Sonesta Travel Pass: tiers, points and redemption
Sonesta Travel Pass is the free-to-join guest loyalty programme of Sonesta International Hotels Corporation, which Sonesta describes as covering 13 brands and more than 1,100 hotels. [1] [2] Members earn points on qualifying room revenue and on some partner purchases, and move through four published tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum — on qualified nights or points in a year. [2] Sonesta says the programme earned a USA Today 10 Best Readers' Choice 2025 award for Best Hotel Loyalty Program. [1]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Four tiers are published: enrolment starts a member at Bronze, then Silver at 10 qualified nights or 10,000 points, Gold at 20 nights or 20,000 points and Platinum at 40 nights or 40,000 points a year. [2]
- The published base rate is 10 points per US$1 of qualifying room revenue, falling to 5 points per US$1 at Sonesta Simply Suites, Americas Best Value Inn, Canadas Best Value Inn and Signature Inn. [2]
- A free night starts at 10,000 points depending on the hotel's tier, and can be booked online by choosing "Rewards Points" at checkout or by phone with Customer Care. [2]
- Points are earned and redeemed only at participating hotels in a listed set of countries, and stays booked through online agencies such as Expedia or Hotels.com earn no benefits at all. [2]
Tiers and status
Sonesta presents the tier table as qualified nights or points per year, with Bronze requiring zero nights or zero points. [2] The FAQ states the same ladder in nights per calendar year: ten qualified nights for Silver, twenty for Gold and forty for Platinum. [2] Status earned in any calendar year remains in place through the end of the following calendar year. [2]
Advertised perks include premium Wi-Fi, complimentary continental breakfast, room upgrades, early check-in and late checkout, member-only rates and offers, tier bonus multipliers and elite member-only experiences. [2]
Two shortcuts sit outside the nights-and-points ladder. Sonesta matches status held in other hotel loyalty programmes to Silver, Gold or Platinum; a member enrols, then sends Customer Care their Travel Pass member ID plus a current membership card or statement from the other programme. [2] Separately, members booking the Military and Veterans Appreciation Rate with promo code MILR are upgraded to Gold, on a rate intended for leisure travel and with active-duty government or military identification required at check-in. [2]
Earning points
On qualifying room revenue a member earns 10 points per US$1, or currency equivalent, incurred and paid by the member. [2] The rate is 5 points per US$1 at Sonesta Simply Suites, Americas Best Value Inn, Canadas Best Value Inn and Signature Inn. [2] The reservation must carry the member's Travel Pass number, and points post the day after checkout. [2]
Partner activity earns at a similar rate. Tours and activities booked through Viator, and sports, concert and show tickets bought through Travel Pass Live Access powered by TFL, each earn 5 points per US$1 spent, with programme terms applying. [1] [2] Egypt cruises earn 5 points per US$1 on the room rate, and Planner Perks pays 2 points per US$1 on qualifying business spend on guest rooms, meeting rooms, catering and in-house A/V at hotels in the Sonesta family of brands. [2]
Redeeming points
A free night starts at 10,000 points, with the actual price set by the hotel's tier. [2] To book, a member signs in, picks a room, sees the points needed displayed beneath the cash price, and selects "Rewards Points" at checkout; the same redemption can be made by phone with Customer Care. [2] The page lists free stays and gift cards as the uses for points. [2]
Members also get member-only rates, which Sonesta describes as its best available rates when booking on Sonesta.com or by phone. [2] The corporate homepage advertises savings of up to 10% off best available rates for members using promo code TPMEM. [1]
Exceptions and limits
- Third-party bookings earn nothing. Reservations through online agencies such as Expedia, Hotels.com, Travelocity, Orbitz, Priceline or Hotwire are not eligible for any Travel Pass benefits, and neither are group reservations or bookings through a wholesaler, charter company or airline contract. [2] Voucher, barter, travel industry rates and award stays are also non-qualifying rates. [2]
- What counts as a qualified night. Most rates qualify when booked directly on Sonesta.com or through the call centre, but day use with the same arrival and departure date, some group rates, contract and wholesale rates, third-party sites and some other discounts do not; the full list sits in the programme terms. [2]
- Geography. Points are earned and redeemed at participating hotels in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and St. Maarten only. [2]
- One account per person. Membership cannot be shared: the name on the reservation must match the name on the account and each traveller must enrol separately, although a free reward night may be transferred to an immediate family member. [2]
- Retroactive credit. Membership begins on the enrolment date, but Sonesta will consider stays up to 30 days before enrolment if the member asks within 60 days of enrolling through Customer Care. [2]
- Partner perks. ClassPass and Shell Fuel Rewards offers come from third parties and carry their own terms; Sonesta describes a one-month ClassPass trial with extra credits and, through Shell Fuel Rewards, savings of 10¢, 20¢ or 30¢ per gallon on the first three fills plus what it calls complimentary Gold Status savings of 5¢ per gallon on every fill through 2026.
