How to earn British Airways Club status
British Airways Club status is the tier a member holds in The British Airways Club. [5] Blue is the entry tier on joining, and Bronze, Silver and Gold are reached at 3,500, 7,500 and 20,000 tier points respectively. [1] Tier points are separate from Avios and are counted in a tier point collection year that runs from 1 April to 31 March. [5]
Facts checked: 18 October 2026
Key takeaways
- Blue starts on joining; Bronze starts at 3,500 tier points, Silver at 7,500 and Gold at 20,000. [1]
- Tier points are counted in a 1 April to 31 March collection year, and a mid-year joiner's first period runs from joining to 31 March. [5]
- Silver includes business lounge access, while Gold includes First check-in and boarding, First lounge access and additional Reward Flight availability. [1]
- Card status is reviewed at the end of the collection year, when tier points and eligible flights return to zero; BA may reduce a tier at its discretion. [5]
Thresholds and the qualifying year
Blue is the tier a member holds as soon as they join. [1] Bronze is reached at 3,500 tier points, Silver at 7,500 and Gold at 20,000. [1]
The Club's terms define the tier point collection year as the 12-month period from 1 April to 31 March; if a member joins after 1 April, the first collection period runs from the joining date to 31 March. [5] At the end of each collection year, before the current membership's expiry date, BA reviews each member's card status. [5] Tier points and eligible flights can be counted only once, and at the end of the collection year the member's tier-point or eligible-flight level returns to zero. [5]
BA may reduce a tier at its discretion based on the tier points or eligible flights taken in the previous collection year; points or flights from before the start of the relevant collection year do not count for that review. [5] Tier points can be earned only on eligible sectors at eligible fares on British Airways or on eligible flights of certain airline partners. [5] The rules for earning tier points may differ from the rules for earning Avios. [5]
Gold may also be earned through the required number of lifetime tier points, and that Gold tier is automatically renewed each year while the member remains in the Club. [5] The terms also provide for Gold for life, awarded for life to members who earn the required number of lifetime tier points stated on Ba.com. [5] BA may change or withdraw Gold for life with at least six months' notice, and Gold for life is not transferable. [5]
The terms record that the programme was renamed The British Airways Club from 1 April 2025, that the minimum eligible-flight requirements for Bronze and for Silver and Gold were removed, and that conditions were added for collecting tier points based on spend. [5] For bookings flown from 1 April 2026, BA increased the amount of tier points that can be earned according to flight date, marketing carrier, cabin and fare type purchased. [5] Extra tier points are awarded per sector for bookings flown from 1 April 2026, based on marketing carrier, haul, cabin and fare type purchased. [5] For bookings flown from 1 April 2025 and booked from 30 December 2024, tier points are awarded against eligible spend in pounds sterling, with other currencies converted using the IATA five-day rate on the date the ticket was issued or the eligible ancillary was purchased. [5]
What each tier adds
Core benefits at every tier include collecting Avios, earning tier points, free Wi-Fi messaging, saving details and preferences, and member-only offers. [1] Blue members join for free. [1]
Bronze includes priority check-in and boarding and free seat selection seven days before departure. [1] Silver includes priority boarding, free seat selection at booking, access to business lounges and an extra baggage allowance. [1] Gold includes First class check-in and boarding, free seat selection at booking, access to First lounges, an extra baggage allowance and additional Reward Flight availability. [1] Some of these benefits carry restrictions, as marked on BA's tier page. [1]
Benefits are valid until the expiry date of the current membership, and benefits already applied to a booking may vary if the member's tier changes before travel. [5] Lounges are available only to Silver and Gold members and their guests as set out on Ba.com. [5] Members must show a membership card and/or a boarding card or ticket with the membership number and tier clearly visible, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. [5]
Flying with partner airlines
BA's tier page says members can enjoy a range of benefits when flying with other oneworld airlines, including American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, Qantas and Qatar Airways. [1]
On Aer Lingus-operated flights, all Club members can collect Avios and earn tier points, while other benefits depend on tier and route. [1] Bronze members get priority check-in for everyone on the booking using the Premium or Business Class check-in area, and priority boarding for everyone on the booking. [1] Silver and Gold members get the same check-in and boarding, plus priority security for the member and one companion when travelling from Dublin, Shannon, London Heathrow, Amsterdam, Belfast or Birmingham. [1] Silver and Gold also get lounge access for the member and one companion at selected lounges, excluding Barbados, when travelling on a transatlantic route. [1] Silver members get one additional 23kg bag on Aer Lingus-operated flights in economy, excluding EI Saver Fares. [1] Gold members get one additional 23kg bag in any cabin, excluding EI Saver Fares; in EI Business class an additional piece up to 32kg is allowed but the combined weight must not exceed 96kg. [1] Because Aer Lingus is not part of oneworld, the tier is marked on the boarding pass using the code FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3. [1]
Exceptions and limits
- The restrictions marked on BA's tier page apply to some benefits, including priority check-in and boarding, free seat selection and extra baggage. [1]
- Lounge access is limited to Silver and Gold members and their guests as set out on Ba.com; Blue and Bronze members do not have it under the published tier benefits. [1] [5]
- Tier points, including lifetime tier points, must be earned by the member and are not transferable. [5]
- Extra tier points cannot be earned when purchasing Economy Basic fares, Reward Flights, upgrades using Avios, or other promotional upgrades purchased at the airport, or on a flight operated by a partner airline. [5]
- Tier points are not earned on government or airport taxes and fees, credit card surcharges, service or change fees. [5]
- Gold Guest List. The BA tier page and Club terms describe Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold but do not set out a Gold Guest List tier, its threshold, qualifying period or benefits. [1] [5]
