How to earn WestJet points

WestJet Rewards is the loyalty program offered by WestJet, an Alberta Partnership, and WestJet points are the currency members collect in it. [1] Members earn WestJet points from eligible spend on WestJet-marketed flights and WestJet-Eligible Ancillaries, from WestJet Vacations and Sunwing Vacations packages, from select partner airlines and everyday partners, and from spending on a WestJet RBC credit card. Key takeaways

  • WestJet points come from three broad places: eligible spend on WestJet-marketed flights and WestJet-Eligible Ancillaries, purchases with Participating Partners and everyday partners, and spending on a WestJet RBC credit card that is credited to the primary cardholder's account. [1] [2]
  • The published flight rate depends on tier status: Teal members earn 1 WestJet point per $1 spent on WestJet flights, Silver members earn 3 points per $1, and Platinum members earn the most points across WestJet products. [4] [5] [6]
  • UltraBasic fares sit outside the WestJet Eligible Fares definition, and no points are awarded for refunded, void, unused or no-show tickets. [1]

How do you earn WestJet points on WestJet flights?

Members earn WestJet points on the eligible spend they pay on WestJet Eligible Fares and WestJet-Eligible Ancillaries for WestJet-marketed flights, identified by a WS carrier code before the flight number. [1] The rate applied depends on the member's tier status at the time of the activity or travel. [1]

WestJet Eligible Fares are fares published by WestJet other than UltraBasic fares. [1] The definition also leaves out Member Exclusive fares, contracted fares, reward program redemptions, tour operator fares, charters, other carrier-marketed code-share flights, WestJet Vacations bookings, Sunwing Vacations bookings and WestJet Vacations Quebec bookings. [1]

WestJet-Eligible Ancillaries include checked baggage, cabin upgrades and pre-reserved seats on itineraries made up entirely of WestJet-Marketed and Operated flights, and checked baggage where the first segment is a WestJet-Marketed and Operated flight and the second is operated by a code-share partner. [1] Items sold by WestJet on flights where WestJet is not the first segment are not WestJet-Eligible Ancillaries, and neither are ancillaries sold by Sunwing Vacations. [1]

On the Teal tier, members earn 1 WestJet point per $1 spent on WestJet flights, seat selection, baggage and upgrades, and 1 point per $1 spent on WestJet Vacations and Sunwing Vacations packages. [4] Silver members earn 3 points per $1 spent on WestJet flights. [5] Platinum members earn the most points across all WestJet products. [6] For a comparison with Aeroplan, see Aeroplan vs WestJet Rewards.

Do WestJet Vacations and Sunwing packages earn points?

WestJet points are awarded at published rates on WestJet Vacations Eligible Packages, Sunwing Vacations Eligible Packages and WestJet Vacations Land-Only Bookings to each WestJet Rewards member listed in the booking, based on that member's proportionate share of the total eligible spend. [1] Eligible spend can include base airfare on WestJet-operated flights, hotel, attractions, transfers and meal plans, and it excludes taxes, fees and other charges. [1] Where only one member is listed on all or some of the reservations, that member receives the points for the applicable portion. [1]

Group vacation package bookings are not eligible for WestJet points. [1] For Sunwing Vacations Eligible Packages, WestJet states that points and qualifying spend will not be issued where travel was fully completed before September 9, 2026, and that retroactive requests are considered only where travel was completed on or after that date. [1]

How many WestJet points do the WestJet RBC cards earn?

WestJet points are earned on purchases made by all cardholders on a WestJet Credit Card account, but they are awarded only to the WestJet Rewards account of the primary cardholder. [1]

The additional 0.5 point per $1 on WestJet flights and WestJet Vacations packages is calculated separately and is awarded only if WestJet or WestJet Vacations appears as the merchant on the monthly credit card statement, so a booking made through a travel agency or a third-party booking site may not earn it. [2] Points are earned on net purchases only: cash advances, including balance transfers, cash-like transactions and bill payments that are not pre-authorized charges set up with a merchant, earn nothing, as do interest charges and fees, and returns and adjustments reduce or cancel the points originally earned. [1] [2]

Primary cardholders on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard for Business also earn Status Lift, the equivalent of CAD 200 in tier qualifying spend for every $5,000 in eligible purchases, up to 50 times per qualifying year, credited about 10 business days after the statement date on which the $5,000 is reached. [2] Status Lift is a tier qualifying spend benefit rather than a WestJet points award. [2] For a side-by-side of the personal cards, see WestJet RBC cards compared.

How do partner airlines and everyday partners earn points?

WestJet points may also be earned on select Partner Eligible Fares on Partner-Marketed Flights, and whether the flight is operated by the partner or by WestJet, the member earns points based on mileage flown and class of service purchased at the published rates. [1] Partner Eligible Fares are fares published by a partner, less any discounts, and they exclude WestJet Rewards redemptions, tour operator fares, charters, other carrier-marketed code-share flights and vacation packages. [1] On Delta Air Lines, Silver and Platinum members earn WestJet points on every Delta booking based on distance flown, class of service and other factors. [5] [6]

Only one program can be credited per flight: a member of more than one frequent flyer program may earn reward credit under only one of them for each flight activity. [1]

With Participating Partners, points are awarded at set rates on the total amount of the completed transaction, excluding taxes and fees. [1] Participating Partners include car rentals, hotel bookings and travel insurance bought through WestJet, purchases through the WestJet Rewards eStore, and transactions with an everyday partner where the member has linked the WestJet Rewards account to the partner account. [1] Points are credited to the WestJet Rewards account associated with the purchase, regardless of who paid for it. [1] WestJet Rewards may also allow loyalty currency from a third-party rewards program to be converted into WestJet points, at its discretion, provided the conversion account carries the same name as the member's WestJet Rewards account. [1]

What the earning rules exclude

  • Posting time. Points are updated once the flight or package is completed, normally within 7 days, with up to 30 days allowed after travel. [1]
  • Refunds and no-shows. Points are not awarded for refunded, void or unused tickets, including unused non-refundable tickets, or where the member is a no-show. [1]
  • Retroactive credit. The member must give the WestJet Rewards ID at the time of booking or purchase; WestJet may consider retroactive requests for up to 12 months from the date of travel or purchase, provided the member was enrolled when the flight or purchase was completed. [1] Points are rounded to the nearest point. [1]
  • Purchases before joining. Purchases from Participating Partners and suppliers made before enrollment are not eligible unless WestJet Rewards permits otherwise. [1]
  • Partner failures. If a Participating Partner or supplier becomes insolvent, WestJet may reverse points accumulated through that partner or supplier in the 30 days before the insolvency, or at any time after. [1]
  • Account activity. WestJet points have no expiry date while the account stays active, and an account remains active if the member accrues, redeems, transfers or converts WestJet points within the preceding 24-month period. [1] WestJet may deactivate an inactive account and reassign the ID number, and when an account is deactivated all WestJet points and vouchers attached to it expire. [1] Except in fraud cases, WestJet may offer reactivation within 12 months of deactivation, including for a fee. [1] A member who closes the account forfeits any points in it immediately. [1]
  • Promotional points. WestJet may issue promotional or bonus points with a specific expiry date, governed by the terms of that campaign. [1] WestJet may also change the basis on which points are awarded at any time, with or without notice, and may correct points credited in error. [1]
