How to Book Korean Air SKYPASS Awards
Korean Air SKYPASS awards are flights taken using SKYPASS mileage, the currency of Korean Air's own frequent flyer programme. Following the Korean Air and Asiana Airlines integration, a SKYPASS account can hold two separate balances — SKYPASS mileage and Asiana mileage — and Asiana mileage keeps its own redemption standards rather than being treated as SKYPASS mileage. [7] The two balances can sit in the same account but cannot be spent together on a single award. [7]

Key takeaways
- On integration, Asiana Club mileage moved into the Korean Air account as "Asiana Mileage", with its existing balance and validity period kept. [7]
- Asiana mileage can be used for award tickets, seat upgrade awards and Cash and Miles on all routes operated by Korean Air, under the existing Asiana Airlines redemption standards. [7]
- Those Asiana mileage awards are limited to Korean Air-operated routes and are not available on SkyTeam or non-SkyTeam partner airlines. [7]
- SKYPASS mileage and Asiana mileage cannot be combined for one award; spending them together requires converting Asiana mileage into SKYPASS mileage first. [7]
- Conversion runs at 100 Asiana flight miles to 100 SKYPASS miles, or 100 Asiana partner miles to 82 SKYPASS miles. [5]
Two balances in one account
At the point of integration, Asiana Club mileage was transferred to the Korean Air account as "Asiana Mileage", keeping the balance and validity period it already had, so a member holds both SKYPASS mileage and Asiana mileage inside the SKYPASS account. [7] Asiana mileage can be used from the integration date but is no longer earned from that point; new mileage is accrued only as SKYPASS mileage. [7]
The separate Asiana balance is being kept for ten years after integration, specifically so that members who built up mileage over a long period still have the chance to redeem it for flight awards. [7] When that ten-year period ends, any Asiana mileage still left is converted automatically into SKYPASS mileage at a fixed rate. [7]
Members holding both balances choose which one to spend on a given booking. [7] The choice is per award, not per account: the two types of mileage cannot be merged to cover a single award ticket. [7]
Which flights each balance books
Asiana mileage can be put toward award tickets, seat upgrade awards and Cash and Miles on every route operated by Korean Air, and for award tickets and seat upgrades the existing Asiana Airlines mileage redemption standards apply rather than the SKYPASS ones. [7] Peak season dates, application methods, and the rules on taxes and fuel surcharges for those Asiana mileage awards are the same as for SKYPASS Awards. [7]
The route scope is narrower than the balance might suggest: awards funded with Asiana mileage are available only on routes operated by Korean Air and are not available on SkyTeam or non-SkyTeam partner airlines. [7] A reader planning an award that involves a partner carrier should therefore not assume the Asiana balance can pay for the partner segment. [7] For general background on how partner segments are priced and displayed, see partner earning and award availability.
The step-by-step mechanics of running a search are covered in the award search workflow and first award flight step by step.
Combining, converting and Cash and Miles
To spend both balances on one award, the Asiana mileage has to be converted into SKYPASS mileage first, and the conversion ends the separate holding of Asiana mileage. [7] Conversion can be requested at any time and takes effect immediately; after it is done it cannot be cancelled. [7] The validity of the converted mileage stays the same as before conversion. [7]
The rate depends on how the Asiana miles were earned: 100 Asiana miles from flights becomes 100 SKYPASS miles, while 100 Asiana miles accrued from partners becomes 82 SKYPASS miles. [5] Any decimal fraction is rounded up to the nearest mile. [5] Once integration is complete, conversion is made on the Korean Air website through the "Asiana Mileage Dedicated Page", and the Asiana flight and partner mileage being converted can be checked on the Asiana Airlines website. [5] The calculator on that page is an estimate based on the numbers a member enters and may differ from the mileage actually converted. [5]
Cash and Miles is a separate option from an award ticket: when buying a Korean Air ticket, miles can cover part of the fare, from a minimum of 100 miles up to 40% of the fare. [7] It is available on all routes operated by Korean Air. [7]
Exceptions and limits
- No mixing within one award. A member who holds both SKYPASS and Asiana mileage picks one balance per award; using both together requires conversion, and conversion cannot be undone. [7]
- Partner flights are excluded from Asiana mileage awards. The limit applies to SkyTeam and non-SkyTeam partner airlines alike, so the Asiana balance only reaches Korean Air-operated flying. [7]
- Asiana mileage is not earned any more. After the integration date it can be spent but not added to; new mileage accrues as SKYPASS mileage only. [7]
- The ten-year window is finite. Whatever Asiana mileage remains at the end of the ten-year separate operation period is converted automatically at the fixed rate, without a member request. [7]
- Two redemption tables, one trip type. Asiana mileage awards follow Asiana's existing redemption standards, while peak dates, application methods and tax and fuel surcharge rules follow SKYPASS Awards. [7]
