COMPARISON
Hotel loyalty coverage: Marriott vs IHG vs Wyndham
Hotel loyalty coverage is the published reach of a hotel group's loyalty programme — the brands it includes and the places where those brands' hotels take part. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts publishes 25 brands, 95 countries and 9,100+ hotels behind Wyndham Rewards [9], IHG Hotels & Resorts presents 21 hotel brands and 7,000+ global destinations behind IHG One Rewards [4], and Marriott Bonvoy's programme terms list participating brands alongside named properties and categories that take part only in a limited capacity [2].

Key takeaways
- The three groups publish reach in different units: Wyndham in countries and hotels [9], IHG in destinations and brands [4], and Marriott Bonvoy as a brand list with named limited-participation categories [2].
- Geographic limits usually appear as named exceptions rather than whole regions: Travelodge hotels outside the United States, Canada and Mexico do not take part in Wyndham Rewards [7], and the Iberostar Beachfront Resorts portfolio linked to IHG One Rewards excludes any interests in Cuba [4].
- A brand being inside the programme does not mean every hotel of that brand takes part: Marriott Bonvoy excludes all Bulgari Hotels and Resorts locations and names individual non-participating hotels in London, Houston, Bangkok, Singapore and Rio de Janeiro [2].
What footprint does each programme publish?
| Programme | What the operator publishes | Brands named |
|---|---|---|
| Marriott Bonvoy | Participating brands, plus named properties and categories that participate only in a limited or unique capacity [2] | AC Hotels, Courtyard, Fairfield by Marriott, Moxy, JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and W Hotels among others [2] |
| IHG One Rewards | 21 hotel brands and 7,000+ global destinations [4] | Six Senses, Regent, InterContinental, Kimpton, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express among others [4] |
| Wyndham Rewards | 25 brands, 95 countries and 9,100+ hotels [9]; the programme site also cites more than 8,000 hotels worldwide [8] | Super 8, Days Inn, La Quinta, Ramada, Wyndham and Wyndham Grand among others [9] |
IHG Hotels & Resorts describes its brand family as 21 hotel brands serving 7,000+ global destinations [4], and presents its beachfront alliance with Iberostar Beachfront Resorts as holiday options across four continents where IHG One Rewards points can be earned and redeemed [4].
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts states 25 brands, 95 countries and 9,100+ hotels [9], while the Wyndham Rewards programme page describes booking at more than 8,000 hotels worldwide [8]. Those statements count hotels and countries, so they cannot be lined up against IHG's destination count [4] [9].
Marriott Bonvoy's programme terms, updated October 2026, publish the participating brands and a separate account of hotels, collections and residences with limited or no participation [2].
How do the brand segments compare?
IHG sorts its brands into five collections: Luxury & Lifestyle (Six Senses, Regent, InterContinental, Vignette Collection, Kimpton and Hotel Indigo); Premium (voco, Crowne Plaza, Ruby, EVEN Hotels and HUALUXE); Essentials (Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Resort, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn - the niu, Garner and avid hotels); Suites (Atwell Suites, Staybridge Suites, Holiday Inn Club Vacations and Candlewood Suites); and an Exclusive Alliances group containing Iberostar Beachfront Resorts [4].
Wyndham's brand menu runs from extended stay (Hawthorn Extended Stay, WaterWalk Extended Stay) through economy (Days Inn, Super 8, Microtel, Howard Johnson and Travelodge) and midscale (La Quinta, Wingate, Wyndham Garden, AmericInn, Baymont and Ramada) to lifestyle (TRYP, Esplendor, Dazzler, Vienna House and Wyndham Alltra), upscale (Wyndham and Trademark Collection) and distinctive (Registry Collection Hotels, Dolce Hotels & Resorts and Wyndham Grand), alongside vacation rentals, club resorts and Caesars Rewards properties [9].
Marriott Bonvoy's terms name participating brands individually, from AC Hotels, Aloft, Courtyard, Fairfield by Marriott and Moxy through to JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection and W Hotels [2]. The same terms set out categories with limited or unique participation, including All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy resorts, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Marriott Vacation Clubs [2]. Which places and properties are left out?
Wyndham Rewards. Travelodge properties outside the United States, Canada and Mexico are not owned, operated or otherwise affiliated with Wyndham and do not take part in the programme [7]. Echo Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham hotels do not take part, and Wyndham Concorde Isla Margarita is not a participating hotel [7]. Points can also be earned at named Caesars Rewards properties, which the terms list individually [7].
IHG One Rewards. Benefits are generally available at all IHG hotels and resorts and other partner hotels taking part, with stated exceptions [4]. At Six Senses hotels, resorts and spas, points may be earned or redeemed while other benefits may not be available, and some hotels do not take part [4]. Not all Iberostar Beachfront Resorts take part, and the portfolio excludes any interests in Cuba [4]. Ruby hotels are being integrated into IHG One Rewards from 2026, so participation is confirmed hotel by hotel [4].
Marriott Bonvoy. The terms list brands and properties that do not take part, including all Bulgari Hotels and Resorts locations, City Express Rio de Janeiro Barra da Tijuca, Grand Residences by Marriott Mayfair-London, the Marriott Conference Centers Rotary House Hotel in Houston, Marriott Vacation Club at The Empire Place in Bangkok, The Marriott Ranch Bed and Breakfast, and The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore [2]. In the Bahamas, members may earn points on room rate only and redeem at The Coral at Atlantis, The Royal at Atlantis and The Cove at Atlantis, while The Reef at Atlantis, The Beach at Atlantis and Harborside at Atlantis do not take part [2]. Branded residences do not take part unless named, and three are named: Marriott Residences Salgados Resort in the Algarve, The Phoenician Residences in Scottsdale and The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Waikiki Beach [2].
Exceptions and limits
- A published list is not a live property count: Marriott may update, add, remove or modify participating properties and brands at any time, and once a property exits, members no longer earn points or Qualifying Nights for Elite Status there and awards stop being valid after the exit date [2].
- Wyndham's terms state that the participating hotel list is subject to change at any time without notice, and that Wyndham may modify the participation of earning or rewards partners [7].
- Being inside the footprint does not guarantee an award room: Wyndham free nights require 7,500–30,000 points, and blackout dates, rates and other restrictions apply [9].
- Benefits can differ within one brand: at some Six Senses hotels, IHG One Rewards points can be earned or redeemed while other member benefits may not be available [4].
Frequently asked questions
Which programme has the widest published geographic coverage?
No single figure settles it. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts publishes 95 countries and 9,100+ hotels [9], while IHG Hotels & Resorts publishes 7,000+ destinations across 21 brands [4]. Because one counts countries and hotels and the other counts destinations, the two statements cannot be ranked directly against each other [4] [9].
Is every hotel under a participating brand part of the programme?
No. Travelodge hotels in the United States, Canada and Mexico take part in Wyndham Rewards, while Travelodge properties outside those three countries do not [7]. In Marriott Bonvoy, Bulgari Hotels and Resorts locations are excluded even though other luxury brands are participating brands [2].
Which Marriott hotels in the Bahamas accept Bonvoy points?
Members may earn points on room rate only and redeem at The Coral at Atlantis, The Royal at Atlantis and The Cove at Atlantis [2]. The Reef at Atlantis, The Beach at Atlantis and Harborside at Atlantis do not take part in the programme [2].
Where can I check whether one specific hotel takes part?
For Ruby hotels during the 2026 integration, IHG directs guests to the individual hotel website for participation information [4]. Wyndham's terms direct members to the Wyndham Rewards website or member services to locate a property in the place they want to visit [7].
