How to track British Airways Club tier point resets

The British Airways Club is the frequent flyer programme of British Airways, and its tier points are the measure that moves a member through the Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers, with Bronze beginning at 3,500 tier points, Silver at 7,500 and Gold at 20,000. [1] Tier points are counted inside a collection year that runs from 1 April to 31 March, so the year in progress on 18 October 2026 is 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. [2]

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Bronze begins at 3,500 tier points, Silver at 7,500 and Gold at 20,000, while Blue applies as soon as a member joins. [1]
  • Tier points are counted in a collection year that starts on 1 April and ends on 31 March; a member who joins mid-year is measured from the joining date to 31 March. [2]
  • At the end of the collection year the member's tier point level returns to zero, and British Airways reviews card status before the expiry date of the current membership. [2]
  • Tier points on British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia-marketed flights follow eligible spend, while flights marketed by other airline partners are calculated from where the journey begins and ends. [2]

What are the tier point thresholds for each Club tier?

The Club has four tiers, and British Airways publishes the tier point figure that opens three of them. The thresholds in force on 18 October 2026 are: [1]

TierTier pointsBenefits British Airways lists
BlueNone, from joiningCollect Avios, member-only offers [1]
Bronze3,500Priority check-in and boarding, free seat selection 7 days before departure [1]
Silver7,500Priority boarding, free seat selection at booking, business lounge access, extra baggage allowance [1]
Gold20,000First class check-in and boarding, free seat selection at booking, First lounge access, extra baggage allowance, additional Reward Flight availability [1]

Members move up in order: Blue to Bronze, Bronze to Silver, and Silver to Gold. [2] Several of the benefits above carry British Airways' own note that some restrictions apply. [1] Since 1 April 2025 the terms carry no minimum-flight condition; the update note records that references to a minimum of two eligible flights for Bronze and four for Silver and Gold were removed, and that conditions were added for collecting tier points based on spend. [2] British Airways may still change the number of tier points, lifetime tier points or eligible flights needed for each card, and must tell members in advance. [2]

When does the tier point collection year start and reset?

The terms define a tier point collection year as the 12-month period starting on 1 April and ending on 31 March, and the definition was updated with effect from 1 April 2024. [2] A member who joins after 1 April is measured from the day of joining through to 31 March, so the first period is shorter than a full year. [2] As of 18 October 2026, the collection year in progress runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. [2]

Each member's card status is reviewed at the end of every collection year, before the expiry date of the current membership, and at that point the tier point or eligible flight level returns to zero. [2] Tier points and eligible flights can only be counted once. [2]

How are tier points counted on BA and partner flights?

Tier points are earned only for travel on eligible sectors at eligible fares, on British Airways flights or on eligible flights of certain airline partners. [2] The member must actually fly the sector and must give their full name and membership number at the time of booking. [2]

British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia-marketed flights. For bookings flown from 1 April 2025 that were booked from 30 December 2024, tier points are awarded against eligible spend — the base fare and carrier imposed charges — in pounds sterling. [2] Spend in other currencies is converted at the IATA five-day rate on the date the ticket was issued or the ancillary bought, while British Airways Holidays bookings use the rate current on the date the booking was made. [2] Government and airport taxes and fees, credit card surcharges and service or change fees earn no tier points. [2] Spend-based tier points are tracked on flown tickets, pro-rated per sector and rounded to the nearest whole number, and tier points for ancillaries are awarded once the ancillary is used against the sector it was bought for. [2]

Other airline partners. In the same booking window, flights marketed by airline partners other than BA, AA and Iberia — along with tickets whose fare the travel agent does not disclose, such as bulk, consolidator and inclusive tour tickets — are calculated on the destination where the member's travel begins and ends. [2] Connecting flights are credited as the total of the separate sectors, while direct or through flights with intermediate stops are credited from the ticketed origin to the destination. [2] All Club members also earn tier points on Aer Lingus-operated flights, and Aer Lingus is not part of oneworld. [1]

Extra tier points. For bookings flown from 1 April 2026, extra tier points are earned per sector on top of the spend-based award, set by marketing carrier, haul, cabin and fare type. [2] On British Airways-marketed flights the amounts are: [2]

BA-marketed cabinExtra tier points by fare type
Euro TravellerEconomy Plus 75 · Economy Semi-Flex 175 · Economy Fully Flex 275
Club EuropeBusiness 175 · Business Semi-Flex 275 · Business Fully Flex 375
World TravellerEconomy Standard 150 · Semi-Flex 250 · Flex 350 · Fully Flex 450
World Traveller PlusPremium Economy 275 · Semi-Flex 375 · Flex 475 · Fully Flex 575
Club WorldBusiness 500 · Semi-Flex 700 · Flex 900 · Fully Flex 1,100
FirstFirst 650 · Semi-Flex 850 · Flex 1,050 · Fully Flex 1,250

On American Airlines and Iberia-marketed flights the amount depends on haul and cabin: short-haul economy 75, short-haul premium economy 75, short-haul business 175, short-haul first 175, long-haul economy 150, long-haul premium economy 275, long-haul business 500 and long-haul first 650. [2] Where a British Airways-marketed flight counts as short-haul, economy and premium economy cabins are treated as Economy (Euro Traveller) and business and first cabins as Business (Club Europe) for these amounts, whatever cabin name appears on the ticket. [2] If the fare type cannot be identified, extra tier points are awarded at the lowest fare type level for that cabin. [2] Extra tier points cannot be earned on Economy Basic fares, Reward Flights, upgrades using Avios, other promotional upgrades bought at the airport, or flights operated by partner airlines. [2]

Two further limits apply. Apart from special promotions, tier points and Avios are not credited where a member is earning credits in another loyalty programme for the same services. [2] Agency, industry and airline employee discount tickets, travel on redemption tickets up to 31 March 2025, and infant fares are not eligible, and the rules for earning tier points may differ from the rules for earning Avios. [2]

What happens at renewal if you fall short?

The terms set no single automatic outcome. British Airways states that a tier level may be reduced at its discretion, depending on the tier points earned or eligible flights taken in the previous collection year, and that points or flights completed before that year began are not counted for that decision. [2] Two things sit outside the review: Gold can also be earned through lifetime tier points and is renewed automatically each year while the member remains in the Club, and benefits already applied to a booking may vary if a member's tier changes before travel. [2]

  • Gold for life. Gold is awarded for life to members who earn the required number of lifetime tier points as stated on ba.com, and British Airways reserves the right to change or withdraw Gold for life with at least six months' notice. [2]
  • Benefit validity. Benefits such as seat selection, baggage allowance and lounge eligibility last until the expiry date of the current membership, and access to British Airways' own lounges is subject to eligibility and availability. [2] [4]
  • Missing tier points. Members can claim missing tier points on ba.com for flights taken up to six months earlier, and new members can claim for British Airways flights taken up to three months before joining; those tier points are added to the lifetime tier point balance. [2]
  • No transfers. Tier points, including lifetime tier points, must be earned by the member and are not transferable. [2]
  • Rule changes. British Airways may alter the rules for earning tier points, with notice in advance, and may offer additional schemes to specific groups of customers with nominated partners. [2]
