two different measurements: Elite miles for KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Elite Gold, and PPS Value for PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club. [1] [5]
- Elite Silver takes 25,000 Elite miles within 12 consecutive months and Elite Gold takes 50,000; the status then lasts 12 months and can be renewed by earning the same amount again during the membership period. [6]
- On Singapore Airlines, the Elite mile rate depends on cabin and booking class and runs from 50% to 200% of the miles actually flown. [6] [5]
- Elite miles earned from spending with Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago can cover no more than 20% of a qualification or renewal: 5,000 miles for Elite Silver and 10,000 for Elite Gold. [6] [5]
How do you qualify for KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Elite Gold?
KrisFlyer is the rewards programme of the Singapore Airlines Group, and members earn two things at once when they fly: KrisFlyer miles, which pay for redemptions, and Elite miles, which track progress towards the Elite tiers. [1] Elite miles also unlock KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards along the way. [1]
The measurement is cumulative over a rolling window rather than a calendar year: 25,000 Elite miles earned within 12 consecutive months qualifies a member for Elite Silver, and 50,000 within 12 consecutive months qualifies for Elite Gold. [6] Each membership lasts 12 months, and earning at least the same number of Elite miles again during the membership period requalifies the member for another year. [6]
| Tier | Elite miles required | Earning window | Membership length |
|---|---|---|---|
| KrisFlyer Elite Silver | 25,000 | 12 consecutive months | 12 months |
| KrisFlyer Elite Gold | 50,000 | 12 consecutive months | 12 months |
Two details trip people up at the boundary. A tier upgrade can take up to one day to process, and Elite miles earned before the upgrade is applied do not count towards the next renewal. [6] Elite miles are also reset at the end of each member's individual Elite membership year, which is the 12 consecutive months running from the date of upgrade or renewal. [5]
The tiers differ in benefits as well as in name: Elite Silver adds a 25% bonus on KrisFlyer miles earned, discounted service fees and priority reservation waitlisting, while Elite Gold adds lounge access at more than 1,000 lounges, priority check-in and extra baggage allowance. [6] [4]
How do fare, cabin and partner flying count towards Elite miles?
Elite miles are derived from the actual miles flown plus any applicable booking-class bonus on tickets that are eligible to earn miles, so the cabin and fare bought matter as much as the distance. [6] On Singapore Airlines the published rates are:
| Cabin class | Booking class | Earning rate |
|---|---|---|
| Suites / First Class | A, F | 200% |
| Business Class | Z, C, J | 150% |
| Business Class | U, D | 125% |
| Premium Economy | S, T | 125% |
| Premium Economy | R, L, P | 100% |
| Economy | Y, B, E | 100% |
| Economy | M, H, W | 75% |
| Economy | Q, N, V, K, G | 50% |
The published table groups G with Q, N, V and K at 50%, but the KrisFlyer terms add that by default no Elite miles are earned for tickets booked in G booking class on Singapore Airlines. [5] [6]
On Scoot, a member earns 2.5 Elite miles for every KrisFlyer mile earned. [6] Elite miles can also be earned with Star Alliance airlines, with Juneyao Air as a Star Alliance Connecting Partner, and with other selected airline partners. [6] The terms name Singapore Airlines, Star Alliance partner airlines and Virgin Australia as the flights that count towards Elite Silver and Elite Gold. [5] The Virgin Australia link is narrow: it covers Singapore Airlines codeshare flights operated by Virgin Australia within Australia, on Trans-Tasman routes and between Australia and the Pacific Islands, and does not apply to flights on Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Olympic Air or Virgin Atlantic. [6]
Where a booking mixes miles and cash, Elite miles are calculated on the cash amount paid, excluding taxes, and no Elite miles are earned on fares paid in full with KrisFlyer miles. [6] Tier bonuses and promotional bonuses do not count as Elite miles, and nothing is earned if the miles are not credited to a KrisFlyer account or the fare is not eligible to earn miles. [6] Elite miles themselves cannot be spent on award flights, upgrade awards or airfares. [6]
Can you earn Elite miles without flying?
Partly. From 1 September 2025, qualifying spending earns Non-Flight Elite Miles at the applicable rate with Kris+ in Singapore and with Kris+ in Sydney and Melbourne, and with KrisShop and with Pelago, counting only the net amounts described in the terms. [5] [6]
Ground spending cannot carry a whole qualification: non-flight Elite miles count towards at most 20% of the total required, which is 5,000 miles when qualifying or requalifying for Elite Silver and 10,000 for Elite Gold. [6] [5] Singapore Airlines illustrates the cap with a member holding 18,000 flight Elite miles and 6,000 ground Elite miles in a 12-month window: only 5,000 of the ground miles count, leaving a 2,000-mile shortfall against the 25,000 needed for Elite Silver. [6]
Some transactions never produce Elite miles, including welcome miles from enrolment, miles awarded as lucky-draw prizes, miles from other promotions unless their own terms say otherwise, bonus KrisPay miles from bank conversion campaigns and conversions from KrisFlyer miles to KrisPay miles. [5] Non-flight Elite miles are normally credited within seven days of the underlying KrisFlyer or KrisPay miles appearing. [5] If a qualifying transaction is later refunded, Singapore Airlines may reverse the Elite miles awarded for it and may downgrade a tier that was reached only because of them. [5]
How is PPS Club status earned?
PPS Club sits above the Elite tiers and runs on a different metric. Flying Singapore Airlines Suites, First Class or Business Class accumulates PPS Value, and enough PPS Value earns a place in the PPS Club or in Solitaire PPS Club, the highest membership tier. [1]
Only PPS Value derived from Singapore dollars spent on eligible flights — Suites, First Class and Business Class on Singapore Airlines — counts towards qualification or renewal, and PPS Value cannot be earned in Premium Economy or Economy Class. [5] It is derived from the actual amounts paid, excluding airport taxes, for commercial air tickets; award and redemption tickets, and industry, agency, discounted or sponsored tickets, do not generate it. [5] Amounts spent in other currencies are converted to Singapore dollars at the IATA monthly exchange rate for the month of ticketing. [5]
Where a ticket is part-paid with KrisFlyer miles, PPS Value is earned only on the cash portion, excluding airport taxes, and it is earned once per flight per person however many seats are bought. [5] PPS Value cannot be redeemed for awards or against airfares. [5] Singapore Airlines assesses qualification and renewal in its sole discretion, and members who hold PPS Club alongside Elite Silver or Elite Gold receive the PPS Club privileges, because benefits and privileges for the two programmes are not accumulated together. [5]
Exceptions and limits
- One programme per flight. A member may credit only one frequent flyer programme for each flight or transaction, and attempting to credit more than one forfeits the miles, points or status credits for that flight. [5]
- Personal status. KrisFlyer membership and status credits such as Elite miles and PPS Value are personal and not transferable, except that miles in a minor's account can move to a linked parent or guardian's account when the linking requirements are met and the relevant fees paid. [5]
- Fixed windows. Elite miles are measured in 12 consecutive months for qualification and reset to zero at the end of each individual Elite membership year, so credit does not roll forward indefinitely. [6] [5]
- Fare-class exclusions. By default, no Elite miles are earned on G booking class tickets on Singapore Airlines, and Elite miles are not awarded on codeshare flights marketed by Singapore Airlines but operated by non-KrisFlyer partner airlines. [5]
- Suspension. While a membership is suspended, the member cannot use accrued miles, status credits, benefits or rewards, and those balances may expire during the suspension. [5]
- Programme changes. Singapore Airlines reserves the right to change qualification and renewal criteria for all KrisFlyer and PPS Club tiers, so thresholds should be checked against the current terms before planning a status run. [5]
Frequently asked questions
How many Elite miles do you need for KrisFlyer Elite Gold?
50,000 Elite miles earned within 12 consecutive months. Elite Silver needs 25,000 over the same window, and both tiers then last 12 months. [6]
Do Elite miles carry over into the next membership year?
No. Elite miles are reset to zero at the end of each member's individual Elite membership year, a 12-month period that starts on the date of upgrade or renewal. [5]
Does Economy Class flying earn PPS Value?
No. PPS Value is earned only on Singapore Airlines Suites, First Class and Business Class flights, and cannot be earned in Premium Economy or Economy Class. [5]
Do Star Alliance flights count towards KrisFlyer Elite status?
Yes. Elite miles can be earned on Star Alliance airlines, Juneyao Air as a Star Alliance Connecting Partner and other selected partners, and the terms name Singapore Airlines, Star Alliance partner airlines and Virgin Australia as counting. [6] [5]
Can you reach Elite Silver with spending alone?
Not on its own. Non-flight Elite miles from Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago count towards at most 20% of the requirement, which is 5,000 miles for Elite Silver and 10,000 for Elite Gold. [6]
