GUIDE

How to tell Wyndham hotel brands apart

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is the hotel group behind brands such as Days Inn by Wyndham, La Quinta by Wyndham and Wyndham Grand, and it sorts those brands into extended-stay, economy, midscale, lifestyle, upscale and distinctive tiers on its own site [3] [4]. For a points stay, the brand tier matters less than two things: whether the property is a Wyndham Rewards Participating Hotel, and whether the booking meets the programme's Qualified Stay rules [2].

Key takeaways

  • Wyndham Hotels & Resorts presents 25 hotel brands across more than 95 countries, with 9,100+ hotels [4].
  • Wyndham Rewards earns on stays at "Participating Hotels", defined as the "By Wyndham" hotels and lodging facilities operating under a participating hotel chain, so the brand tier does not change the earning rule [2].
  • There are carve-outs: ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham does not participate in Wyndham Rewards, Travelodge properties outside the United States, Canada and Mexico are not part of the programme, and Wyndham Concorde Isla Margarita does not allow earning [2].
  • Even inside a participating brand, a stay earns only if it is a Qualified Stay, with nightly rates totalling at least US$25 and a booking made through an eligible channel [2].

How does Wyndham group its hotel brands?

Wyndham's own site describes the company as having 25 trusted hotel brands in more than 95 countries, with 9,100+ hotels [4]. Its navigation sorts those brands by the kind of stay each one is built for — extended stay, economy, midscale, lifestyle, upscale and distinctive — rather than presenting one flat list [3]. The table below follows that grouping and names the brands listed in each tier [3].

Extended stay is the tier where the shape of the room feeds straight into the earning rules: at WaterWalk Extended Stay by Wyndham, a Qualified Stay has to take place in a furnished suite [2]. The hotels site says it offers three distinct extended-stay brands [4]; ECHO Suites by Wyndham appears among the brands on that site [4], but the programme terms state that ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham hotels do not participate in Wyndham Rewards [2].

Which Wyndham brands count for Wyndham Rewards stays?

The terms do not switch earning on and off brand by brand or tier by tier. They define "Participating Hotels" as all "By Wyndham" hotels and other "By Wyndham" lodging facilities operating under a franchise, license or management agreement with a participating hotel chain at the time in question [2]. The participating chains named in the terms, effective 30 September 2026, include AmericInn by Wyndham, Baymont by Wyndham, Days Inn by Wyndham, Dazzler by Wyndham, Dolce Hotels and Resorts by Wyndham, Esplendor Boutique Hotels by Wyndham, Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham, Howard Johnson by Wyndham, La Quinta by Wyndham, Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham, Ramada by Wyndham, Registry Collection Hotels, Super 8 by Wyndham, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, Travelodge by Wyndham, TRYP by Wyndham, Vienna House by Wyndham, WaterWalk Extended Stay by Wyndham, Wingate by Wyndham, Wyndham Alltra, Wyndham Grand, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts and Wyndham Garden [2]. That list is subject to change at any time without notice [2].

Points can be earned through Qualified Stays at Participating Hotels, Participating Destinations and Participating Caesars Rewards Properties [2]. Three brand-level exceptions decide where you can earn. Hotels co-branded with both Trademark Collection by Wyndham and Caesars are not Participating Hotels and are treated as Participating Caesars Rewards Properties instead [2]. Wyndham Concorde Isla Margarita is not a Participating Hotel and does not allow earning of points or Travel Partner Currency [2]. And Travelodge properties outside the United States, Canada and Mexico are not owned or operated by, or otherwise affiliated with, Wyndham Rewards or Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, and do not participate in the programme [2].

What makes a Wyndham stay a Qualified Stay?

A Qualified Stay is built from four conditions in the terms [2]:

  • One property, consecutive nights. The member stays one or more consecutive nights at the same Participating Property and meets that property's minimum length-of-stay requirement, if it has one [2]. Checking out and back in on the same day at the same property counts as a single stay [2].
  • A minimum total rate of US$25. The nightly rates added together must reach at least US$25, excluding taxes, surcharges and other charges — except at Dolce Hotels and Resorts, Wyndham Grand, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts and Wyndham Garden, where those amounts are included [2].
  • An eligible booking channel. Stays at Participating Hotels must be booked through the Wyndham Rewards pages, wyndhamhotels.com, the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts app, the member services telephone line, the official brand website of the applicable chain, that chain's official (800) number, or on site at the property [2].
  • The right details at Caesars properties and destinations. At Participating Destinations and Participating Caesars Rewards Properties, the member gives the Wyndham Rewards number during the reservation and books via wyndhamrewards.com, wyndhamhotels.com, the app or member services; an online booking must be made on a website whose address includes "www.wyndhamhotels.com" [2].

Plenty of nights fall outside those conditions. The terms exclude contract rates such as airline crew rates, all third-party website, app and telephone bookings — Priceline, Hotwire, Booking.com, Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia are named — wholesale allotment and wholesale discount rates, non-revenue nights such as free nights, and the Points + Cash discounted nights described in the terms [2]. Apart from those Points + Cash forms, a stay that is not a Qualified Stay earns neither Wyndham Rewards points nor Travel Partner Currency [2].

How do the brands fit together when you redeem?

Points sit at programme level rather than being tied to the brand that earned them: members redeem for Free Nights, for Discounted Nights with Points + Cash, and for rewards from participating partner travel programmes, merchants and service providers [2]. Redemption requirements vary by property and can be as high as 30,000 points per bedroom, and a member needs enough points for every bedroom in the accommodation booked [3]. The cash portion of a discounted night varies by property and date, and taxes and resort fees may apply even on free nights and cannot be paid with points [3]. Redemptions are subject to availability, blackout dates and rates, and other restrictions [3].

Two boundaries are worth knowing. Some properties are redemption-only: Redemption Cottages, which the terms call Redemption Only Destinations, can be booked with points, but stays there do not earn points or Travel Partner Currency [2]. And the hotels site keeps vacation rentals, club resorts and condos — Club Wyndham, WorldMark by Wyndham, Shell Vacation Club and Margaritaville Vacation Club among them — in a separate section of its brand menu from the Hotels by Wyndham brands [3].

Points also have a shelf life whatever brand you stay with. Unless forfeited or cancelled earlier, they expire four years after the date they are posted to the account, and all accrued points may be cancelled or forfeited if the member has no account activity for approximately, but never less than, 18 consecutive months [2]. An account with no account activity for 60 consecutive months may be terminated, with all remaining points deemed forfeited [2].

Exceptions and limits

  • ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham hotels do not participate in the Wyndham Rewards programme at all [2].
  • The participating brand list, point values, redemption levels and member level benefits may all be changed at any time without notice [2].
  • The consumer terms do not apply to the Wyndham Rewards Business programme except where specifically incorporated, and members whose habitual residence is in China are subject to special terms set out in Section I(29) [2].
  • Brand and chain names are spelled out differently in places — the site lists Ramada Encore in its midscale tier, while the terms name Ramada by Wyndham among participating chains [3] [2] — so the property, not the label, is what you check before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Do all Wyndham brands earn Wyndham Rewards points?

No. ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham does not participate, Travelodge hotels outside the United States, Canada and Mexico are not part of the programme, and Wyndham Concorde Isla Margarita does not allow earning [2]. Elsewhere, earning follows the Participating Hotel and Qualified Stay definitions rather than the brand tier [2].

Does booking on a brand's own website count as an eligible booking?

Yes. The official brand website of the applicable participating hotel chain, and that chain's official (800) number, are listed alongside wyndhamhotels.com, the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts app and booking on site at the property [2].

Why did a cheap Wyndham stay earn nothing?

A Qualified Stay needs nightly rates totalling at least US$25, one or more consecutive nights at the same property, and a booking through an eligible channel [2]. Third-party bookings, contract rates, wholesale rates and free nights are excluded [2].

Can I earn at Caesars hotels that carry the Trademark Collection name?

Those co-branded properties are treated as Participating Caesars Rewards Properties rather than Participating Hotels, so the membership number must be given during the reservation and online bookings must be made on a wyndhamhotels.com address [2].
