How to compare Singapore Airlines fare types
Singapore Airlines fare types on paid tickets are identified by the booking-class letter carried in the reservation, and that letter sets how many Elite miles the flight earns in the KrisFlyer programme — 200% of miles flown in First (F, A) down to 50% in the deepest Economy classes (Q, N, V, K, G). [3] The extras that travellers usually associate with a fare, such as free seat selection and a free change of date or time, are attached to KrisFlyer Elite Silver or Elite Gold status rather than to the booking letter on its own. [4]

Key takeaways
- A paid Singapore Airlines ticket falls into one of four cabins and carries a booking-class letter: First uses F and A, Business uses Z, C, J, U and D, Premium Economy uses S, T, R, L, P, and Economy uses Y, B, E, M, H, W, Q, N, V, K and G. [3]
- Elite miles, the counter that decides KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Elite Gold, are earned at a rate set by that letter, from 200% of miles flown in F and A to 50% in Q, N, V, K and G. [3]
- When a ticket is paid partly in miles, Elite miles are calculated only on the cash amount actually paid, excluding taxes; a fare settled entirely in KrisFlyer miles earns no Elite miles. [3]
How are Singapore Airlines fare types identified?
Every paid Singapore Airlines ticket sits in one of four cabins and carries a booking-class letter. First uses F and A; Business uses Z, C, J, U and D; Premium Economy uses S, T, R, L, P; Economy uses Y, B, E, M, H, W, Q, N, V, K and G. [3]
The single letter is also how the airline labels cabins on its own seat plans. The three-class long-haul Airbus A350-900 plan marks the cabins “Business Class – J”, “Premium Economy Class – S” and “Economy Class – Y”. [5] Within Economy the same plan separates Extra Legroom seats, Forward Zone seats and Standard seats, and notes that the number of Extra Legroom seats can vary from flight to flight, so the seat map shown at the time of booking is the version to rely on. [5]

How many Elite miles does each booking class earn?
Elite miles are what a KrisFlyer member accumulates towards Elite Silver and Elite Gold. On Singapore Airlines flights they are based on the miles actually flown, adjusted by a rate that depends on the booking class. [3] The rates published as of 18 October 2026 are set out below. [3]
| Cabin | Booking classes | Rate applied to miles flown |
|---|---|---|
| First | F, A | 200% |
| Business | Z, C, J | 150% |
| Business | U, D | 125% |
| Premium Economy | S, T | 125% |
| Premium Economy | R, L, P | 100% |
| Economy | Y, B, E | 100% |
| Economy | M, H, W | 75% |
| Economy | Q, N, V, K, G | 50% |
Flying Scoot earns 2.5 Elite miles for every KrisFlyer mile collected. [3] Elite miles also accrue on Star Alliance carriers, on the Star Alliance Connecting Partner Juneyao Air and on other nominated airline partners, as explained in the KrisFlyer Star Alliance earning guide. [3]
How are Elite miles counted on miles-and-cash bookings?
Where a booking is paid partly in miles and partly in cash, Elite miles are calculated on the cash amount actually paid, excluding taxes. [3] A fare paid entirely with KrisFlyer miles earns no Elite miles. [3] Tier bonus miles and promotional bonus miles are not counted as Elite miles, and nothing is earned if the miles are not credited to a KrisFlyer account or if the fare is not eligible for mileage accrual. [3] Elite miles cannot be redeemed for award flights, upgrade awards or tickets. [3]
What do Elite Silver and Elite Gold add to a paid ticket?
KrisFlyer Elite Silver is reached with 25,000 Elite miles earned within 12 consecutive months. It brings a 25% bonus on the KrisFlyer miles actually flown, free Standard seat selection in Singapore Airlines Economy, priority airport check-in and boarding, and an additional free baggage allowance. [4]
KrisFlyer Elite Gold is reached with 50,000 Elite miles within 12 consecutive months and adds worldwide Star Alliance and KrisFlyer Gold lounge access, priority baggage handling and free Forward Zone seat selection in Singapore Airlines Economy, on top of the Silver benefits. [4]
The seat benefits line up with the seat categories on the aircraft plan: Standard seats for Silver, Forward Zone seats for Gold, with Extra Legroom seats a separate category whose availability varies by flight. [4] [5] Members who fly First or Suites can compare those cabins on the Suites and First Class page.
KrisFlyer membership itself brings free unlimited inflight Wi-Fi on Singapore Airlines flights, provided the membership number is added to the booking through Manage Booking before departure. [4]
What change allowance does KrisFlyer Elite Gold include?
The free change that the KrisFlyer programme attaches to a paid booking is a Scoot benefit: Elite Gold members pay no fee for the first change of flight date or time on each Scoot booking. [4] It applies per booking, so every Scoot booking carries its own first free date or time change. [4] On the Singapore Airlines side, the date, conditions and destination of a paid ticket are governed by the airline’s conditions of carriage. [2]

Exceptions and limits
- Elite miles earned from non-flight spending are capped at 20% of the threshold needed: at most 5,000 towards Elite Silver and 10,000 towards Elite Gold. [3]
- Partner earning has boundaries: the listed partners cover Virgin Atlantic-operated non-transatlantic routes, Singapore Airlines codeshares with Virgin Australia within Australia, across the Tasman and between Australia and Pacific island nations, and Singapore Airlines codeshares with Vistara within India, while flights operated by Alaska Airlines, JetBlue and Olympic Air are excluded. [3]
- Elite status lasts 12 months from qualification and is renewed by earning the same threshold again during the current membership period; an upgrade can take up to one day to process, and Elite miles earned before the upgrade do not count towards renewal in the next cycle. [3]
- The Elite Silver seat benefit for Scoot group travellers, which covers preferred or standard seat selection and priority boarding, does not apply to groups of 10 or more. [4]

How many Elite miles are needed for Elite Silver and Elite Gold?
