What does the card cost, and what spending limits apply?
American Express lists the annual fee for the Business Platinum Card at $895 and states that the card carries no foreign transaction fees from American Express. [1] The card has no preset spending limit; instead, the amount a cardholder can spend adapts based on factors including purchase, payment and credit history. [1]
Eligible charges can move to a Pay Over Time balance that carries interest, up to the cardholder's Pay Over Time Limit, while charges not placed in that balance must be paid in full. [1] Employee Cards are available, with a no-annual-fee option. [1] Applicants can learn whether they are approved without any impact on personal or business credit scores, but if they are approved and accept the card, those scores may be affected. [1]

Several of these credits require enrolment, and the hotel, airline, Hilton, CLEAR, Dell, Adobe, Indeed and wireless credits are described as annual or quarterly amounts rather than one-off payments. [1] The card also brings hotel status: Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status and Hilton Honors Gold status, both requiring enrolment. [1]
How do you earn Membership Rewards points?
The card earns 5X Membership Rewards points on flights and prepaid hotels booked on AmexTravel.com, including Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection bookings. [1] It earns 2X points on eligible purchases at US construction material and hardware suppliers, electronic goods retailers and software and cloud system providers, and shipping providers, as well as on each eligible purchase of $5,000 or more, on up to $2 million of those purchases per calendar year. [1] Other eligible purchases earn 1X. [1] Where a purchase would qualify for more than one additional bonus, only the highest eligible bonus applies. [1]
The Membership Rewards programme terms set the underlying rate at one point per dollar of eligible spend on an enrolled card, with card-specific bonuses layered on top. [5] Those terms exclude cash advances and cash equivalents including gift cards, person-to-person transactions, balance transfers, traveller's cheques, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, fees and interest charges, and foreign exchange fees from eligible purchases. [5] Points are earned only if American Express receives the minimum payment due by the billing statement's payment due date. [5]
Points can be used through Pay with Points at American Express Travel and at participating brands, for statement credits, for gift cards, and for deposits into an American Express Business Checking account. [5] When Pay with Points is used for a flight with the cardholder's selected qualifying airline booked through American Express Travel, 35% of the points come back, up to 1,000,000 points per calendar year. [1] Points can also be transferred to partner loyalty programmes such as Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, British Airways and Delta Air Lines. [1]
What lounge access comes with the card?
The card includes the Global Lounge Collection, which American Express describes as access to over 1,550 airport lounges worldwide as of July 2025. [1] That access covers The Centurion Lounges, 10 Delta Sky Club visits when flying on an eligible Delta flight, and Priority Pass Select membership, which requires enrolment and is subject to visit limitations. [1]
The 10 Delta Sky Club visits run from 1 February until 31 January of the following calendar year, and cardholders can unlock unlimited Delta Sky Club access by spending $75,000 in eligible purchases on the card in a calendar year. [1] American Express values the lounge benefit at over $850 a year, a figure that describes the benefit rather than a cash payment. [1]
Exceptions, limits and conditions
- Airline fee credit. Only one qualifying airline can be selected, and the qualifying list is Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines; American Express relies on airlines to submit correct transaction information, and the list is subject to change. [1] If a qualifying incidental purchase has not been credited after eight weeks, the cardholder is told to call the number on the back of the card. [1]
- Hotel credit. It applies to prepaid bookings made through American Express Travel only, and The Hotel Collection bookings need at least two nights. [1] A separate $100 credit towards eligible charges is available on The Hotel Collection bookings of two nights or more. [1]
- Hilton credit. Gift cards are excluded, and cardholders without a Hilton for Business account are registered for one when they enrol in the benefit. [1]
- Losing points. If American Express cancels a product for any reason, including death, insolvency or bankruptcy, the cardholder loses all points in the rewards account; where the cancellation is due to inactivity, there are 90 days to use the points. [5] Cancelling or unenrolling the last linked product means immediately losing all points. [5]
- Transfers. Transfers cannot be reversed, in most cases require a minimum of 1,000 points in multiples of 1,000, and typically take 48 hours to process; transfers to a US airline frequent flyer programme carry an excise tax offset fee. [5] The partner account must be in the cardholder's name or that of an Additional Card Member issued at least 90 days before linking. [5]
- Ownership and flexibility. Points do not belong to the cardholder, cannot be transferred to someone else's rewards account, and cannot be sold; American Express may change the programme and its terms at any time. [5] Additional Card Members on business accounts do not have their own rewards accounts. [5]
- Deposit rate. With a Business Platinum Card linked to an American Express Business Checking account, up to 1 million points per calendar year can be redeemed at 1,000 points for a $10 deposit, with 1,000 points for $8 thereafter. [5]
