FREQUENT FLYER GLOSSARY
What is a cruise loyalty qualifying cruise?
A cruise loyalty qualifying cruise is a sailing a passenger has actually completed and that the cruise line then credits to its own loyalty programme, so it is the voyage rather than the reservation that earns points or tier progress. [4] [5] [7] [8]

Key takeaways
- Credit attaches to a sailing that has been completed: Royal Caribbean International awards Crown & Anchor Society Cruise Points for each completed night of sailing and adds them to the account within 30 days after the cruise [4], while Celebrity Cruises posts Captain's Club Club Points after the sailing [5].
- Norwegian Cruise Line enrols a guest in Latitudes Rewards automatically after the first cruise [8], and Cunard World Club membership begins once a first Cunard voyage has been completed [7].
- Nights on board are the common counting unit: one Cruise Point per completed night at Royal Caribbean [4], one Latitudes point per cruise night at Norwegian [8], and a stateroom-based Club Point rate per night at Celebrity [5].
- Cunard World Club states its tier requirements in both voyages and nights, from 1 voyage at Silver to 15 voyages or 150 nights at Diamond [7].
How does a cruise become a qualifying cruise?
In cruise loyalty, the reservation is not the earning event. A deposit, a selected cabin or a date on the calendar changes nothing by itself; the credit is normally calculated on what was actually sailed — the nights spent on board, the stateroom occupied and the type of fare booked — and it is posted after the ship returns. Because each line defines its own counting unit, the same itinerary can produce a different amount of credit on different programmes.
Royal Caribbean International pays Crown & Anchor Society members one Cruise Point for each completed night of sailing, and Cruise Points are added to the member's account within 30 days after the cruise [4]. Celebrity Cruises calculates Captain's Club Club Points from the stateroom category and the number of nights sailed, and points are posted to the account after the sailing [5]. Norwegian Cruise Line enrols a guest in Latitudes Rewards automatically after the first cruise, after which the member earns 1 point for every cruise night [8]. Cunard opens Cunard World Club membership once a guest has completed a first voyage with the line, and the entry Silver tier asks for 1 voyage [7].
Do cruise lines count nights or voyages?
Both units are in use, and one programme can list them side by side. Crown & Anchor Society, Captain's Club and Latitudes Rewards all build their totals from nights on board, with adjustments for stateroom or booking type [4] [5] [8]. Cunard World Club publishes voyages and nights together as alternative measures of the same requirement [7].
| Programme | Counting unit | Credit for a completed sailing |
|---|---|---|
| Crown & Anchor Society (Royal Caribbean International) | Nights | 1 Cruise Point per completed night, plus an extra point per night in the listed suite categories and/or when sailing any category on a single pricing type for double-occupancy staterooms [4] |
| Captain's Club (Celebrity Cruises) | Nights | Club Points per night by stateroom category, from 2 per night in Inside & Ocean View up to 24 per night in an Iconic Suite on ocean cruises [5] |
| Latitudes Rewards (Norwegian Cruise Line) | Nights | 1 point per cruise night, plus 1 extra point per night for a full-fare suite or The Haven and 1 extra point per night on a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer [8] |
| Cunard World Club (Cunard) | Voyages or nights | Silver at 1 voyage; Gold at 2 voyages or 20 nights; Platinum at 7 voyages or 70 nights; Diamond at 15 voyages or 150 nights [7] |
Because Latitudes points accrue at one per night, Norwegian's published thresholds — from 1 point at Bronze through 350 points at Diamond to 700 points at Ambassador — are reached on a base of one point per cruise night plus any bonus points earned [8].
What changes the credit a completed sailing earns?
Stateroom category. At Celebrity, the same seven nights are worth different amounts depending on the cabin: 2 Club Points per night in Inside & Ocean View, 3 in Veranda & Infinite Veranda, 5 in Concierge Class & AquaClass, 8 in the Panoramic and Sky Suite group, 12 in Celebrity, Signature and Royal Suites, 18 in Edge Villa, Penthouse and Reflection Suite, and 24 in an Iconic Suite [5]. Galapagos and river cruises have their own per-night rates [5].
Suites and solo travel. Royal Caribbean adds an extra Cruise Point per night for suite accommodations in the categories it lists and for a solo traveller paying a single pricing type for a double-occupancy stateroom [4]. Norwegian adds 1 point per night for a full-fare suite or The Haven booked when the reservation was originally made, which excludes Club Balcony Suites, while its Insider Offer bonus excludes Suites and The Haven [8]. Celebrity gives double points to a solo traveller who books a stateroom and pays the full fare [5].
Bookings and activities that add points without a night on board. Celebrity's Power Up Points come from surveys, webinars and similar activities and convert at 10 Power Up Points to 1 Club Point, and members who opt into reduced housekeeping earn 1 extra night of points on the voyage [5]. Those add to a Club Point balance alongside cruises, but they are not themselves qualifying cruises.
Exceptions and limits
- Tiers reached mid-voyage. Royal Caribbean says that if a member reaches a new loyalty tier while onboard, the new benefits kick in on the next sailing rather than on the cruise that produced the points [4].
- Missing credit. Norwegian can credit a Latitudes Rewards account with missing points only for cruises taken within the last 12 months [8].
- Sailing length. Latitudes Rewards tier benefits are available on sailings of 5 nights or longer, while onboard discounts, including pre-booked shore excursions, apply on all sailings regardless of sail length [8].
- Different itineraries. Celebrity states that some itineraries and products may have different rules, and that Galapagos and river cruises can come with their own inclusions, so benefits may vary by sailing [5].
- Sending the credit elsewhere. Crown & Anchor Society members aged 18 and older may apply points earned on a sailing to Captain's Club or Venetian Society instead; a request can be submitted any time before the sailing and up to 14 days after disembarkation, the sailing must depart on or after 30 January 2026, and the member must already be enrolled in the programme receiving the points [4].
- Status without sailing. Members of Crown & Anchor Society, Captain's Club and Venetian Society receive one-for-one tier matching across the three Royal Caribbean Group brands, and Royal Caribbean asks for up to seven days for matched status to take effect [4] [5].
Frequently asked questions
Does a booked cruise count toward cruise loyalty status?
No. Royal Caribbean credits Cruise Points for each completed night of sailing and posts them within 30 days after the cruise [4]; Celebrity posts Club Points after the sailing [5]; and Norwegian enrols members in Latitudes Rewards after their first cruise [8].
How many points is a seven-night cruise worth?
It depends on the programme and the cabin. Latitudes Rewards pays 1 point per cruise night, so seven nights earn 7 points before any suite, The Haven or Insider Offer bonus [8]. Celebrity notes that the amount is based on the itinerary and is higher for elevated stateroom categories, posting to the account after the sailing [5].
Do cruise loyalty points expire once they are credited?
Crown & Anchor Society says its points never expire [4], and Celebrity states that once earned Club Points are in the account they do not expire [5].
Can the same cruise count toward a different brand's programme?
For Royal Caribbean Group brands, Crown & Anchor Society members aged 18 and older can direct points earned on a sailing to Captain's Club or Venetian Society, with requests accepted up to 14 days after disembarkation on sailings departing on or after 30 January 2026 [4].
What happens if a past sailing is missing from the account?
Norwegian can credit missing Latitudes Rewards points only for cruises taken within the last 12 months [8].
