SkyTeam Lounge Access: Rules and Exceptions

SkyTeam lounge access is the alliance-wide rule set that admits First and Business Class passengers and SkyTeam Elite Plus members to participating airport lounges — more than 750 of them worldwide — when they are travelling on a qualifying same-day SkyTeam itinerary. [1]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • SkyTeam says Elite Plus, First Class and Business Class customers can use more than 750 member lounges worldwide, and that no reservation is needed. [1]
  • Elite Plus access does not depend on the class flown, but the itinerary must be a same-day international flight operated by a SkyTeam member, or same-day transfers between two SkyTeam members' flights. [1]
  • Lounges are available at departure and transfer airports only, not on arrival, and SkyTeam does not currently sell lounge access on skyteam.com. [1]

Who qualifies

SkyTeam publishes two separate routes into its lounges: cabin and status. [1] The cabin route covers First and Business Class customers travelling on a same-day international flight operated by a SkyTeam member airline, or on same-day transfers between flights, domestic or international, operated by two SkyTeam members. [1] Where the journey connects, both the domestic and the international flight must be operated by a SkyTeam member airline, and every segment must be booked in First or Business Class. [1]

The status route is SkyTeam Elite Plus. [1] Eligible Elite Plus members are admitted regardless of the class they fly, as long as they travel on a same-day international flight operated by a SkyTeam member airline or on same-day transfers between two SkyTeam-operated flights. [1] SkyTeam's lounge policy names Elite Plus as the status tier; it does not describe lounge access for the lower Elite tier. [1]

Same-day itinerary rules

Access follows the journey rather than the airport. SkyTeam provides lounge access at the departure and transfer airports only, and not on arrival at the destination. [1] At the departure airport, First, Business and Elite Plus customers can use the lounge from at least three hours before the scheduled departure time of their flight. [1] Elite Plus customers connecting between two SkyTeam-operated flights keep access at the point of transfer. [1]

Admission is not automatic at the door. First and Business Class customers present their boarding pass to the lounge agent for validation before entry, and Elite Plus customers present their boarding passes together with a valid Elite Plus membership card. [1] SkyTeam adds that lounge access may vary by airline and directs travellers to its Lounge Finder for the detail of each location. [1]

Domestic flying carries extra conditions in the published policy. [1] Elite Plus customers travelling on a domestic flight need an itinerary that connects a domestic flight to an international flight, or a domestic flight to another domestic flight followed by a transfer to an international flight, while customers on a domestic-only itinerary may have access to selected lounges. [1]

Guests, domestic lounges and paying for access

Guests. Elite Plus members may invite one guest, who must be travelling on the same SkyTeam member-operated flight as the member, irrespective of that guest's preceding and onward flights. [1] The guest's boarding pass is presented to the lounge agent for validation and admission. [1] SkyTeam's page sets out a guest allowance for Elite Plus only and publishes none for First or Business Class customers. [1]

Domestic lounges since April 2025. SkyTeam says that since 1 April 2025 Elite Plus customers have also had lounge access when travelling on domestic flights, available at selected SkyTeam member airline lounges; more than 70 lounges can be used on domestic itineraries, and the alliance says it plans to extend this gradually. [1]

Paying for access. It is not currently possible to purchase lounge access through skyteam.com. [1] Access at an individual lounge can also depend on the operator flying you: SkyTeam's joint lounge with Global Lounge Network at São Paulo–Guarulhos, Terminal 2, open 24 hours, is available to Elite Plus, First and Business Class customers flying on services operated by Air Europa. [1]

Exceptions and limits

  • Delta Sky Club. Complimentary lounge access at Delta Sky Clubs is no longer extended to Delta SkyMiles members with Elite Plus-equivalent status — Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion — when they fly internationally in Main Cabin or Delta Comfort+. [1] Effective 1 January 2024, SkyMiles members travelling in Basic Economy or an equivalent partner cabin have no access to Delta Sky Clubs, and SkyTeam Elite Plus members from other SkyTeam programmes are not affected. [1] Delta Elite Plus members flying on a Delta or other SkyTeam-operated flight can continue to use other SkyTeam member airlines' lounges and SkyTeam-branded lounges, but third-party lounges are excluded. [1]
  • US–Caribbean travel. For the Elite Plus rule, "international travel" excludes travel between the United States and the Caribbean. [1]
  • Separate domestic policies. Different domestic lounge-access policies may apply to members of Aerolíneas Argentinas' Aerolíneas Plus and Delta Air Lines' SkyMiles programme. [1]
  • Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse. The access policy for Virgin Atlantic's Clubhouse at London Heathrow Terminal 3 is published on virginatlantic.com rather than within SkyTeam's own policy. [1]
  • Changing house rules. SkyTeam publishes house rules for lounge guests and reserves the right to revise them without notice. [1]
  • Not published. SkyTeam's page does not set out lounge access for the Elite tier, a guest allowance for First or Business Class, entry on arrival, or a price for buying access. [1]
