PROGRAMME PROFILE
TAP Air Portugal Lounge
TAP Air Portugal Lounge covers the lounge access that TAP attaches to its TAP Miles&Go programme, and the lounges TAP operates or contracts for its passengers. The programme terms list lounge access among the airport benefits that can come with Miles&Go status, apply those benefits according to the status valid on the travel date, and build the rules for entering and using TAP lounges, whether TAP-owned or contracted, into the programme terms. [4] TAP also belongs to the Star Alliance network, where Miles&Go members earn Status Miles and Bonus Miles [5], and United's partner page says MileagePlus members with Premier status who fly TAP receive Star Alliance Gold or Silver benefits. [3]

Key takeaways
- TAP Miles&Go lists lounge access among the airport benefits that can come with status, but the terms do not say which tier receives it, and the benefit depends on the origin and destination of the trip. [4]
- The programme terms cover TAP lounges that are owned and lounges that are contracted, and the rules on access, use and conduct inside them form part of the programme terms. [4]
- Star Alliance sells paid lounge entry to any passenger holding a flight on a Star Alliance member carrier, with no status or business class requirement, limited to the lounge reserved and normally to a three-hour stay. [2]
What TAP publishes about lounge access
Lounge access appears in the TAP Miles&Go terms as one item on a list of airport and in-flight benefits a member may receive with status; the same clause names seat reservation, priority check-in, premium boarding, extra baggage, Fast Track access and last-minute upgrades. [4] The terms say these benefits vary with the origin and destination of the journey and that TAP may change them with reasonable notice. [4]
Two conditions in the terms matter for any lounge visit. Status benefits are applied according to the status valid on the date of travel, not the status held when the booking was made [4], and the member has to add the TAP Miles&Go customer number to the booking for status benefits to be recognised [4]. The terms also fold the lounge house rules into the programme: the rules for access to, use of and staying in TAP lounges are incorporated by reference, and a member who breaches the access, use or conduct rules at TAP premises, including TAP lounges that are owned or contracted, can have programme participation cancelled. [4]
Which status tiers the terms name
TAP Miles&Go has a base tier plus Silver, Gold and Navigator. [4]
The qualifying thresholds themselves are set out in the same document: Silver at 30,000 Status Miles or 25 flights flown with TAP, Gold at 70,000 Status Miles or 50 TAP flights, and Navigator at 125,000 Status Miles or 70 TAP flights, ten of which must be flown in the Plus, Prime, Top Prime, Executive or Top Executive fares, with upgrade travel excluded from that count. [4] Those figures describe qualification for status, not entitlement to a lounge. [4]
Lisbon, Porto and outstations
Lisbon is TAP's hub, and the airline serves destinations on four continents from it. [3] The programme terms speak of TAP lounges that are owned or contracted, so the lounge a member uses may be a TAP facility or one run under contract for TAP passengers. [4]
For outstations, contracted lounges fall under the same access and conduct rules as TAP's own. [4]
Star Alliance status and paid lounge entry
TAP sits in the Star Alliance network, and Miles&Go members earn both Status Miles and Bonus Miles on Star Alliance flights. [5] United's partner page says MileagePlus members with Premier status who fly TAP Air Portugal receive Star Alliance Gold or Silver benefits, and that MileagePlus miles can be used for Star Alliance Upgrade Awards on TAP. [3]
Star Alliance also sells lounge entry as a product in its own right, and its published rules are far more detailed than anything TAP sets out. [2] A paid entry requires a flight on a Star Alliance member carrier, admits the holder only to the lounge named in the reservation, and needs the reservation email plus a boarding pass for the same day of travel, with identification possible at any time. [2] No frequent flyer status and no business class ticket are needed. [2] One reservation can cover up to nine people including the person named on it, and guests are admitted only in that person's presence. [2] The stay is capped at three hours unless the access document or the lounge says otherwise, the person making the reservation must be at least 18, and child access follows each lounge's own policy. [2] A reservation is fully refunded where it is cancelled more than 24 hours before the estimated entry time because the flight was cancelled or delayed by more than four hours; with no cancellation, or a flight that is neither cancelled nor delayed by more than four hours, the reservation is not refunded. [2] A purchase made less than 24 hours before entry is only partly refunded, excluding a 5% service fee. [2]
Exceptions and limits
- Status benefits, lounge access included, follow the status in force on the travel date, so access can change between booking and departure if a tier is gained or lost in between. [4]
- TAP reserves the right to change, add to or withdraw individual programme benefits with reasonable notice, and the member then has the right to end the contract. [4]
- Misconduct at a TAP lounge, a contracted one included, is a ground for immediate cancellation of Miles&Go participation, and cancellation of an account means losing all the miles accumulated in it. [4]
- Paid Star Alliance lounge entry is a separate purchase open to any passenger on a Star Alliance member carrier rather than a Miles&Go tier benefit, and the reservation cannot be moved to another date or lounge without cancelling and rebooking. [2]
