Cathay membership tiers: how Status Points work and what each tier needs

Until 31 December 2026 the Cathay Membership Programme has four statuses — Green, Silver, Gold and Diamond — and a member moves up by earning Status Points within a membership year: 300 for Silver, 600 for Gold and 1,200 for Diamond, with at least one eligible sector flown on Cathay Pacific. [1] Status Points are earned on Cathay Pacific flights and oneworld Alliance airline flights, and a member's number of Status Points determines that member's status. [2] Status Points expire and reset to zero at the end of each Member's Membership Period, and a member who does not earn enough to progress to, or maintain, a status above Green remains a Green Member. [2]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • The Status Points page states that its table shows the number of Status Points required to renew or upgrade a membership status within a membership year, and that in addition to those points the member must fly at least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific. [1]
  • The thresholds listed are 300 Status Points for Silver, 600 for Gold and 1,200 for Diamond, with no figure shown for Green. [1]
  • Status Points are earned on Cathay Pacific flights and oneworld Alliance airline flights, and the eligible flights are designated by Cathay Pacific and may be changed from time to time without notice. [2]
  • No Status Points are earned on tickets redeemed with Asia Miles or any other frequent flyer points, or on flights where the member earns another airline's frequent flyer points at the same time. [2]
  • Status Points expire and reset to zero at the end of each Member's Membership Period, and a member who does not accrue the required number to progress or to maintain a status above Green remains a Green Member. [2]
  • Mid-Status Benefits sit at higher thresholds than the statuses themselves: one Business Class lounge pass for a Green Member at 200 Status Points, two for Silver at 450, two for Gold at 800 and two First or Business Class lounge passes for Diamond at 1,400. [2]

What you can do after reading this guide

  • Match a Status Points total to the Silver, Gold or Diamond threshold and see whether the additional requirement of at least one eligible Cathay Pacific sector is met. [1]
  • Identify the period over which Status Points are counted, and the point at which they reset to zero. [2]
  • Check which flights, fare types and upgrade types do and do not produce Status Points before relying on a route to reach a tier. [2]
  • Read off the headline benefits stated for each status, including lounge access and the separate lounge passes awarded at 200, 450, 800 and 1,400 Status Points. [2]
  • Tell the 2026 transition statements on the Status Points page apart from the programme terms effective 1 January 2026. [1] [2]

Who this applies to and what you need first

This guide covers the Cathay Membership Programme as described on cathaypacific.com en_HK English pages, with the programme terms effective 1 January 2026. It covers Green, Silver, Gold and Diamond status, the Status Points thresholds stated for them, the period over which Status Points count, the reset and renewal rules, and the headline benefits the terms attach to each status. [1] [2]

You need to be successfully enrolled as a Cathay Membership Programme Member, because Status Points are only credited to members who have been successfully enrolled. [2] You must provide your Membership number at the time of making the booking, and may be asked to provide it again at check-in, and the name on the booking must exactly match the name registered with the programme. [2] Only one Membership account is permitted per Member. [2]

The Status Points page lists three earning routes: flying with Cathay Pacific, flying with oneworld partner airlines, and spending on co-branded credit cards, which it states are currently available for Hong Kong only. [1] The programme terms state that Cathay Pacific and Asia Miles Limited may identify additional methods for Members to earn Status Points from time to time. [2]

Not covered here: the terms for Diamond Exec Status, which the terms state will be contained in amended Terms and Conditions to be made available in 2026, and Asia Miles earning and redemption, apart from the points at which Asia Miles and Status Points interact. [2]

How do you work out which tier your Status Points reach?

  1. Confirm that you are successfully enrolled, that your Membership number was given at the time of booking, and that the name on the booking matches your registered name exactly. [2]
  2. Confirm that the flight is eligible: Status Points are earned on Cathay Pacific flights and oneworld Alliance airline flights, and eligible flights are designated by Cathay Pacific and Asia Miles Limited and may change without notice. [2]
  3. Rule out the fare types that do not earn: no Status Points accrue on tickets redeemed with Asia Miles or any other frequent flyer points, or where you earn another airline's frequent flyer points on the same flight. [2]
  4. For an upgraded flight, check the upgrade type, because a Paid Upgrade earns on the upgraded cabin class, an Upgrade Award on the original cabin class, a Bookable Upgrade on the upgraded cabin class, and any other type of upgrade on the original cabin class. [2]
  5. Read your Status Points balance and your membership period end date in your account or the monthly account summary sent by email. [2]
  6. Compare the total with the thresholds of 300 for Silver, 600 for Gold and 1,200 for Diamond, and check that you have flown at least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific. [1]
  7. Note that an upgrade happens as soon as you accrue enough Status Points to enter the next status threshold, that multiple status upgrades are not allowed, and that your Status Points reset to zero when you progress. [1] [2]
  8. Check the Mid-Status Benefits separately: they are awarded at 200, 450, 800 and 1,400 Status Points, which are different from the status thresholds. [2]

Worked example (illustration)

Illustration only: a member earns 1,450 Status Points during the 2026 Calendar Year. That falls within the 1,200 to 2,399 band, so the member achieves Diamond Status on 1 January 2027. [2] Because the total also falls in the 1,201 to 1,800 band, the member may roll over every Status Point earned in excess of the Status Points required of Diamond Status, and any rolled-over Status Points are credited to the account by the end of February 2027. [2] The Status Points page adds that the member must also have flown at least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific. [1]

Common reasons it fails

  • No Membership number on the booking. To earn Status Points, Members must provide their Membership number at the time of making the booking and may be asked for it at check-in. [2]
  • The name does not match. Members must provide their name exactly as registered with the programme in order to be eligible for Status Points. [2]
  • The flight is an award ticket. Members may not accrue Status Points on any tickets redeemed with Asia Miles or any other frequent flyer points. [2]
  • Another programme is being credited. Members may not accrue Status Points on flights where they earn frequent flyer points of other airlines at the same time. [2]
  • The status was not maintained. A member who does not accrue the required number of Status Points to progress to the next status, or to maintain the current status, remains a Green Member, except from Green itself. [2]
  • The membership year has ended. Status Points expire and reset to zero at the end of each Member's Membership Period. [2]
  • The account lapses. A Membership account may be terminated if it has not recorded any activity for a consecutive period of 36 months, and any remaining Asia Miles, Status Points and unused Benefit entitlements are cancelled. [2]
  • The points were expected to move. Status Points are not transferable to any other airline programmes and not transferable to another Member. [2]

Exceptions and limits

  • The 2027 programme is stated separately. The Status Points page describes an enhanced membership programme effective 1 January 2027 and states that, from 1 January to 31 December 2026, current status and benefits remain unchanged, any renewal, upgrade or downgrade resets Status Points to zero, and membership will end on 31 December 2026. [1] The programme terms state that Status Points earned from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 determine each Member's status on 1 January 2027, and that the terms applying from 1 January 2027 will be provided as amended Terms and Conditions in 2026. [2]
  • One step at a time. Upgrades occur as soon as enough Status Points are accrued to enter the next status threshold within a membership year, and multiple status upgrades are not allowed. [1]
  • Rollover from the 2026 Calendar Year is capped by band. Members earning 601 to 900 Status Points may roll over every Status Point earned in excess of the Status Points required of Gold Status; 901 to 1,199 may roll over 300 Status Points; a member earning 1,200 may roll over none; 1,201 to 1,800 may roll over every Status Point earned in excess of the Status Points required of Diamond Status; 1,801 to 2,399 may roll over 600 Status Points; a member earning 2,400 may roll over none; 2,401 to 3,600 may roll over every Status Point earned in excess of the Status Points required of Diamond Exec Status; and more than 3,600 may roll over 1,200 Status Points. [2] Rolled-over Status Points will be credited to Membership accounts by the end of February 2027. [2]
  • Upgrades are treated by type. On Cathay Pacific marketed and operated flights, a Paid Upgrade accrues Status Points on the upgraded cabin class, an Upgrade Award on the original cabin class, a Bookable Upgrade on the upgraded cabin class, and any other type of flight upgrade on the original cabin class. [2]
  • Disruption. Where air travel is disrupted for reasons beyond the control of Cathay Pacific or a oneworld Alliance airline, including extreme weather conditions, war, pandemic or acts of God, and the Member is placed on a different carrier, Status Points accrue on the disrupted segments of the purchased tickets based on the original itinerary. [2]
  • Membership Holiday. Silver, Gold and Diamond Members are eligible for Membership Holidays, requested between 7 days and 90 days before the start date, lasting a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 12 months, up to 3 in a Membership lifetime, during which status is preserved without accruing Status Points. [2] A Membership Holiday granted during the 2026 Calendar Year lasts only until 31 December 2026. [2]
  • Lounge and pass conditions. Business and First Class lounge guests must be travelling under the same booking as the eligible Member, or on the same route on the same date, and must enter the lounge with the Member; each lounge pass is valid for 12 months from the date of issue and for one passenger for a single entry. [2]

Frequently asked questions

What happens if you do not reach the next tier?

A member who does not accrue the required number of Status Points to progress to the next Status, or to maintain the current Status, will remain a Green Member, except from Green. [2] Separately, Status Points expire and reset to zero at the end of each Member's Membership Period. [2]

Do Status Points carry over to the next year?

Only under the rollover rule for the 2026 Calendar Year. Members who earn more than 600 Status Points during that year may roll over excess Status Points, up to a maximum of 50% of the Status Points required to achieve the highest Status achieved, and the rolled-over points are credited by the end of February 2027. [2] Subject to those rolled-over points, all Status Points reset to zero on 1 January 2027. [2]

Can you jump straight from Green to Gold?

No. Multiple status upgrades are not allowed, so a member can progress only one membership status at a time, although the upgrade happens as soon as enough Status Points are accrued to enter the next status threshold within a membership year. [1]

Is any Cathay status held for life?

Joining the programme makes you a lifetime Green member. [1] The Status Points page and the programme terms do not state lifetime Silver, Gold or Diamond status, and status is otherwise determined by the Status Points earned during the Member's Membership Period. [2]
