United MileagePlus Credit Cards: Explorer, Quest and Club

United MileagePlus credit cards are the co-branded United Airlines cards that earn MileagePlus miles and add United-specific travel benefits, and the personal family runs from the United Explorer Card and United Quest Card to the United Club Card and the no-annual-fee United Gateway Card. [2] The cards are Chase products, issued under JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., and Chase lists United as one of its card brands. [2] [3]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • United lists seven personal MileagePlus cards, including the Explorer, Quest and Club, plus three business cards. [2]
  • United's own card site describes the Explorer with a free first checked bag, the Quest with free first and second checked bags, and the Club Card with United Club access valued at $750. [2]
  • Eligible United cardmembers earn Premier qualifying points (PQP) on purchases made with their United Chase card, which help toward Premier status. [6]
  • PQP from card spending covers one of the two 2026 Premier routes: the PQF + PQP route needs both, while the PQP-only route needs the higher PQP target instead of PQF. Every route also requires at least four paid United or United Express segments, so card PQP alone still leaves a flying requirement. [7]

Which cards are in the United MileagePlus credit card family?

United's MileagePlus card site groups its products into seven personal cards — United Explorer, United Quest, United Club, United Gateway, United Presidential Plus, United MileagePlus Awards Card and United MileagePlus Select Card — and three business cards: United Business, United Club Business and United Presidential Plus Business. [2] Chase lists United as one of its card brands and features the United Explorer Card among its current offers. [3]

This page compares the three best-known personal products — Explorer, Quest and Club — as a portfolio overview in the United States market. The business cards and the remaining personal products have their own benefit sets and are not compared here. [2] The Club Card's own product detail sits on a separate page: United Club Card. [2]

What do the Explorer, Quest and Club cards include?

United's card site summarises each card with a headline benefit and an estimate of annual value. [2]

Card benefits as described on United's MileagePlus card site
CardHeadline benefitValue United states
United Explorer CardFree first checked bagOver $500 in annual value [2]
United Quest CardFree first and second checked bagsOver $850 in annual value [2]
United Club CardUnited Club accessClub access a $750 value; over $875 in annual value [2]

Chase advertises the United Explorer Card with a free first checked bag, 9x total miles on eligible United flights and a $0 intro annual fee. [3] United lists United Club access, again valued at $750, on the United Presidential Plus Card as well as the Club Card. [2] The no-annual-fee option in the personal range is the United Gateway Card. [2]

Miles earned on these cards are MileagePlus miles and are subject to the MileagePlus programme rules, which United can change with or without notice. [2] [5] For the loyalty currency itself, see the United MileagePlus profile.

How does spending on a United card count toward Premier status?

United states that eligible United cardmembers earn Premier qualifying points (PQP) on purchases made with their United Chase card, and that PQP can help a member reach Premier status faster. [6] PQP are one of the Premier qualifying credits defined in the MileagePlus rules, alongside Premier qualifying flights (PQF). [5]

Within the 2026 MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge, the terms are more specific: PQP from eligible United Chase card purchases count toward the PQP requirement of the challenge, only the primary cardmember earns PQP from card purchases, and credit card PQF or promotional credit card PQP do not count. [6] Card-earned PQP must post to the account on or after the date of the activating flight and on or before the last day of the 120-day Challenge Period. [6]

Award miles and Premier credits are separate measures. United's card terms say bonus award miles and any other miles earned through non-flight activity do not count toward Premier status qualification unless expressly stated otherwise. [2] Card spending therefore feeds the PQP side of a Premier requirement, not the award-mile balance used for redemptions. [2] [6]

What are the 2026 Premier qualification thresholds?

For the 2026 qualification year, running from 1 January to 31 December 2026, a member can qualify for Premier in two ways at each level: meeting both a PQF and a PQP target, or meeting a higher PQP target on its own. [7]

United MileagePlus Premier thresholds for the 2026 qualification year
Premier levelPQF + PQPPQP only
Premier Silver15 PQF and 5,000 PQP6,000 PQP
Premier Gold30 PQF and 10,000 PQP12,000 PQP
Premier Platinum45 PQF and 15,000 PQP18,000 PQP
Premier 1K60 PQF and 22,000 PQP28,000 PQP

Each path carries an additional minimum of four paid flight segments operated by United or United Express, and Premier status earned in 2026 is valid through 31 January 2028. [7] PQF are earned on flights operated by United or United Express, and Basic Economy and base fare tickets earn PQP but not PQF. [6] [7] That is why card PQP alone does not close the gap: on either route, the additional minimum of four paid United or United Express segments still has to be flown. [7]

Exceptions and limits

  • Matched status obtained through the 2026 Status Match Challenge lasts 120 days from the activating flight and expires after that unless the PQF and PQP requirement is met. [6] During the Challenge Period members may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits with United's partners, including Star Alliance lounges. [6]
  • Miles from completed qualifying activity may take 6–8 weeks to post to a MileagePlus account. [2]
  • MileagePlus miles stay in the account until they are redeemed or forfeited — for example for prohibited conduct, at the member's request to close the account, or on the member's death. [5]
  • Benefits attached to a member's status or card, such as additional baggage allowance and lounge access, require the MileagePlus number to remain on the reservation for the whole journey, and a companion loses the benefit if the member stops travelling on that reservation. [5]
  • United may change MileagePlus rules, benefits and Premier qualification criteria, or end the programme, at any time with or without notice. [5] [2]
