How to earn SKYPASS miles on SkyTeam partner flights
SKYPASS is Korean Air's frequent flyer programme, and partner earning under it depends on two things a member has to establish before the flight rather than after it: whether the fare paid is eligible, and which carrier actually operated the flight. SkyTeam membership by itself does not settle either question. Mileage and elite status are handled at the Korean Air–Asiana integration, including the different conversion treatment given to flight-accrued and partner-accrued mileage [4] [3].

Key takeaways
- After the integration date, new mileage is accrued only as SKYPASS mileage; Asiana Club mileage continues as a separate Asiana Mileage balance, with its existing balance and validity period, for 10 years [6].
- When Asiana mileage is converted, flight-accrued mileage converts at 100 to 100, while partner-accrued mileage converts at 100 to 82, with fractions rounded up to the nearest mile [4].
- Asiana Mileage is usable only on routes operated by Korean Air, not on SkyTeam or non-SkyTeam partner airlines [6].
Where new mileage accrues
At integration, Asiana Club mileage is transferred to the member's Korean Air account as Asiana Mileage, keeping its existing balance and validity period, and is operated separately for 10 years [6]. During that period a member holds both SKYPASS mileage and Asiana mileage in the same SKYPASS account [6]. Asiana mileage can be used but no longer accrued after the integration date, and any new mileage is accrued only as SKYPASS mileage [6].
Asiana mileage is usable for award tickets, seat upgrade awards and Cash and Miles on all routes operated by Korean Air, with the existing Asiana redemption standards applying to awards and upgrades [6]. Awards are available only on routes operated by Korean Air and are not available for SkyTeam or non-SkyTeam partner airlines [6]. Peak season dates, application methods and the rules on taxes and fuel surcharges are the same as for SKYPASS awards [6]. For Cash and Miles, a member buying a Korean Air ticket can pay with a minimum of 100 miles up to 40% of the fare [6]. A member holding both balances chooses which to spend, but the two cannot be combined for a single award; using them together requires converting the Asiana balance into SKYPASS mileage [6].
What partner-earned mileage converts to
Conversion into SKYPASS mileage happens at a fixed rate that differs according to where the mileage was earned: flight-accrued mileage converts at 100 Asiana miles to 100 SKYPASS miles, while partner-accrued mileage converts at 100 Asiana miles to 82 SKYPASS miles [4]. Any decimal fraction is rounded up to the nearest mile when converting [4].
Conversion can be requested at any time and ends the separate holding of Asiana mileage; it cannot be cancelled afterwards, and the converted mileage keeps the validity period it had before conversion [6]. At the end of the 10-year separate operation period, any remaining Asiana mileage is converted automatically at the fixed rate [6]. The conversion calculator produces an estimate based on the miles entered and may differ from the actual conversion at the time it is made [4].
Elite status is calculated separately
Elite tiers are matched rather than earned through this process: Asiana Platinum corresponds to Million Miler Club, Diamond Plus to Morning Calm Premium Club, Diamond Plus (Limited Term) and Diamond to Morning Calm Select Club, and Gold to Morning Calm Club, with the existing elite period maintained [5]. Where a member holds status in both programmes, the higher of the matched tier and the existing Korean Air tier becomes the final tier [5]. After the integration date only Korean Air elite tiers are operated and Asiana elite benefits are no longer provided, although coupons and vouchers received with Asiana elite status before integration can be used until their expiry date [5].
Status is re-evaluated when Asiana mileage is fully converted, with matching at integration and reassessment at the time of SKYPASS mileage conversion; the reassessment combines Asiana Airlines-operated flight mileage with existing Korean Air qualification mileage [3]. Only a higher combined result changes the tier, and otherwise the current tier and validity period remain unchanged [3]. The page illustrates this with examples: 10,000 Asiana-operated flight miles plus 40,000 qualification miles produces Morning Calm Club from a SKYPASS Club starting point, whereas 30,000 Asiana-operated flight miles plus 20,000 qualification miles calculates to Morning Calm Club but leaves a Morning Calm Select member in place, and the page notes that results vary with the member's actual tier and performance [3].
Exceptions and limits
- No published fare-class or minimum-credit rule.
- Asiana mileage cannot be spent on partners. It is usable for awards and upgrades only on routes operated by Korean Air, not on SkyTeam or non-SkyTeam partner airlines [6].
- The two balances stay apart. SKYPASS mileage and Asiana mileage cannot be combined for a single award, and conversion permanently ends the separate Asiana holding [6].
- Conversion is one-way. It cannot be cancelled after it is made, and the converted miles carry the validity they already had rather than a fresh validity period [6].
- Tier matching cuts both ways. The higher of the two tiers applies, so an existing Korean Air tier can be kept, but Asiana elite benefits stop after the integration date except for coupons and vouchers already issued [5].
- Reassessment does not downgrade. A combined result that is the same as or lower than the tier already held leaves the tier and its validity period as they were [3].
