How to understand IHG One Rewards status match and elite tier requirements
IHG One Rewards is the hotel loyalty programme of IHG Hotels & Resorts, and its published member terms set four elite tiers above the base Club level — Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond Elite — each reached by collecting Elite Qualifying Points or Elite Qualifying Nights inside a calendar year. [3] A tier earned in one calendar year is then held through the end of the following calendar year. [3]

Key takeaways
- IHG One Rewards has one base level, Club, and four elite tiers above it: Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond Elite. [3]
- Each elite tier has two published routes in a calendar year — Elite Qualifying Points or Elite Qualifying Nights — except Silver, whose points requirement is not set. [3]
- Status earned in a calendar year is maintained through the end of the following calendar year, and surplus nights roll over for Gold, Platinum and Diamond members. [3]
- Elite benefits are personal: they are not transferable, and the member must personally check in and stay to use them. [3]
What are the IHG One Rewards elite tiers and thresholds?
The programme publishes a fixed points requirement and a fixed nights requirement for each elite tier, and reaching either one in a calendar year is enough to be awarded the tier. [3] IHG One Rewards defines a calendar year as 1 January to 31 December. [3] The hotel network behind the programme covers 21 brands and more than 7,000 destinations. [4]
| Elite tier | Elite Qualifying Points | Elite Qualifying Nights |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Elite | Not applicable | 10 |
| Gold Elite | 40,000 | 20 |
| Platinum Elite | 60,000 | 40 |
| Diamond Elite | 120,000 | 70 |
Silver is the one tier with no points route: the published table shows its points threshold as not applicable and its nights threshold as 10. [3]
How do you earn Elite Qualifying Points and Nights?
Only Elite Qualifying Points count towards elite status; the programme splits every point it awards into elite qualifying and non-elite qualifying categories. [3] Members collect Elite Qualifying Points on qualifying rates paid for hotel stays and on select partner activity. [3] The partner activity named for Elite Qualifying Points is Hertz car rentals, OpenTable reservations and Viator experiences. [3] Points earned from IHG and partner promotions, including cardmember bonuses unless stated otherwise, are non-elite qualifying. [3]
On the nights side, a qualifying night is a night within a qualifying stay, and only one night per day counts, so two rooms booked for the same date produce a single qualifying night. [3] Qualifying nights count towards the calendar year in which the check-out date falls. [3] Reward Nights count as qualifying nights even though no points are earned on the room rate; Reward Nights start at 10,000 points and carry no blackout dates. [3] [2] Bonus Elite Night Credits from partners and promotions also count towards elite status, and individual offers may let them count towards Milestone Rewards or rollover nights as well. [3]
Elite members also receive Elite Tier Bonus Points on qualifying stays, at 20% for Silver, 40% for Gold, 60% for Platinum and 100% for Diamond, and these are awarded only to members who collect IHG One Rewards Points. [3]
How long does IHG One Rewards elite status last?
Once a member earns an elite tier in a calendar year, the status is maintained through the end of the following calendar year. [3] A member who begins a calendar year already holding a tier still has to reach that tier's points or nights requirement during the year in order to keep it. [3]
Qualifying nights above the number needed for Gold, Platinum or Diamond roll over into the next calendar year and count towards elite status that year. [3] Rollover nights from an earlier year do not count towards the next year's rollover, and rollover nights count only towards elite status, not towards Milestone Rewards. [3] Milestone Rewards are earned on elite qualifying nights every 10 nights from 20 nights through 100 nights, in the calendar year of check-out. [3]
What exceptions and limits apply?
- One night per day. Bookings of more than one room for the same date produce only one qualifying night, and the year credited is the year of check-out, not check-in. [3]
- Where benefits apply. Benefits and services may change and may vary by hotel, country and region, and most are available only when the reservation is made through IHG websites, the IHG One Rewards app, the IHG WeChat mini program, IHG Customer Care, Iberostar booking channels or directly with an IHG branded hotel. [3] Members staying as part of a group booking receive the on-property tier benefits. [3]
- No sharing. Member benefits are for the individual member, are not transferable, and cannot be used by other members or non-members; a member must personally check in and stay, and any violation may result in cancellation of the account and in the hotel charging fees for non-eligible use. [3]
- Points expiry differs by tier. Elite members' points do not expire while elite level membership is maintained, whereas Club-level points expire when the account has no earn or redeem transaction for 12 months or longer; the one night per year provided to IHG One Rewards credit card holders is not earn or redeem activity for this purpose. [3]
- Corrections and account risk. Point and stay adjustments will not be made more than 90 days after the statement date. [3] IHG may cancel a membership and revoke unredeemed points for reasons that include misuse of benefits, fraud, or holding more than one active account, and it reserves the right to permanently cancel a membership with no activity for five years. [3]
