How to Book China Airlines Dynasty Flyer Awards
China Airlines Dynasty Flyer awards are redemptions made with the flight miles held in a Dynasty Flyer account; the airline describes those miles as usable for award tickets, cabin upgrades, payment of part of a ticket fare, airport and onboard services, miles donation programmes and selected merchandise. [4]

Key takeaways
- Dynasty Flyer flight miles can be spent on award tickets, cabin upgrades, part payment of a fare, airport and onboard services, donations and selected merchandise. [4]
- Miles last 36 months from the date of the flight, or from the date of actual spending with a cross-industry partner, counted in Taipei local time. [4]
What the balance is built from
Flight miles are the miles earned on scheduled international flights operated by China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines, and on applicable SkyTeam partner flights. [4] Actual miles are measured between departure and destination under the IATA Ticketed-Point-Mileage rule, and a transit that changes the flight number is calculated as two separate flights. [4]
The accrual ratio follows the booking class, not the cabin alone. On the airline's Taipei–Los Angeles example, a Flex business ticket in J earns 175% (11,867 miles), Standard C 150% and Basic D 125%; Flex premium economy W or U earns 125%, Standard A 115% and Basic E 100%; in economy, Flex Y, B or M earns 100% (6,781 miles), Standard K, V or T 80%, Basic R, Q, H or N 50% and Discount L 0%. [4] Tickets in O, Z, L, X, G or S class earn no mileage at all. [4]
Other limits trim the balance. A flight is credited once only, whatever tickets or seats are bought, and where the ticket class and the boarding class differ, the lower of the two applies. [4] Award tickets in X, Z or O class, free tickets, infant tickets, group tickets in G, promotional S, L or X tickets, and heavily discounted, labour, barter, charter, excess baggage and industry discount tickets are excluded from flight miles. [4] A member who also belongs to another partner airline programme may credit a flight to Dynasty Flyer or to the other programme, but not both, and the choice cannot be reversed. [4] If a China Airlines or Mandarin Airlines flight is cancelled or delayed by force majeure and the member is moved to another airline, the sector earns nothing. [4]
How long the miles last
Accumulated mileage is valid for 36 months, counted from the date of the China Airlines, Mandarin Airlines or partner flight, or from the date of actual spending for cross-industry cooperation, on Taipei local time. [4] Expiry runs at 00:00 on the first day of a month: miles earned in May 2016 expired on 1 June 2019, and the airline's second example puts miles earned in August 2019 as expiring on 1 September 2022. [4] Miles must be redeemed for awards under the account of a valid card number within that period and used up according to the rules. [4]
Expired miles can be reinstated within six months for a fee, and reinstated miles are valid for 12 months only. [4] One member's miles cannot be combined with another member's, and each mileage transfer must start at 10,000 miles and continue in increments of 1,000. [4] Any award plan therefore has to work around the expiry date of the specific batch of miles being spent, not around the balance as a whole.
Upgrades with miles by fare family
China Airlines publishes upgrade-with-miles eligibility alongside its economy fare families. Accrual for those families is 0% for Discount L, 50% for Basic N, H, Q or R, 80% for Standard T, V or K and 100% for Flex M, B or Y, and the "Upgrade with Miles" row is marked as allowed in the Standard and Flex families. [5] The table groups routes into short-haul flights within Asia, long-haul flights to North America, Europe and Oceania, and routes between Australia and New Zealand. [5] On the ticketing side, only the Flex family shows a free reissue service charge, while refund and no-show charges apply across the four families shown. [5]
For an upgrade segment booked in I or P class, the ticket class used in the calculation is the class of the original ticket the member purchased. [4]
What the checked sources do not settle
Award ticket changes, cancellations and redeposits are also unstated. [4]
Partner awards are the widest gap. A price or fee for a specific itinerary therefore has to be confirmed with China Airlines rather than inferred from the earning tables.
Exceptions and limits
- China Airlines notes that boarding records take time to update and that an application made on the same day as the flight may not be accepted. [4]
- Queries about flown miles go to the local Member Service Hotline within 180 days of departure, with boarding pass, electronic or paper ticket receipt and membership card number; a flight itinerary or reservation reference is not accepted, and the airline says it verifies and corrects miles within four weeks. [4]
- If the booking name differs from the name on the member profile, online reclaim will not work; the member has to contact the hotline with boarding pass, ticket receipt and a passport photocopy showing the alias name. [4]
- Errors in a partner's mileage record go to the partner directly, with the required documents, within 180 days. [4]
