COURSE

Start here: TAP Miles&Go — join, earn, redeem, keep your miles and reach status

TAP Miles&Go is the loyalty programme of TAP Air Portugal, in which mileage credit is assigned for flights taken with TAP and partner airlines and for services purchased from other programme partners [1]. Joining the programme is free [1]. This six-step course takes a new member from enrolment through earning, spending and keeping miles to the Silver, Gold and Navigator tiers, and points to the Flyerfolio guides that cover each step in depth.

Facts checked: 19 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • The course runs in six steps: what the programme is, joining, earning, using miles, keeping miles and reaching status, and a first concrete action.
  • Two counters exist side by side: Bonus Miles, which can be used to issue Award Tickets and to make redemptions, and Status Miles, which count only towards Silver, Gold and Navigator [1].
  • Mileage required for Award Tickets is variable and the programme does not use fixed pricing; it changes with supply and demand, seat availability and advance purchase [1].
  • Miles are valid for three years from the date of the activity unless otherwise specified, and some Bonus Miles are valid for one year [1].
  • The terms were originally written in Portuguese and are translated into English; only the Portuguese version is binding [1].

What you will be able to do after this course

  • Tell Bonus Miles and Status Miles apart, and say which one you can spend.
  • Enrol correctly, including the email and name rules that keep credit arriving automatically.
  • Read a fare's bonus factor and work out when a flight or a partner service will not accrue.
  • Plan around award validity, expiry and refund rules, and check your own progress towards Silver, Gold or Navigator.

Step 1: What TAP Miles&Go is and who it suits

You will learn: what the programme credits, why the price of an award is never fixed, and who the programme fits.

TAP Miles&Go is described as a loyalty programme for TAP Air Portugal customers, consisting of assigning mileage credit based on flights taken with TAP and partner airlines, or on services purchased from other programme partners [1]. Joining is free, and the customer may accrue miles to use later on Award Tickets or on other services and benefits [1]. The values of Award Tickets are variable: the number of miles required varies according to supply and demand, seat availability and advance purchase, and the programme does not use fixed pricing for Award Tickets [1].

The terms were originally written in Portuguese and translated into English, French, Spanish and German, and only the Portuguese version is binding [1]. The programme is subject to Portuguese law, with the exclusive place of jurisdiction being the courts of the district of Lisbon [1].

The programme suits travellers who fly TAP Air Portugal, where Bonus Miles and Status Miles can both be earned, or Star Alliance member airlines, whose flights earn Status Miles [1].

Step 2: How to join

You will learn: where the enrolment form sits, who is eligible, and which account and card rules apply from day one.

Membership is obtained by signing up with the membership form provided on the website or through the TAP Air Portugal mobile app, and enrolment using temporary emails is not accepted [1]. Membership is open to all individuals over eighteen years of age who have read and accepted the terms, and legal entities are not allowed to join [1]. Individuals aged between two and eighteen may be members provided that at least one legal guardian completes the application form on their behalf [1]. Each customer may hold only one account, the same email address cannot be used on more than one account, and duplicate accounts or emails are merged without prior notice [1].

A TAP Miles&Go Customer number is assigned at joining and identifies the customer within the programme until the account is cancelled [1]. It is not possible to transfer a TAP Miles&Go account or mileage balance to another loyalty programme [1]. The TAP Miles&Go, Silver and Gold cards are available only in digital format and must be kept on the member's mobile phone for identification; a customer who achieves Gold may order a physical card without an additional fee during the first thirty days, after which, and on renewal of Gold, a fee of twenty-five euros applies [1].

Step 3: How earning works

You will learn: which flights and services credit miles, how fare bonus factors work, and how to claim credit that is missing.

Bonus Miles can be earned on TAP flights, on partner airline flights, in campaigns, and on TAP products and services or those of designated partners [1]. Status Miles are earned on TAP flights and on Star Alliance member airline flights, and some partnerships, products or campaigns may also allow them [1]. On flights taken with TAP Miles&Go partner airlines, only Bonus Miles are earned [1]. On TAP and TAP Express flights the bonus factor depends on the fare: Discount 20%; Basic 50% on intercontinental flights; Classic 70% in Europe and North Africa and 100% intercontinental; Plus 100% in Europe and North Africa and 150% intercontinental; Prime 150% intercontinental; Top Prime 175% intercontinental; Executive 175% (bookings issued up to 1 June 2026 earned 150%); and Top Executive 200% [1].

No accrual is permitted on charter flights, on bus, train or ship services, on Award Tickets, on tickets in the ID, AD, BP, DG, DM, GE, IN, RG or UD industry-discount categories, or on the TAP products Empty Side Seat and Extra Leg Room [1]. Enter your TAP Miles&Go number when booking and keep the first and last name on the booking identical to the name on the account, since discrepancies in name or date of birth may cost benefits [1]. Miles not credited can be claimed up to six months after the service through the Personal Area, and Star Alliance claims must wait eight days after the flight date [1]. Credit normally appears within two days for TAP flights and within six weeks for partner airlines, with the expiry date set from the date travel or the service began [1].

Step 4: How to use miles

You will learn: when miles leave your account, what can and cannot be changed afterwards, and which charges and refund rules apply.

Miles are debited at the time of ticketing, and tickets are issued on confirmation of booking payment [1]. After an Award Ticket is issued the itinerary of the original booking cannot be changed; a change of date or flight number may adjust the miles if the change is to a higher fare or class, no miles are reimbursed on a change to a lower amount, and any difference is presented before re-issuance [1]. Award Tickets do not allow upgrades except upgrades paid at check-in, at the departure gate or through Upgrade Auction, and they are not eligible for the Portugal Stopover Programme [1].

Child Award Tickets are for children aged two to eleven, and the discount is always 25% of the mileage required for the fare available at the time of booking, with miles debited at ticketing and no association with mileage promotions or upgrades [1].

Fees are paid per passenger, and Award Tickets on TAP, Star Alliance and partner flights carry a non-refundable ticketing service charge whose amount varies according to the ticketing station [1]. Award Tickets can be cancelled up to twenty-four hours before departure; in a customer-requested cancellation a fee for the reimbursement of miles applies, varying by segment and status, and miles are reinstated with their original expiry [1]. Once travel begins, miles are non-refundable, and carrier surcharges (YR) and taxes (YQ) are non-refundable for Award Tickets [1].

Step 5: Keeping your miles and reaching Silver, Gold or Navigator

You will learn: how long miles last and how to extend them, and what each status tier requires.

Miles are valid for three years from the date of the activity unless otherwise specified, and some Bonus Miles, such as compensation miles and some promotions, may only be valid for one year [1]. Before expiry, validity may be extended by consulting the conditions of the Miles Store or by joining Club TAP Miles&Go [1]. Miles expire in the early hours of the first day of each month, based on mainland Portugal time, for members whose miles expired on the last day of the previous month, and the corrected balance appears from 07:00 that day [1]. At the Miles Store, purchases, transfers, extensions and conversion of Bonus Miles into Status Miles are carried out in blocks of 2,000 miles, purchases are capped at 200,000 miles a year and transfers at 20,000 miles a year [1].

The base level, TAP Miles&Go, is assigned at enrolment, and the following levels are TAP Miles&Go Silver, TAP Miles&Go Gold and Navigator [1]. The annual Status Miles earning period is linked to the joining date: a membership started on 15 January 2025 has an earning period ending on 31 January 2026, with the next one starting on 1 February 2026 [1]. Silver requires 30,000 Status Miles or 25 TAP flights and is maintained with 20,000 or 15; Gold requires 70,000 or 50 and is maintained with 50,000 or 40; Navigator requires 125,000 or 70 flights, with ten flights flown on Plus, Prime, Top Prime, Executive or Top Executive fares, and is maintained with 100,000 or 70 flights plus the same ten-fare requirement, flights resulting from upgrades not counting [1]. Silver members earn an additional 25% Bonus Miles and 25% Status Miles on TAP flights, while Gold and Navigator members earn 50% of each [1]. For Gold members who renew, miles due to expire at the end of the annual earning period are extended by an additional twelve months, a benefit not available to Gold Partner members [1]. Status is assigned automatically once the required Status Miles are earned, and only Status Miles count towards status [1].

Step 6: Your first concrete action

You will learn: the five things to do once, at the start, so that credit, expiry and award rules never take you by surprise.

  1. Join using the membership form on flytap.com or the TAP Air Portugal app, with a real rather than temporary email address, holding one account per person and one email per account [1]. The rules are on the TAP Miles&Go terms page [1].
  2. Enter your TAP Miles&Go Customer number on every booking and keep the first and last name on the booking identical to the name on the account [1].
  3. Check that credit has arrived within two days for TAP flights and six weeks for partner airlines, and claim anything missing in the Personal Area within six months of the service, waiting eight days first for Star Alliance flights [1].
  4. Note the three-year expiry attached to each activity and use or extend miles before the early hours of the first day of the month in which they lapse [1].
  5. Before you redeem, remember that after an Award Ticket is issued the itinerary of the original booking cannot be changed [1].

Once the account is open, read the award booking guide next, because the number of miles an award needs is variable and changes with supply and demand, seat availability and advance purchase [1].
