Kenya Airways Simba Lounge: What the Sources Do and Do Not Cover

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • SkyTeam publishes an alliance-wide lounge framework for Elite Plus members and for First and Business Class customers, covering same-day international journeys on SkyTeam member airlines and admitting those customers at departure and transfer airports only, not on arrival. [2]
  • SkyTeam warns that lounge access may vary by airline and sends readers to its lounge finder for the detail of an individual lounge. [2]

Alliance-level access framework

SkyTeam says it aims to offer lounge access to Elite Plus, First and Business Class customers, and that reservations are not required. [2] Elite Plus members are admitted regardless of the cabin they fly, provided they are travelling on a same-day international flight operated by a SkyTeam member airline, or on same-day transfers between flights — domestic or international — operated by two SkyTeam members. [2]

Under that policy, access is given at the departure airport and, for connecting customers, at the point of transfer; it is not given on arrival at the destination. [2] Customers may use the lounge from at least three hours before their flight's scheduled departure, and must present a boarding pass — and, for Elite Plus, a valid membership card — to the lounge agent for validation before admission. [2]

Domestic itineraries are narrower. A customer flying domestically must be connecting from a domestic flight to an international one, or from a domestic flight to another domestic flight and onwards to an international one, and a domestic-only itinerary reaches select lounges only. [2] SkyTeam dates the domestic benefit to 1 April 2025 and describes it as available at select member airline lounges, with more than 70 lounges reachable on domestic itineraries at the time of its statement and gradual extension planned. [2]

All of this is an alliance-level statement by SkyTeam; it does not name Kenya Airways lounges or confirm which of them participate. [2]

What the sources do and do not cover

The second source is an earning table rather than a lounge document. Vietnam Airlines' Lotusmiles programme lists Kenya Airways (KQ) flights as eligible for mileage accrual, with rates by booking class taking effect from 15 April 2025, and counts KQ-coded flights as eligible when they are operated by Vietnam Airlines or by airlines in the SkyTeam alliance. [3] It says nothing about lounges, admission or ground benefits. [3]

Across the two sources, no individual Kenya Airways lounge is named, no airport is identified — neither Nairobi nor an outstation — and no opening hours, capacity, or airside versus landside position is stated. [2] [3]

Guests, paid entry and status interplay

For SkyTeam lounges, an Elite Plus member may invite one guest, and that guest must be travelling on the same SkyTeam member-operated flight, irrespective of their preceding and onward flights; the guest's boarding pass is presented to the lounge agent for validation. [2]

SkyTeam states that lounge access cannot currently be purchased through skyteam.com. [2]

Status interplay is described at alliance level only: SkyTeam Elite Plus is the tier it names as carrying the lounge benefit irrespective of cabin. [2]

Exceptions and limits

  • Access may vary by airline, and SkyTeam directs customers to its lounge finder for the detail of each individual lounge. [2]
  • Delta Sky Club rules are written differently for Delta's own members: complimentary access is no longer extended to SkyMiles Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members flying Main Cabin or Delta Comfort+ internationally, and from 1 January 2024 SkyMiles members in Basic Economy or equivalent partner cabins have no access there; SkyTeam says Elite Plus members of other member programmes are not affected and that third-party lounges are excluded. [2] Those carve-outs are framed for Delta SkyMiles members, not for Asante Rewards members. [2]
  • SkyTeam's definition of international travel excludes journeys between the United States and the Caribbean. [2]
  • Separate domestic lounge access policies may apply to members of Aerolineas Argentinas' Aerolineas Plus and of Delta's SkyMiles. [2]
  • The access policy for Virgin Atlantic's Clubhouse at London Heathrow Terminal 3 sits on virginatlantic.com rather than in SkyTeam's general rules. [2]
  • SkyTeam reserves the right to revise its house rules without notice. [2]
