How to understand Wyndham Rewards status

Wyndham Rewards status is the member level a guest holds in the Wyndham Rewards hotel programme — Blue, Gold, Platinum or Diamond — which the account panel tracks in nights and which changes how many points a stay can earn. Higher levels are tied in the programme terms to extra earning on qualified stays. [1] [3]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • The account panel lists four levels — Blue, Gold, Platinum and Diamond — and shows how many nights a member is from the next one. [1]
  • The programme advertises up to 10 points per dollar or 1,000 points, whichever is more, on a qualified stay, and Gold, Platinum and Diamond members are the levels named in the terms as earning accelerated points on those stays. [1] [3]
  • Free nights are priced by property and bedroom rather than by level: awards run from 7,500 to 30,000 points per bedroom per night, and cash-and-points nights start at 750 points plus cash. [1] [4]
  • Wyndham Rewards Business sits on its own terms, and the personal programme terms do not apply to it except where they are specifically incorporated. [3]

How do you earn Wyndham Rewards status?

Level progress in Wyndham Rewards is counted in nights, and the signed-in panel tells a member how many nights they are away from their next level. [1] The same panel carries a level-match notice, which states how many more qualifying nights a member must stay by a given date to keep a matched level. [1] For how other hotel programmes handle the same idea, see hotel status qualification.

Only a Qualified Stay counts. That means consecutive nights at the same participating property, a nightly rate total of at least US$25.00 before taxes and fees at most brands, payment under the property's own policy, and a booking made through a Wyndham channel, the brand's official site or its official telephone line, or on property. [3] Stays booked through third-party sites and apps are not Qualified Stays, whatever the rate. [3] At WaterWalk Extended Stay by Wyndham the stay must be in a furnished suite. [3]

Earning on a qualified stay is calculated on the room rate only at most properties where points can be earned, and members are told to check with an individual property whether a stay qualifies. [1] The terms also add enough Additional Points to lift a stay's earnings to a minimum of 1,000 points. [3] Wyndham Rewards reserves the right to change member level benefits and the conditions for holding a level at any time without notice. [3] The current Wyndham Rewards programme page is the place to confirm your own progress.

What does each level change for earning?

The terms define Accelerated Earning Points as points earned by a Gold, Platinum or Diamond member on a Qualified Stay, calculated under the accelerated earning section of the earning rules. [3] Base points on the same stay follow the separate earning-ratio chart in the terms. [3] So the difference the terms describe between Blue and the three higher levels is extra points on qualifying stays, not a different kind of stay.

LevelWhat the programme attaches to it
BlueFirst of the four levels shown in the account panel [1]
GoldEarns Accelerated Earning Points on a Qualified Stay [3]
PlatinumEarns Accelerated Earning Points on a Qualified Stay [3]

Two separate labels can also appear on an account. Insider is sold as a subscription at US$95 a year, auto-renewing until cancelled, with 7,500 bonus points and a first-year offer of two extra months for upgrades completed by 31 December 2026. [1] The site describes it as unlocking discounts and faster earning. [4] The panel can also show a military member label. [1]

Points themselves do not last indefinitely. Outside the Wyndham Rewards Earner Premier Card exception, points expire four years after the date they are posted, and all points in an account may be cancelled or forfeited after roughly eighteen consecutive months without account activity. [3]

What changes when you redeem Wyndham Rewards points?

Redemption requirements are set per bedroom per night and vary by property, and a member must hold enough points for every bedroom in the accommodation being booked. [1] Free nights require 7,500 to 30,000 points, with 30,000 points per bedroom the ceiling stated in the terms. [1] [4] Discounted nights start at 750 points plus cash, and the cash portion varies by property and date. [1]

Taxes and resort fees may still apply on a free night and cannot be paid with points, and awards are subject to availability, blackout dates and rates, and other restrictions. [1] The mechanics of searching and confirming these awards are covered in how to book Wyndham Rewards awards.

How does Wyndham Rewards Business relate to personal status?

Wyndham Business is a separate account aimed at companies and travel planners, joined through its own sign-up rather than through a personal Wyndham Rewards profile. [1] [4] The personal programme terms say that, except to the extent specifically incorporated into the Wyndham Rewards Business terms, their provisions do not apply to the Wyndham Rewards Business programme. [3] Business accounts are marketed with savings of up to 15% off the Standard Rate for small and mid-size businesses. [4]

Limits, exclusions and brand variation

  • Brands that do not take part. Echo Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham does not participate in Wyndham Rewards. [3] Travelodge properties outside the United States, Canada and Mexico do not participate, and the Wyndham Concorde Isla Margarita is not a Participating Hotel. [3]
  • A changeable hotel list. Participating Hotels are the "By Wyndham" properties operating under a franchise, licence or management agreement with a participating hotel chain, and that list of chains can change at any time without notice. [3] Whether a given property counts for earning is a property-level question. [1]
  • Casino-side properties. Hotels co-branded with Trademark Collection by Wyndham and Caesars are treated as Participating Caesars Rewards Properties rather than as Participating Hotels. [3]
  • Redemption-only destinations. At Redemption Cottages members can redeem points but cannot earn points or partner currency. [3]
  • Rates that are not Qualified Stays. Contract rates, wholesale allotment rates, wholesale discount rates and non-revenue nights such as complimentary or award nights are not Qualified Stays, and neither are the various forms of Discounted Nights with Points + Cash. [3] The points-plus-cash category carries an explicit exception, though: the terms provide that, except as otherwise specifically set forth for the various forms of Discounted Nights with Points + Cash at Participating Properties, stays that are not Qualified Stays do not qualify for Wyndham Rewards points, and Base Points are defined as points earned for completing a Qualified Stay or any variety of Discounted Nights with Points + Cash in accordance with the earning ratio in the chart in Section II(B)(5). [3]
  • Losing status and points. Fraud or abuse can lead to termination of the account and of the benefits attached to the member's current level. [3] An account with no activity for sixty consecutive months may be terminated, and points left in it are forfeited. [3] Points earned on the Wyndham Rewards Earner Premier Card do not expire under the four-year rule while that card account is open and in good standing. [3]

Frequently asked questions

What are the Wyndham Rewards member levels?

Blue, Gold, Platinum and Diamond are the four levels shown in the account panel. [1] Insider appears alongside them as a paid subscription rather than as one of the four. [1]

Do Gold, Platinum and Diamond members earn more points?

Yes. The terms define Accelerated Earning Points as points earned by a Gold, Platinum or Diamond member on a Qualified Stay. [3] The programme's headline rate is up to 10 points per dollar or 1,000 points, whichever is more, on a qualified stay. [1]

How many points does a free night cost?

Free nights require 7,500 to 30,000 points per bedroom per night depending on the property, and a member needs enough points for every bedroom booked. [1] [4]

Is Wyndham Rewards Business the same as personal status?

No. The personal programme terms do not apply to the Wyndham Rewards Business programme except where specifically incorporated into the business terms. [3]

Do Wyndham Rewards points expire?

Points expire four years after they are posted, and all points in an account may be cancelled or forfeited after about eighteen consecutive months without account activity. [3]
