How to use Delta SkyMiles Reserve lounge access

This page addresses the Delta Sky Club entry that readers ask about in connection with the US-issued Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business American Express cards.

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • The Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express card page on delta.com returned a page-not-found response when checked, so the card's own benefit terms are not among the sources for this guide. [1]
  • SkyMiles programme rules make Delta Sky Club and Delta One Lounge house rules binding on members, and a serious breach is grounds for terminating SkyMiles membership and losing accumulated mileage. [3]
  • Buying a Delta Sky Club membership, or buying food and drink inside a Sky Club, earns neither miles nor Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs). [3] [6]
  • MQD Headstart and MQD Boost affect Medallion Status rather than club entry. [6] [4]

What is published about Sky Club entry

Because of that gap, this page does not state how many guests a cardholder may bring into a club, whether those guests must be travelling on the same reservation or on a Delta flight, how many visits a card includes in a card year, whether a same-day Delta ticket is required for entry, whether the allowance changes with the fare class booked, or whether the business version of the card differs from the consumer version. [1] [3] [6] Readers who need those terms should take them from the current card terms and the club's own published rules rather than from a secondary summary. [3]

What is documented is that the club's rules are binding. Delta reserves the right to terminate a member's SkyMiles membership — including Medallion Status, Million Miler qualification and 360 Program participation — where the member violates the Membership Guide and Program Rules, the contract of carriage, fare rules, the "Delta Sky Club or Delta One Lounge House Rules", or other Delta rules that apply to the member's travel. [3] Termination brings loss of all accumulated mileage credit, cancellation of unused award tickets and upgrade certificates, and loss of other SkyMiles benefits, and a terminated member may not open a new account. [3] In short, behaviour inside a club is treated as part of the same rulebook as the rest of the programme. [3]

What the cards are documented to do

From 1 January 2024, Basic Card Members earn one MQD for each $10 of eligible purchases charged to a Delta SkyMiles Reserve or Reserve Business American Express card, including purchases on additional cards on the account. [6] The same rate applies when earning MQDs towards extending a matched status through the Status Match Challenge. [4]

Basic Card Members of either card also receive an MQD Headstart of 2,500 MQDs deposited into the linked SkyMiles account in each Qualification Year; additional card members are not eligible. [6] A member may receive one $2,500 deposit per eligible card type in a Medallion Qualification Year and no more than four deposits in total across all eligible cards, a maximum of $10,000 MQDs. [6] A member who upgrades from a Platinum or Platinum Business card to a Reserve or Reserve Business card does not receive an extra $2,500 deposit for the Reserve card. [6] MQDs reset to zero on or about 1 January each year and do not roll over. [6]

The same pages mark out what does not count. Delta Sky Club memberships and Delta Sky Club food and beverage purchases are on the list of ancillary purchases that earn no miles and no MQDs. [3] [6] A club membership bought with cash therefore does nothing for status, and neither does a drink bought inside the club. [3]

Exceptions and limits

  • Which version of the rules applies. Unless otherwise stated, the rules in effect at the time of travel or at the time a benefit or other transaction is requested govern that transaction, and all SkyMiles benefits are conditioned on the member accepting and complying with rules that are subject to change at any time. [3]
  • Scope of this page.
  • Headstart is capped and tiered by card. Only Basic Card Members qualify, the deposit is limited to one per eligible card type and four in total per Medallion Qualification Year, and an upgrade between eligible card types does not create a second deposit. [6]
  • Status pages are silent on entry. The Status Match Challenge and Million Miler pages describe MQD earning and lifetime recognition without setting out Sky Club entry conditions. [4] [5]
