PROGRAMME PROFILE
Flying Blue credit cards in France
Flying Blue credit cards in France are payment cards marketed to French residents that are linked to Flying Blue, the loyalty programme of Air France, KLM and Transavia. [4] This profile covers France-issued consumer cards only, and it sets out what the airlines' own pages do publish — the Miles and XP rules a cardholder would earn into, and the card names that appear on those sites — alongside the card terms those pages do not publish. [2] [6]

Key takeaways
- Any Miles a Flying Blue card produces land in the same account as flight Miles, and those Miles are earned on Air France-marketed flights at rates set by the member's level, from 4 Miles per euro for Explorer up to 9 for Ultimate. [3] [4]
- Level is earned with XP, not with Miles or card spending: the published maintenance thresholds are 100 XP for Silver, 180 XP for Gold and 300 XP for Platinum. [4]
- The Air France site carries an "Air France-KLM – American Express cards" link in its loyalty programme and partner navigation, and the KLM site lists an "Air France KLM Visa Signature®" card. [2] [6]
The programme the cards sit in
Flying Blue is the loyalty programme of Air France, KLM and Transavia and has five levels: Explorer, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Ultimate. [4] On flights marketed by Air France, Miles are earned per euro spent rather than per mile flown, and the rate rises with level: Explorer 4, Silver 6, Gold 7, Platinum 8 and Ultimate 9 Miles per euro. [3] [4] Award tickets do not earn Miles. [3]
Some tickets are scored differently. For Tour Operator fares and for Air France-operated flights marketed by Flying Blue partner airlines, the Air France page says earning is based on distance, the booking-class percentage and any Elite bonus, with minimum creditable distances of 500 miles on domestic flights and 750 miles on international ones. [3]
Status runs on a separate currency. The qualification period runs for up to 12 months from the first Mile or the first XP earned, and Elite members keep surplus XP above a threshold, capped at 300. [4] To hold a level, a member needs the minimum XP for it, which the programme lists as 100 for Silver, 180 for Gold and 300 for Platinum. [4] Holding Platinum for ten consecutive years makes the member Platinum for life. [4] Nothing on the programme's status page ties XP earning to card spending. [4]
Card names on the airlines' own sites
Two card brand names appear on the airlines' French and international pages. The Air France site lists "Air France-KLM – American Express cards" among its loyalty programme and partner links, alongside Flying Blue, Transavia, KLM and SkyTeam. [2] The KLM page on spending Miles lists "Air France KLM Visa Signature®" under its deals heading. [6] Separately, the published benefits of the Ultimate level include "one partner Flying Blue Platinum card". [4]
Spending Miles, whichever card earned them
Miles in a Flying Blue account can be used for reward tickets, and the programme publishes monthly promo rewards that discount them. [6] Taxes and carrier charges cannot be paid with Miles; they are paid separately when the booking is made. [6]
Cash & Miles works in both directions and carries a ceiling: cash can cover up to 25% of a reward ticket, and Miles can cover up to 25% of a regular flight ticket, with Miles earned only on the cash-paid portion of that ticket. [6] Miles can also buy an upgrade, a seat with more legroom or extra checked baggage, arranged at booking or afterwards through My Trip. [6] Members can send Miles to another Flying Blue member, arriving within 72 hours, for a fee that depends on the number of Miles sent, or donate them to charity. [6]
Exceptions and limits
- Card benefits are programme-specific. WestJet Rewards in Canada attaches tier qualifying spend to a co-brand card: holders of the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard receive the equivalent of CAD 200 in tier qualifying spend for every $5,000 of eligible purchases, up to 50 times a qualifying year, credited to the primary cardholder only, and the account must be open and in good standing when the benefit is awarded. [5]
- No earning on award tickets. Miles are not credited when the ticket itself is booked with Miles, so a card earning Miles on a Flying Blue reward booking should not be assumed to add programme Miles from the flight. [3]
- Caps and charges. The 25% ceilings on Cash & Miles, the exclusion of taxes and carrier charges from Miles payment, and the fee on member-to-member transfers all apply regardless of how the Miles were earned. [6]
- The Ultimate companion card. The "partner Flying Blue Platinum card" is listed as a benefit of the Ultimate level; the source does not describe its terms, issuer or whether it is a credit card. [4]
