How to transfer Avios between British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus
Avios transfers between British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus mean moving a balance out of a British Airways Club account into an Iberia Club or AerClub account, or moving it back the other way, using the transfer tool on ba.com. [4] British Airways says the value of the Avios stays the same and that the amount reaches the chosen account immediately after you confirm it. [4]

Key takeaways
- A British Airways Club member can move Avios to and from an Iberia Club or AerClub account by linking the two accounts, entering an amount and confirming; BA says the Avios land in the chosen account immediately. [4]
- BA's page for this route publishes no conversion ratio figure, no minimum, no maximum and no fee. [4] The explicit 1:1 rate, no fee and no minimum or maximum appear only in the separate British Airways–Qatar Airways Privilege Club linking terms. [7]
- Between British Airways Club, Iberia Club, AerClub, Loganair Loyalty and Vueling Club accounts, BA says you can transfer as often as you like. [4]
- On the British Airways side, transferring Avios is one of the actions that keeps a balance away from the 36-month rule: if a member has not collected, spent, purchased or transferred Avios for 36 consecutive months, all Avios expire. [6]
How the transfer works
British Airways sets out a single flow for the Iberia Club, AerClub, Loganair Loyalty and Vueling Club destinations: select the account you want to transfer Avios from, select the account you want to transfer them to, link the two frequent flyer accounts, enter the amount, then confirm. [4] The flow runs in either direction, so the British Airways Club account can be the source or the destination. [4] BA's own wording on the result is that the Avios "will be transferred to your chosen account immediately" after confirmation, and that "the value of your Avios will be the same". [4]
Once the accounts are linked, BA says you can transfer Avios between your British Airways Club, Iberia Club, AerClub, Loganair Loyalty and Vueling Club accounts as often as you like. [4] The same page lists Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Finnair Plus as further destinations with their own instructions, but this guide covers only the Iberia and Aer Lingus programmes named in its title. [4] No separate enrolment step, waiting period or eligibility test for the Iberia Club or AerClub route is published on that page. [4]
Ratios, minimums and timing
On timing, the published statement is limited to "immediately" after confirmation, with no separate processing window given for these programmes. [4] On amounts, BA publishes no conversion figure, no minimum and no maximum for Iberia Club or AerClub transfers. [4]
A separate arrangement between British Airways and Qatar Airways Privilege Club spells out these mechanics. Those terms, effective 29 January 2025, state that Avios are credited immediately at a rate of 1:1, that movements incur no fee, and that there is no minimum or maximum number of Avios, with limits reserved for suspected fraud. [7] Those figures are written for the Qatar route, so they cannot be assumed for Iberia Club or AerClub. [4] [7] The British Airways Club terms define the Conditions of Use as applying to certain British Airways Club propositions and as amendable from time to time, so check the current Conditions of Use on ba.com before confirming a transfer. [4] [6]
When you may not need to transfer
If the aim is an Iberia flight, moving Avios may not be necessary. British Airways says Avios can be used to fly with British Airways, Iberia, American Airlines and airlines within the oneworld alliance, and that Reward Flights can also be taken with Iberia, American Airlines and oneworld partners. [5] The difference BA flags for those partner bookings is that the cash amount covering taxes, fees and carrier charges is variable rather than the fixed amount used on its own Reward Flights. [5] Avios held in a British Airways Club account can therefore be spent on Iberia Reward Flights without being transferred first. [5]
Exceptions and limits
- Two different kinds of transfer. The British Airways Club terms define "Transfer Avios" as the ability to move Avios from one member to another, subject to the Conditions of Use. [6] That is separate from linking your own programme accounts, which is the process described on the transfer page. [4] [6]
- Fraud wording. BA's terms treat selling, bartering or purchasing Avios or rewards, including attempts to sell or transfer Avios through internet-based sales or auctions, as fraud. [6]
- One account each. A member may hold only one membership; where that rule is broken, all memberships other than the first approved are cancelled, together with any Avios in the cancelled accounts. [6] Avios are credited only to the member who travelled on the sector, not to a third party. [6]
- Household pooling is not a programme transfer. BA describes a household account as one that lets up to seven members of a household, including a maximum of six people under 18, earn Avios and redeem all or part of them for rewards for any one person in that household account and for no other individual; household account members can also redeem for up to five nominated people on a family and friends list. [6] BA's spending page lists pooling Avios with household members as one way to build a balance. [5] That arrangement sits inside the British Airways Club and is described separately from the Iberia Club and AerClub transfer route. [4] [6]
- Expiry and membership. If a member has not collected, spent, purchased or transferred Avios for 36 consecutive months, all Avios that have accrued expire, and BA's terms say membership terminates automatically when all Avios expire under that clause. [6] That 36-month rule is written into the British Airways Club terms. [6]
