Combining your own cards vs sharing with someone else

Combining points and sharing points are different operations. Combining concerns points earned on more than one card you hold. Sharing concerns whether another person can use or receive your points. A second card in your own name raises the first question; a partner or family member drawing on your balance raises the second.

Two details change what you are actually doing. The first is whether the other person is an authorized user on your account or a cardholder in their own right — those are not the same arrangement. The second is what happens when a card leaves the picture: card cancellation is a distinct event from closing the account, and it is worth understanding before you consolidate a balance onto one card.
