How to understand Asiana Club status tiers, qualification and benefits

Asiana Club is the frequent flyer programme of Asiana Airlines, a Star Alliance member, and from 17 December 2026 its elite tiers — Gold, Diamond and Diamond Plus — are matched into Korean Air's SKYPASS programme when the two mileage schemes are integrated. [3] [4] Every Asiana member is given a Korean Air tier matching the Asiana tier held on the integration date, and the validity period earned by qualifying with Asiana is kept in the matched tier. [3]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • The elite tiers named in Asiana Club's integration terms are Gold, Diamond and Diamond Plus, and all three are described as term-based tiers carrying a 24-month term. [3]
  • Asiana Club membership terms remain in force until the day before 17 December 2026, when Korean Air's SKYPASS membership terms, mileage transaction service terms and the Asiana mileage general terms take effect. [3]
  • Status is protected at the handover: members receive a Korean Air tier matching their Asiana tier, and a second evaluation under Korean Air's elite criteria follows once their Asiana mileage is fully converted. [3]
  • Consent to third-party sharing with SkyTeam and to international data transfer is required; without it, earning and redeeming miles and elite status benefits are restricted on or after 17 December 2026. [3]

What tiers does Asiana Club have?

The integration terms name three elite levels: Gold, Diamond and Diamond Plus. [3] Diamond Plus, Diamond and Gold are described as term-based elite members with a 24-month term, and the validity period a member is granted on qualifying with Asiana is maintained in the Korean Air tier they are matched to. [3] Status validity and mileage validity run on separate clocks, so the two are worth reading apart. [3]

Asiana mileage keeps the validity period it already has under the Asiana Club programme. [3] Mileage that has already expired is forfeited, cannot be used, and cannot have its validity period extended. [3]

What happens to Asiana Club status on 17 December 2026?

The mileage integration plan for Korean Air and Asiana Airlines was finalised after approval by the Fair Trade Commission, and the integrated programme takes effect on 17 December 2026, with each programme operating independently during the subsidiary phase before that. [3] Asiana Club membership terms stay effective until the day before the integration date; from 17 December 2026 the integrated Korean Air terms apply instead. [3]

On the integration date, all Asiana members are granted a Korean Air membership tier that matches the Asiana tier they hold, and term-based elites keep the validity period they earned. [3] A re-evaluation follows at the point when the former Asiana mileage is fully converted — either because the member applies for conversion or because the separate Asiana mileage operation period ends. [3] That evaluation uses Korean Air's elite qualification criteria applied to a combined record of Asiana-operated flights and existing Korean Air elite qualification miles, and a higher tier is granted where the combined record produces one. [3]

Continued use of mileage benefits after the change depends on consent to third-party sharing with SkyTeam and to international data transfer; members who do not consent have earning and redeeming of miles and elite status benefits restricted on or after 17 December 2026. [3] Asiana Club members already registered with Korean Air SKYPASS do not need to give separate consent. [3]

How are Asiana Club miles earned by booking class?

Miles are earned according to the reservation class marked on the ticket purchased. [4] The published Asiana Airlines accrual table, as of 13 October 2026, is below. [4]

Tickets discounted at 50% or more off the regular fare are not eligible for mileage accrual. [4] Where an upgrade award is used, mileage accrues on the class of ticket the member purchased rather than the cabin flown. [4] Domestic R class moved from 100% to 0% with effect from 5 November 2021. [4]

How can Asiana miles be used after integration?

Asiana mileage is used through a dedicated Asiana mileage page on the Korean Air website and only for the redemption options Korean Air offers: award tickets on Korean Air flights, seat upgrade awards, the Cash and Miles service, and non-flight awards such as shopping. [3] Mileage is in principle for the member's own use, but it can be transferred between registered family members or pooled to cover a shortfall through Korean Air's family plan, with eligibility taken from the Korean Air SKYPASS record. [3] The family scope covers spouse, parents, children, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, parents-in-law, son-in-law and daughter-in-law. [3] Family pooling is defined in the frequent flyer glossary.

Conversion into Korean Air SKYPASS mileage happens only when the member applies for it, covers the entire balance, and cannot be reversed. [3] The ratio is 1:1 for flown mileage and 1:0.82 for partner mileage, and the converted balance keeps its original validity period. [3] Any Asiana mileage remaining when the separate-operation terms end is converted collectively at the same ratios. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Earning stops at integration. Asiana mileage is not accrued after the Full Integration Date, except for mileage from Asiana flights taken or partner services used before the merger that is credited afterwards, award seats bought from Asiana before the merger and refunded afterwards, and any other cases Korean Air announces individually. [3]
  • Expired mileage stays expired. Mileage that has already expired is forfeited and cannot be used, extended or converted into Korean Air SKYPASS mileage. [3]
  • Declining the updated terms. A member who does not agree to the new terms may terminate the membership contract within three months of the notice dated 15 September 2026 by contacting the regional Asiana Airlines reservation centre in Korea, Japan, China or the US; no request in that window is treated as acceptance, and termination cancels membership with any remaining Asiana Club miles expiring under the existing Asiana Club terms. [3]
  • Declining the data transfer. A member who does not want their personal information transferred must notify the same regional reservation centre by 16 December 2026; declining cancels membership, with remaining Asiana mileage usable until cancellation and expiring when the account closes. [3]
  • Scope. This guide covers Asiana Club tiers and the tier-matching rules that take effect at integration, plus Asiana Airlines' own accrual rates. [3] [4] Korean Air SKYPASS's own qualification thresholds, and the benefits individual Star Alliance partner airlines extend to Asiana Club or SKYPASS elites, are outside it. [3] [4]

Frequently asked questions

Will my Asiana Club tier carry over to Korean Air?

Yes. Every Asiana member is granted a Korean Air membership tier matching the Asiana tier held on 17 December 2026, and term-based elites keep the validity period they earned with Asiana. [3]

Can I move only part of my Asiana miles to Korean Air SKYPASS?

No. Conversion takes place only when the member applies and covers the whole balance, and mileage already converted cannot be changed back to Asiana mileage. [3]

Do Asiana miles expire at integration?

They keep the validity period already set under the Asiana Club programme; mileage that has expired by then is forfeited and cannot be extended or converted. [3]

Do I have to re-qualify for status after integration?

A re-evaluation happens when the Asiana mileage is fully converted, using Korean Air's elite criteria against a combined record of Asiana-operated flights and Korean Air elite qualification miles; a higher tier is granted if that record produces one. [3]

What happens if I decline the data-sharing consent?

Earning and redeeming miles, and elite status benefits, are restricted on or after 17 December 2026 for members who do not consent to third-party sharing with SkyTeam and international data transfer. [3]
