How to get AAdvantage status match and Instant Status Pass

How does the Instant Status Pass trial work?

Instant Status Pass is the promotion American runs behind an approved status match. [2] A member whose documentation is accepted is registered for the promotion and holds the matched AAdvantage tier for four months. [2] Within that window the member must earn a Loyalty Point goal to continue with the tier's benefits and move on to the next phase. [2] American describes three goals in total: once all three are met, the member qualifies for status for the rest of the membership year. [2] Details of each phase arrive in the member's AAdvantage account and the email address linked to it. [2]

The matched tier behaves like ordinary AAdvantage status, and American notes that benefits may not be available on all flights or may vary by flight. [3] For context, tiers are qualified on Loyalty Points earned in the 12-month period beginning 1 March each year, and status normally runs from the moment it is reached through 31 March of the following full year, unless American determines otherwise. [4] Those AAdvantage terms are effective 1 March 2026. [4]

Which competitor statuses does American match?

American matches the status on the applicant's competing account with the equivalent AAdvantage tier. As of 18 October 2026 the published table reads: [2]

Not every tier has a match. American's table shows no Executive Platinum match for JetBlue TrueBlue or Southwest Rapid Rewards members, and no Platinum Pro match for Southwest members. [2] The offer covers only members of these four programmes who met the full status qualification requirements for the status they hold. [2]

What must you earn to keep the matched status?

One Loyalty Point target applies to each tier for the first four months of the promotion. [2]

Meeting the target continues that tier's benefits and moves the member to the next phase, where another goal applies; American says the detail follows once the member is enrolled. [2] Loyalty Points are the measure used for status qualification, and eligible miles that a member earns also earn Loyalty Points. [3] Only Base Miles earn Loyalty Points, while Bonus Miles do not. [4] Miles from Buy Miles, Gift Miles and Transfer Miles transactions, from AAdvantage offers, and from converting another programme's currency into AAdvantage miles are Bonus Miles, so they do not count toward a goal. [4] American may remove Loyalty Points and reverse any status they triggered where an accrual becomes invalid, for example when a qualifying purchase is cancelled or returned, or where the points were obtained fraudulently. How do you apply, and what proof does American ask for?

Applicants must be current AAdvantage members in good standing and current status members of one of the four competing programmes, and the first and last name on the competing membership card must match the name on the AAdvantage account. [2] The request goes through American's linked form with screenshots of the competing account. [2] American lists these documents:

• Southwest Rapid Rewards: the Account Summary showing first and last name, the A-List status expiration and the Rapid Rewards number. [2]
• JetBlue TrueBlue: the name from the 'My Activity' tracker, plus the TrueBlue number, status and status end date from the dashboard. [2]
• Delta SkyMiles: the SkyMiles overview showing name, status and status tracker, plus the current membership card with its expiration date. [2]
• United MileagePlus: first and last name, the Premier Activity Previous Year and Premier Activity Year to Date, plus the current membership card with its expiration date. [2]

American asks applicants to allow at least four weeks for AAdvantage Customer Service to review a submission. [2] Once the documentation is verified, the Instant Status Pass terms are made available in the member's AAdvantage account, and additional promotion terms apply after registration; all promotions sit under the AAdvantage programme terms and conditions. Exceptions and limits

• The offer is open for a limited time, and American may change, stop or end it at any time and without notice. [2]
• American decides in its sole discretion whether submitted documentation is acceptable, may deny any request for any reason, and may ask for further documents to verify eligibility. [2]
• Members who already hold the equivalent or a higher AAdvantage tier are not eligible, and neither are members who registered for Instant Status Pass in the last two years. [2]
• Status that was matched, transferred, gifted as lifetime status or granted promotionally in the competing programme does not qualify; only status earned under that programme's full qualification requirements does. [2]
• Fraudulent or forged documentation may result in termination of the AAdvantage account. [2]
• The trial tier brings the published benefits of that tier, but American states that benefits may not be available on all flights or may vary by flight. [3]
