GUIDE
Westpac Altitude Rewards vs NAB Rewards: what NAB offers
NAB Rewards is the consumer credit-card rewards programme of National Australia Bank Limited, and on its four Australian cards it advertises earn of up to 2.5 NAB Rewards Points per $1, annual card fees of $195 or $395, and points that can be moved to Velocity, flybuys, ALL Accor, KrisFlyer or Koru but not to Qantas. [3] [9] This guide sets out the NAB Rewards side of the comparison — card tiers, earn rates, annual fees, transfer options and redemption — for Australian consumer cards; Westpac Altitude Rewards and NAB business cards sit outside its scope.

Key takeaways
- NAB Rewards runs four consumer cards in two tiers: the NAB Rewards Card and NAB Rewards Card with Velocity carry a $195 annual fee and a $3,000 minimum credit limit, while the two Travel versions carry $395 and $6,000. [3] [9]
- All four charge a 22.49% p.a. variable purchase rate as of 18 October 2026 and offer up to 44 interest-free days on purchases. [3] [9]
- Earning is uncapped, advertised at up to 2 NAB Rewards Points per $1 on the standard cards and up to 2.5 points per $1 on the Travel cards. [3]
- The two Velocity cards convert 3 NAB Rewards Points into 1 Velocity Point and send points to the Velocity account automatically each month. [3] [9]
- NAB Rewards Points expire three years after they were earned, and Qantas Frequent Flyer is excluded from the partner list. [3]
What card tiers does NAB Rewards offer?
NAB Rewards is sold on four consumer credit cards: the NAB Rewards Card and NAB Rewards Travel Card, plus a Velocity version of each. [3] [9]
| Card | Minimum credit limit | Annual card fee | Variable purchase rate | Advertised earn |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NAB Rewards Card | $3,000 | $195 p.a. | 22.49% p.a. | Up to 2 points per $1 [9] |
| NAB Rewards Travel Card | $6,000 | $395 p.a. | 22.49% p.a. | Up to 2.5 points per $1 [9] |
| NAB Rewards Card with Velocity | $3,000 | $195 p.a. | 22.49% p.a. | Up to 2 points per $1 [9] |
| NAB Rewards Travel Card with Velocity | $6,000 | $395 p.a. | 22.49% p.a. | Up to 2.5 points per $1 [9] |
The tier split is simple: a higher minimum credit limit and a $200 higher annual fee buy the Travel features rather than a different points currency. [3] Existing NAB customers can cut the annual fee by $100 in the first year, taking the Rewards Card to $95 and the Travel Card to $295, provided they apply through NAB Internet Banking, the NAB app or a banker. [9]
Every card offers 0% p.a. for 12 months on standard balance transfers with a 3% balance transfer fee, after which an unpaid balance reverts to the variable cash advance rate; NAB says it cannot process balance transfers from certain issuers. [3] Purchases get up to 44 interest-free days, and an additional cardholder can be added at no extra cost. [3]
How do you earn NAB Rewards points?
Earning is uncapped on all four cards: NAB states that there is no limit to the amount of rewards points a cardholder can earn each month. [3] The advertised rate is up to 2.5 NAB Rewards Points per $1 on the two Travel cards and up to 2 points per $1 on the two standard cards. [3]
A Velocity card does not hold a separate balance of airline points. NAB converts 3 NAB Rewards Points into 1 Velocity Point and transfers the result into the cardholder's Velocity account automatically each month. [3] [9] To earn Velocity Points, the cardholder must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member and must have given that membership number to NAB. [9]
Cardholders on the two non-Velocity cards can still arrange automatic monthly redemption, sending points to flybuys, Velocity Frequent Flyer or an ALL Accor account, and can change that setting in their NAB Rewards Store profile. [3]
Where can you transfer or redeem NAB Rewards points?
Points can be spent in the NAB Rewards Store on gift cards from brands including Coles, Woolworths, Bunnings and JB Hi-Fi, on cash back, or on travel booked with Webjet. [3] For airline and hotel programmes, NAB lists a range of travel partners that includes KrisFlyer and Koru, and states that the Qantas Frequent Flyer program is excluded. [3]
To make a transfer, a cardholder logs in to NAB Internet Banking or the NAB app, opens My Cards, selects the NAB Rewards card, chooses Redeem points, then Travel and Airline Partner Programs. [3] NAB Rewards Points expire three years after they were earned, so a balance left sitting in the store does not last indefinitely. [3]
What does the higher annual fee buy?
Almost everything that separates the $395 Travel tier from the $195 card is travel and insurance rather than points: fee-free international transactions, two complimentary airport lounge passes each year at over 400 lounges worldwide, lounge access at selected locations when a domestic or international flight is delayed by 60 minutes or more, a complimentary global eSIM plan and complimentary mobile phone insurance. [3]
All four cards list complimentary insurances, and the Travel cards name international travel insurance among them. [3] All four also include a NAB Concierge service, global assistance for card emergencies, fraud and theft protection, and support for adding an additional cardholder at no extra cost. [3]
Who can get a NAB Rewards card, and who misses the bonus?
Applicants must be 18 or older, receiving a regular income, an Australian resident for tax purposes, and either an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or a non-resident holding an acceptable temporary residency visa. [9] NAB lists visitor visas (other than a Special Category visa held by a New Zealand citizen), working holiday, student, exchange or gap year, transit, short stay or seasonal, and bridging visas as not acceptable. [9]
Bonus points are not available to customers who currently hold, have held, or are transferring from any personal NAB Rewards credit card in the last 24 months. [9] As of 18 October 2026 the NAB Rewards Card offered up to 100,000 bonus points — 80,000 after approval and $3,000 of everyday spending in the first 90 days, plus 20,000 for keeping the card beyond 12 months — while the NAB Rewards Travel Card offered up to 180,000 points on the same pattern with a $5,000 spend. [9]
The two Velocity cards offered up to 80,000 and up to 90,000 Velocity Points respectively, under offers that commenced on 1 October 2026, end on withdrawal and are open to new cardholders only, with the Travel version available online only. [9] Minimum monthly repayments are required, and NAB may vary or end an offer at any time. [9]
Exceptions and limits
- NAB Rewards Points expire three years after they were earned. [3]
- Qantas Frequent Flyer sits outside the NAB Rewards partner list: NAB Rewards Points cannot be used to redeem Qantas Points, and NAB runs a separate Qantas Rewards card range instead. [3] [9]
- The advertised earn rates are expressed as "up to", so they are maximums rather than a flat rate on every dollar spent. [3]
- The first-year annual fee discount for existing NAB customers depends on applying through NAB Internet Banking, the NAB app or a banker. [9]
- Interest rates, fees, charges and earn rates can change. [3]
- An unpaid balance transfer reverts to the variable cash advance rate, and balance transfers from certain issuers cannot be processed. [3]
- This comparison covers consumer cards issued by National Australia Bank Limited only; NAB business cards and Westpac group cards are not included.
