How to earn points with SAS EuroBonus
SAS EuroBonus is the loyalty programme of Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), owned and operated by SAS EuroBonus AB, in which members collect points on purchases and activities with SAS and its business partners and spend them on award trips and other rewards. [3] EuroBonus separates what you collect into three things: Level points and Qualifying flights, which move you up membership levels, and Bonus points, which pay for awards. [3]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- EuroBonus counts three things: Level points that buy status but cannot be spent, Bonus points that buy award trips but give no status, and Qualifying flights that count toward a level upgrade or renewal. [3]
- Points land only if your EuroBonus number is quoted correctly at the time of the activity, such as a purchase, booking or check-in. [3]
- Flights earn on the booking class originally booked and paid for, whatever upgrade or downgrade you later receive. [3] A partner booking class that is missing from the published table earns nothing. [5]
- Award trips earn neither Bonus points nor Qualifying flights. [6]
How do you earn EuroBonus points?
Points come from activities with SAS and its business partners, a group that includes airlines, travel companies and other companies whose products can earn or take points. [3] Which activities count, and how many points each one produces, is decided by SAS and varies by business partner and by offer. [3]
The figure is set by the earning scheme in force on the date of the activity, not the date you booked it. [3] The rules and benefits attached to your membership level work the same way, so a status change between reservation and departure moves you onto the rules of the level you hold when the activity happens. [3]
Credit depends on identifying yourself: points are registered only if your EuroBonus number is quoted correctly at the moment of the activity, whether that is a purchase, a booking or a check-in. [3] On flights, SAS asks members to give the number when booking or when checking in at the airport. [5]
- Level points count toward an upgrade or the renewal of a membership level, but cannot be used for award trips and other products. [3]
- Bonus points can be spent on award trips and other products, but do not count toward an upgrade. [3]
- Qualifying flights are flights operated by SAS, or selected flights operated by other airlines as listed on SAS's website, and count toward an upgrade or renewal. [3]
Points belong to the traveller rather than the payer: only you can earn for your own travel or flight, whoever paid for it. [3] If you belong to several programmes, one flight leg, hotel stay, car rental or other activity can be credited to only one of them, and registered points cannot be moved to another programme afterwards. [3] During a hotel stay, points can be earned for one room by one person at a time. [3]
How do SAS and partner flights earn points?
Air tickets earn according to the booking class originally booked and paid for, regardless of any upgrade or downgrade, unless SAS states otherwise. [3] On a codeshare flight marketed by SAS or a partner airline but operated by another carrier, the airline that decides is the marketing carrier when the partner belongs to the SkyTeam airline alliance, and the operating carrier when it does not. [3] In either case the booking class on the ticket may differ from the one the deciding airline uses to work out the points. [3]
Nothing is earned for flights operated by an airline that does not take part in EuroBonus. [3] EuroBonus points are likewise not earned on SkyTeam-marketed flights that are operated by airlines outside the SkyTeam alliance. [5]
How many points does a partner flight earn?
For Aerolíneas Argentinas-marketed flights, SAS publishes a formula based on distance in miles with a travel-class multiplier and a booking-class multiplier: Bonus points = distance in miles × [distance multiplier + booking class multiplier + (distance multiplier × bonus point booster)], and Level points = distance in miles × [distance multiplier + booking class multiplier]. [5]
| Travel class | Booking class | Distance multiplier | Booking class multiplier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business | J, C | 150% | 50% |
| Premium Economy | D, I, W, S | 125% | 25% |
| Economy | Y, B | 100% | 0% |
| Economy | M, U, K, H, L, Q | 50% | 0% |
| Economy | T, E, V, N | 25% | 0% |
On the same Aerolíneas Argentinas-marketed flights, Silver members earn 25% more Bonus points, Gold members 50% more and Diamond members 75% more. [5] A booking class that does not appear in the table earns no points on the flight. [5] Because the number of points varies by business partner and offer, these multipliers describe this one partner rather than partner flights in general. [3]
What does not earn EuroBonus points?
- Discount tickets — Industry Discount, Agent Discount, award trip tickets, standby tickets, charter tickets and certain discounts — earn no points and do not help you reach a higher level. [3]
- Charter tickets and activities are generally excluded unless SAS has said otherwise. [3]
- Infants aged 0–23 months earn points only when they hold their own paid seat. [3]
- Tickets and services bought but not used, and products that have been refunded, earn nothing. [3]
- Award trips earn neither EuroBonus points nor qualifying flights. [6]
Exceptions and limits
- Retroactive registration is done online only and is generally limited to travel and activities from the past six months; a new member can register SAS flights taken up to 30 days before the membership began. [3]
- SAS EuroBonus may correct or withdraw points wrongly registered because of a technical error or any other malfunction, and may withdraw points where the member terms or the SAS Conditions of Carriage are breached; either step can also affect membership level. [3]
- Points and benefits are personal and cannot be sold, transferred, combined, inherited, refunded in cash or used for anything outside the programme. [3] Membership can be terminated for misuse, and previously earned but unused points and issued EuroBonus tickets or vouchers then become void. [3]
- Points remain valid for an additional four years after the qualification period in which they were earned, and spending them also requires at least one point-qualifying activity beyond welcome or introduction bonuses. [3]
- If no points are earned for 24 months, SAS EuroBonus may terminate the membership, provided the account holds no valid, usable points. [3]
- Separate terms for individual products may deviate from the member terms and prevail where the two conflict. [3] SAS may change the terms, and new rules, charts and levels apply from the date set. [3]
Frequently asked questions
Do you earn EuroBonus points on award flights?
No. Award trips earn neither EuroBonus points nor qualifying flights. [6]
What happens if my booking class is not on a partner's table?
On Aerolíneas Argentinas-marketed flights, a booking class that is not listed earns no points. [5] Each partner's earning differs, since the number of points varies by business partner and offer. [3]
Can I claim points for a flight I forgot to credit?
Yes, within limits: retroactive registration is made online and generally covers travel and activities from the past six months, or for a new member, SAS flights taken up to 30 days before joining. [3]
Does an upgrade increase the points I earn?
No. Earning follows the booking class originally booked and paid for, whatever upgrade or downgrade you receive. [3]
Can I credit a flight to EuroBonus and to another programme?
No. Each flight leg, hotel stay, car rental or other activity can be credited to only one programme, and points already registered cannot be moved. [3]
