GUIDE
Start here: SAS EuroBonus
SAS EuroBonus is the loyalty programme of Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), run by SAS EuroBonus AB, in which members collect Bonus points to spend on flights and Level points and qualifying flights that count towards a higher membership level. [3] The member terms take effect from 1 September 2024, and this six-step course moves a new member from joining to a first award booking. [3]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- EuroBonus divides rewards into Bonus points, which pay for award trips and other products, and Level points, which count towards your membership level but cannot be spent. [3]
- Points are valid for an additional four years after the qualification period in which they were earned. [3]
- Award seats are limited and released up to 330 days before departure; point prices are fixed by destination and travel class, with taxes and fees paid separately by card. [6] [4]
What is SAS EuroBonus and how do you join?
Step 1: What is SAS EuroBonus?
SAS EuroBonus is owned and operated by SAS EuroBonus AB, corporate identity number 559224-9782, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SAS AB and an affiliate of Scandinavian Airlines System Denmark-Norway-Sweden (SAS). [3] Members earn points on purchases and activities with SAS and with its business partners, a group that includes airlines, travel companies and other companies offering benefits to EuroBonus members. [3]
The programme runs three categories. Level points count towards upgrading or renewing your membership level but cannot be used for award trips or other products; Bonus points can be used for award trips and other products but never count towards an upgrade; qualifying flights are SAS-operated flights, plus selected flights by other airlines listed on SAS's website, and count towards a higher level or a renewal. [3] Points register only when your EuroBonus number is quoted correctly at the time of the activity, whether that is a purchase, a booking or check-in. [3]
Step 2: How do you join SAS EuroBonus?
Membership is open to all natural persons and comes with a digital EuroBonus card; anyone under 18 needs a legal guardian's consent. [3] One account per person is permitted, the card is personal, and the name in your profile should match your passport, with your own personal email address and country registered — an "address c/o" is not permitted. [3] At 18 a member chooses either to continue and keep previously earned points and level, or to end the membership. [3] Detail changes that cannot be edited online must be notified in writing with supporting documentation, such as a copy of a valid passport for a name or date-of-birth change. [3]
How do you earn EuroBonus points?
Step 3: How do you earn EuroBonus points?
Earnings follow the scheme in force on the date of the activity rather than the booking date, and vary by partner and offer. [3] On flights you earn by the booking class originally booked and paid for, regardless of any upgrade or downgrade. [3] Industry discount, agent discount, award, standby and charter tickets earn neither points nor level progress. [3] Only you can earn points for your own travel, whoever paid, and infants aged 0–23 months earn points only when holding their own paid seat. [3]
Travel older than six months cannot be registered retroactively online, although a new member may register SAS flights taken up to 30 days before the membership began. [3] On codeshares marketed by SAS or a partner but operated by another airline, a SkyTeam airline alliance partner's marketing airline decides whether and how many points are earned, while for a partner outside SkyTeam the operating airline decides. [3] Flights operated by an airline that does not take part in EuroBonus earn nothing. [3]
Partner earning uses published multipliers. On SkyTeam partner Aerolíneas Argentinas, the number of points depends on travel class, booking class and distance flown, and a booking class that is not listed earns no points. [5]
| Travel class | Booking class | Distance multiplier | Booking class multiplier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business | J, C | 150% | 50% |
| Premium Economy | D, I, W, S | 125% | 25% |
| Economy | Y, B | 100% | 0% |
| Economy | M, U, K, H, L, Q | 50% | 0% |
| Economy | T, E, V, N | 25% | 0% |
Bonus points are calculated as distance in miles × [distance multiplier + booking class multiplier + (distance multiplier × bonus point booster)], while Level points use the same formula without the booster. [5] Silver members earn 25% more Bonus points on those flights, Gold 50% and Diamond 75%. [5]
How do you spend points and move up membership levels?
Step 4: How do you spend EuroBonus points?
Points can pay for tickets and vouchers issued by SAS and, in some cases, by business partners. [3] A Regular ticket may be paid wholly or partly with points, in which case the Regular fare rules apply, while a EuroBonus award ticket carries a fixed point price. [3] Travel agencies may not issue tickets or vouchers in exchange for points, and additional cash fees may apply. [3] Taxes, fees and charges are always paid separately and cannot be settled in points. [3]
Points become usable once your balance is sufficient, provided you have completed at least one point-qualifying activity beyond any welcome or introduction bonus, and they then remain valid for an additional four years after the qualification period in which they were earned. [3] Availability is limited, and seats can be on sale for cash while not offered for points. [3] Points and benefits are personal and may not be sold, transferred, combined, inherited or refunded in cash, though award trips and benefits may be used by you or your closest family. [3] Points cannot be combined with cash, discount offers, coupons or other special offers unless EB states otherwise, and on a rebooking or cancellation only valid points return, keeping their original expiry date. [3]
Step 5: How do EuroBonus membership levels work?
Level points and qualifying flights move you towards a higher level or a renewal; Bonus points never do. [3] The rules and benefits of your level at the time of the activity apply, so an upgrade or downgrade between reservation and departure means your level at departure governs. [3] Ordinary booking rules apply to all members regardless of level, and service benefits attached to a level apply only to you personally unless stated otherwise. [3] Award trips earn neither EuroBonus points nor qualifying flights. [6]
How do you plan a first EuroBonus award booking?
Step 6: How do you plan a first EuroBonus award booking?
Award seats are limited and released up to 330 days before departure, and SAS award flights are marked with a gold dot. [6] Point prices are fixed by destination and travel class, with taxes and fees added at booking and paid by card. [6] On partner awards a one-way trip costs 60% of the round-trip price. [4] You can combine SAS and other SkyTeam airlines in one booking, and mix travel classes between outbound and return but not within one direction. [4]
A booking fee applies on partner airlines of 250–950 SEK or NOK, 175–665 DKK, or from 25 EUR per traveller depending on the trip and travel class, and a service fee is added for telephone bookings unless you cannot book online. [4] On SAS award tickets, children aged 2–11 pay 50% in points and infants under 2 fly free with taxes still due [6], whereas partner award bookings carry no child discounts. [4] Stopovers longer than 24 hours are excluded on partner awards [4]; on SAS award tickets they are allowed only on SAS flights to or from Asia or North America, one each way. [6]
Cancellation is free within 24 hours of booking, with points refunded; otherwise you can cancel or rebook up to 24 hours before departure for a fee per traveller. [4]
| Itinerary | Fee |
|---|---|
| Within Europe and domestic | 250 SEK, 250 NOK or 175 DKK |
| International, including to and from Asia and North America | 750 SEK, 750 NOK or 525 DKK |
SAS award tickets can be cancelled or rebooked up to one hour before departure while the points remain valid, and valid points are credited back to the account. [6] Booking fees are refundable when you cancel, expiry-dated points and expired Amex 2-for-1 vouchers are not, and refunds can take up to seven business days. [4] One Amex 2-for-1 voucher may be used per booking for a maximum of two travellers [4], and both Amex 2-for-1 and Mastercard Fly Premium can only be applied when the booking is made, not on flights already booked. [6]
Exceptions and limits
- If no points are earned for 24 months, EB may terminate the membership, provided the account holds no valid, usable points. [3]
- Misuse can end a membership, voiding unused points and issued tickets or vouchers, and EB may also downgrade a level or withdraw points. [3]
- Points from employer-paid travel may not be used privately in some countries; under Swedish and Norwegian law, state employees may not make private use of points from flights, hotels, car rental or other activities paid for by their employer. [3]
- EB may change the terms, including the rules on earning and using points, and communicates changes in advance; new rules, charts and levels apply from the date set. [3] SAS also reserves the right to change award points and fare rules at any time. [6]
- On Aerolíneas Argentinas, no points are earned on SkyTeam-marketed flights operated by airlines outside the SkyTeam alliance. [5]
- Membership ends if you terminate it, after which points can no longer be earned or used, so EB suggests spending them first. [3]

Can someone else use my EuroBonus points?
Points and benefits are personal and cannot be transferred, but award trips and benefits may be used by you or your closest family. [3]
