What are the One Harmony membership tiers?

Under the membership terms revised on 1 April 2026, the basic status is Member and the upper tiers are Loyal, Exclusive and Exclusive Plus, which the terms group as Upper-tier Members. [2] The published thresholds and headline benefits are:

Upper-tier status is valid for one year from 1 April to 31 March. [2] The performance evaluation period runs from 1 January to 31 December: a member who meets the criteria is upgraded when they meet them and stays there until the end of March of the following year, while a member who misses the criteria drops one tier on 1 April. [2] Upper-tier members can roll over points earned above the qualification criteria as status-qualifying points, capped at the total points earned in the evaluation period, and points rolled over from the previous year cannot be rolled again; rollover never applies to stay nights. [2] Applying for the One Harmony VISA Gold card also upgrades a member to Loyal, valid to the end of March of the following year. [2]

How do you earn One Harmony points?

Points are credited when a member presents their membership number and personally pays the bill. [2] Hotel stays earn 3 points per ¥100 spent and restaurant or bar bills 1 point per ¥100, excluding service charges and taxes, with tips, in-room entertainment and telecoms charges also left out; a stay package that bundles meals earns on the accommodation charge only, apart from certain hotels. [2] Stays outside Japan earn at the same rates on the amount spent in local currency, and overseas hotels apply their own conversion rates. [2]

Stays earn points only when booked through the Okura Nikko Hotels Reservation Center, the Okura Nikko Hotels or One Harmony websites, or the hotel directly. [2] Dynamic packages that bundle flights or car rental count as travel-agency bookings and earn nothing, cancellation fees earn nothing, and Nikko Alliance Hotels do not accrue points. [2] Nights booked through other channels still count towards status qualification as long as the member presents their membership number. [2]

Members may take airline miles instead of points, but the choice must be set in My Account with the mileage number registered in advance; it cannot be changed at checkout or afterwards, and miles arrive two to three months after use. [2] Upper-tier members earn bonus points on top — 25% at Loyal and 50% at Exclusive and Exclusive Plus — though points from spa services, events and promotional campaigns may be excluded, and bonus JAL Mileage Bank miles apply on J-SMART plans with some Okura hotels excluded. [2]

How do you redeem One Harmony points?

Pay by Points works as a part-payment: the minimum is 500 points, Japanese hotels take them in one-point steps, and hotels outside Japan value them at the exchange rate the programme office sets at the time of use, rounding fractions down. [2] No change is given if the points exceed the bill, some outlets do not accept them, and the option works whatever the booking channel. [2]

Stay Awards and Upgrade Awards deduct points at booking, return them if the booking is changed or cancelled up to two days before arrival, and forfeit them from the day before arrival. [2] Neither award can be combined with the other or with an upper-tier upgrade benefit, each room is booked separately, other taxes may apply, and upgrade awards are unavailable from 30 December to 3 January. [2] Gift Awards exchange points for products shipped to the address on the account, with no shipping outside Japan, while points-to-miles conversions run only through the One Harmony website and take three to four weeks to credit. [2]

How long do One Harmony points last?

Points stay valid for 24 months from the date they were earned or redeemed, and each new earning or redemption extends the expiry date of the whole balance by 24 months. [2] Stay credits and airline mile accruals do not extend validity, expired points cannot be reinstated, and withdrawing from the programme or having membership revoked cancels every point held. [2] Membership itself can be revoked after 36 consecutive months with no recorded stay and no point accrual. [2]

What are the exceptions and limits?

• Some partner hotels and group facilities sit outside member benefits, and the terms note that individual hotels may not offer particular benefits such as late checkout or upgrade awards. [2]
• Anniversary benefits run once per April–March year, within one month either side of the anniversary month registered in My Account, and are blacked out from 22 December to 5 January; the dessert must be booked at least three days ahead and is not served at breakfast. [2]
• Complimentary stay coupons go to Exclusive Plus members who earn 50,000 or more points in a calendar year excluding rollover points: five coupons are mailed by the end of March, cover the member's own stay only, carry no cash value and cannot be reissued, with a blackout from 30 December to 3 January. [2]
• Daily complimentary breakfast is for Exclusive Plus members plus up to two guests sharing the room, excludes children sharing beds, and is not refunded or discounted when breakfast is already part of the room package. [2]
• Nights cannot be pooled or combined between members, including family, and points cannot be transferred between members; restaurant discounts cover up to 10 guests when the member pays, cannot be combined with JAL Coupons, JMB Restaurant Miles or other discounts, and do not apply at Okura Hotels & Resorts restaurants. [2]
• The programme can be terminated on three months' notice, at which point unused points and benefits are cancelled; the terms are governed by the laws of Japan, with the Tokyo District Court or Tokyo Summary Court holding exclusive jurisdiction. [2]

Frequently asked questions

Is One Harmony free to join?

Yes. There is no admission fee or membership fee, except for members issued a membership card with a credit function, whose fees follow the card issuer's terms. [2] Members must be 18 or older, or younger with a parent or guardian's consent, and corporate entities cannot join. [2]

How do you reach One Harmony Exclusive Plus?

The published threshold is 60 or more nights or 40,000 or more points. [1] Status is judged over the 1 January to 31 December evaluation period and stays valid until the end of March of the following year. [2]

Do One Harmony points expire?

Each point lasts 24 months from the date it was earned or redeemed, and every new earning or redemption pushes the expiry of the entire balance out by another 24 months. [2] Expired points cannot be reinstated. [2]

Can you book a free night with One Harmony points?

Yes, through Stay Awards, with points deducted at booking. [2] A change or cancellation up to two days before arrival returns the points within their validity period, while cancelling from the day before arrival forfeits all of them. [2]
