Which Premier tiers does United award?

On top of those totals, members must fly at least four paid flight segments operated by United or United Express. [4] Basic Economy and base fare tickets earn PQP but do not earn PQF, so they move the points total without moving the flight count. [4]
Members who take part in the Status Match Challenge are held to a different yardstick: they must earn both PQF and PQP on United- or United Express-operated flights, or PQP from purchases on an eligible United Chase credit card, inside their Challenge Period. How long does Premier status earned in 2026 last?
The 2026 qualification window runs from January 1 to December 31, and Premier status earned in that year is valid through January 31, 2028. [4] On the Status Match side, Premier status earned in 2026 is valid through January 2028, and through January 2029 for members who earn it on or after January 1, 2027. [3]
Matched status itself starts smaller. Complimentary Premier status lasts for 120 days from the date of the activating flight — the Challenge Period — and is confirmed within five to seven business days of that flight. [3] Matched status expires at the end of the Challenge Period unless the matched level, or a higher one, is earned or awarded before the end date. [3] Accounts are updated within five to seven business days of completing and posting the required PQF and PQP. [3]
An activating flight is a United or United Express flight taken within 90 days of approval of the submitted documents, or within the previous 30 days if the member said so at application and the flight posted to the account with a date on or after January 1, 2026. How do PlusPoints fit into a Premier year?
PlusPoints appear in the Status Match terms as a reward for finishing the challenge at a high level: 20 PlusPoints on meeting the Premier Platinum requirements and 100 PlusPoints on meeting the Premier 1K requirements, credited within 7 to 10 business days. Exceptions and limits
- Who cannot be matched. The offer is not valid for members who took part in the MileagePlus Status Match programme within the last three years or received a Premier Status Exception within the last five years, and members who already hold equivalent or higher MileagePlus status do not receive a match. - Status that does not count. Elite status held because of a trial, temporary or promotional arrangement in the other airline's programme does not qualify for a match. [3]
- Which flights count. The offer is valid only on flights operated by United and United Express, not on United-marketed codeshares operated by other carriers, and flights must post to the MileagePlus account. [3]
- What is excluded from the challenge. PQP from Economy Plus subscriptions, promotional PQF or PQP, PQP from converting other currencies, and credit card PQF or promotional credit card PQP do not count toward the offer. - Flight and fare limits. Basic Economy and base fare tickets earn PQP but not PQF, so they cannot satisfy a PQF requirement on their own. [3] [4]
