How to use Bilt Rewards without the Bilt card
Bilt Rewards is a United States loyalty programme that awards Bilt Points for rent and mortgage payments, and its published programme rules set out earning rates for members who pay rent through the Bilt app or website without holding the Bilt credit card. [2] A rent payment by ACH, debit card, peer-to-peer provider, flexible payment solution, or a credit card outside the Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover networks earns up to 250 points per monthly payment; a rent payment on a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover credit card earns 1 point per $2 spent. [2] Bilt advertises 1:1 transfers of points to its airline and hotel partners. [1] [2]

How do you earn Bilt points on rent without the Bilt card?
Members earn Bilt Points on rent paid through the Bilt app or website, including payments that are not made with a Bilt Card, and the rate depends on the payment method used. [2] Members whose home sits inside Bilt's property network pay directly in their resident portal, while members outside that network can use Bilt BillPay to earn points on rent at any home. [1]
| Payment method | Points earned |
|---|---|
| ACH, debit card, a peer-to-peer provider such as Venmo (except where the funding instrument is a credit card), a flexible payment solution such as Livble or Flex, or a credit card outside the Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover networks | Up to 250 points per monthly rent payment |
| Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover credit card, including Venmo funded by a credit card | 1 point per $2 spent |
Points cannot be earned on rent payment fees under this offer, including fees assessed by peer-to-peer providers or flexible payment solutions. [2] The rent offer is subject to change and cannot be combined with other benefits or promotions that are specific to rent spend on the Bilt app or website using other non-Bilt credit cards. [2] Transaction fees may also apply to payments made through the Bilt payment centre; the amount can vary by payment method, credit card payments may incur one, and a fee waiver may be granted based on tier status or as part of a promotion. [2]
Separately, Bilt advertises bonus points at participating merchants, with rates of up to 3X at local restaurants and 2X on Lyft rides. [1]
Can you earn Bilt points on mortgage payments without the Bilt card?
Yes, and the rate again depends on the payment method rather than on holding the card. [2]
| Payment method | Points earned |
|---|---|
| ACH | 100 points per contractual mortgage payment |
| Debit card | 250 points per contractual mortgage payment |
| Mastercard credit card that is not a Bilt Card | 1 point per $2 spent |
A contractual payment is the monthly amount contractually due under the loan as determined by the mortgage servicer. [2] A payment that bundles that amount with additional principal, escrow or other amounts still qualifies, but a payment made up only of extra principal or escrow does not. [2] Members with more than one mortgage loan can earn on each eligible loan, and points are earned per qualifying payment per loan rather than per calendar month. [2] Mortgage payments can be submitted up to 30 days before the contractual due date, and anything earlier does not earn points; mortgage payment fees do not earn points either. [2]
Do Bilt points still transfer to airlines and hotels?
Transferring points to participating frequent travel programmes is listed among the ways members can use points, alongside rent, fitness and lifestyle partners, Bilt Home Collection goods and a down payment on a mortgage sourced through Bilt. [2] Bilt advertises 1:1 transfers to its airline and hotel partners, with 17 airline partners and 7 hotel partners shown on its site. [1] The hotel partners it names are Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, IHG Rewards Club, Accor Live Limitless, Wyndham Rewards and Preferred Hotels. [1] The airline list shown includes United MileagePlus, Alaska Airlines & Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Rapid Rewards, British Airways Club, JAL Mileage Bank, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Air Canada Aeroplan, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Aer Lingus Aerclub, TAP Miles&Go and Iberia Plus. [1]
Points can also be spent in Bilt's travel portal, which the programme describes as covering over 500 airlines and 700,000 hotel properties, or on everyday items such as Lyft rides, gift cards, Amazon purchases, student loans and rent credit. [1] Redemption values vary, minimum and maximum amounts may apply, and a redemption is final once made. [2] Bilt also runs monthly Rent Day benefits on the 1st of each month, which it describes as including transfer bonuses and other limited-time offers. [1] For the vocabulary used across these redemption routes, see the frequent flyer terms index.
Can you reach Bilt status without the card?
Bilt has two routes to Tier Status, and members receive the higher of the two results: Qualifying Points earned in a calendar year, or a Fast Track based on cumulative spend. [2] Qualifying Points count rent spend, mortgage payment spend and non-rent, non-mortgage spend through the account, and exclude bonus-type points such as referrals, courtesy points, Rent Free prize points, campaign bonus points and points for marketing activity such as surveys. [2]
| Tier | Qualifying Points | Fast Track spend |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | Under 50,000 | |
| Silver | 50,000 to 124,999 | |
| Gold | 125,000 to 199,999 | |
| Platinum | 200,000 or more |
Fast Track spend is measured on Bilt Card purchases excluding rent and mortgage, Bilt Travel Portal purchases, Bilt Dining restaurants paid with any eligible card linked to the member's Bilt account, net Lyft rides booked with Bilt Rewards set as the active loyalty partner, SoulCycle classes booked through Bilt, and other merchants Bilt identifies, but not on rent or mortgage payments. [2] Once earned, Tier Status lasts for the rest of the earning calendar year, the whole of the following year and through 15 January of the year after that. [2]
Exceptions and limits
- Who can join. The programme is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and US territories who are at least 18 and have reached the age of majority where they live; only individuals may enrol, with one account each. [2]
- Inactivity. Points do not expire while the account is open and active, but the programme defines expiration as the loss of points after 18 months of account inactivity. [2] Activity means a rent or mortgage payment through the account, a qualified purchase on the co-branded credit card if the member has one, any redemption of Bilt Points, or entry into a promotional sweepstakes offered by Bilt. [2]
- Forfeiture. All points are lost immediately if an account becomes inactive or is closed for reasons that include breaching the rules, bankruptcy, or suspected fraud and misuse such as unauthorised buying or selling of points, moving points to an ineligible third party, or repeatedly opening accounts to generate rewards. [2]
- Refunds and corrections. Bilt may correct point balances, and returns or refunds are deducted from the balance, which can leave it negative and block redemptions until it is positive again. [2]
- Changes to the programme. Bilt may change the programme at any time and gives 45 days' notice of changes to fees, earn rates, caps on the number of points earned, bank partners and cancellation of the programme, but not of changes to what points can be redeemed for. [2] If the programme is cancelled, members have at least 30 days to use their points. [2]
- Verification. Some redemptions, including gift cards and transfers to certain partners, may require additional verification or be limited based on account standing or identity checks. [2]
Frequently asked questions
Do you need the Bilt credit card to earn Bilt points?
No. The programme rules publish earning rates for rent and mortgage payments made through the Bilt app or website without a Bilt Card, with the rate set by the payment method. [2]
What is the difference between paying rent by debit card and by credit card?
ACH, a debit card, a peer-to-peer transfer not funded by a credit card, a flexible payment solution or a credit card outside the Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover networks earns up to 250 points per monthly rent payment, while a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover credit card earns 1 point per $2 spent. [2] Rent payment fees, including those charged by peer-to-peer providers or flexible payment solutions, do not earn points. [2]
Do Bilt points expire if you stop paying rent through Bilt?
Points expire after 18 months of account inactivity, and activity includes redemptions and promotional sweepstakes entry as well as rent or mortgage payments through the account. [2]
Can you reach Bilt elite status without the card?
Partly. Rent and mortgage spend counts toward Qualifying Points, and the Fast Track also counts Bilt Travel Portal purchases, Bilt Dining spend on a linked card and Lyft rides booked with Bilt Rewards as the active loyalty partner. [2]
