Part of OCBC Rewards Card Points (OCBC$) hub

COURSE

Start here: OCBC Rewards Card — earn, redeem, convert to miles and keep your points

OCBC$ are the rewards points earned when you charge transactions to an OCBC Rewards Card [3], a Mastercard issued by OCBC that can earn up to 50 OCBC$ for every S$5 spend [1]. This six-step course takes a cardholder in Singapore from what the card earns to a redemption or conversion completed, and points to the Flyerfolio guide behind each step.

Facts checked: 18 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • OCBC$ are earned on the OCBC Rewards Card, a Mastercard from OCBC that can earn up to 50 OCBC$ for every S$5 spend [1] [3].
  • Base earning is 5 OCBC$ per S$5 of retail spend and Bonus earning adds 45 OCBC$ per S$5 in the listed shopping categories, with a maximum of 10,000 Bonus OCBC$ per calendar month [1].
  • OCBC$ can be turned into statement credit, e-vouchers, products or external loyalty programme miles through the OCBC app [2] [3].
  • Every OCBC$ expires on the last day of the 24th calendar month from the month it was earned and cannot be reinstated afterwards [1] [2].
  • No status tiers are described, and the card programme terms prevail over the other documents in a conflict so far as they relate to this card [1].

What you will be able to do after this course

  • Say what OCBC$ is and which document settles a question about the card.
  • Work out what a planned purchase will earn once the S$5 block rule, the monthly Bonus cap and the merchant category list are applied.
  • Pick between statement credit, a voucher and a miles conversion, and check the conditions that apply before submitting.
  • Read your OCBC$ balance by expiry month and act before the earliest block lapses.

Step 1: What OCBC$ on the OCBC Rewards Card is and who it suits

You will learn: what OCBC$ is, which document governs it, and whether this card matches how you spend.

OCBC$ are the rewards points earned when you charge transactions to an OCBC Rewards Card [3]. The card is a Mastercard issued by OCBC that can earn up to 50 OCBC$ for every S$5 spend [1]. Three documents apply — the card programme terms, the OCBC Cardmembers Agreement and the OCBC Rewards Terms of Use — and where they conflict the card programme terms prevail in so far as they relate to the OCBC Rewards Card [1]. Benefits under the programme are not exchangeable or refundable for cash, credit or kind [1].

OCBC Rewards also holds other point currencies, including 90°N Miles and VOYAGE Miles, which belong to other cards and, unlike OCBC$, have no expiry date [2]. The card suits a cardholder in Singapore who shops regularly with merchants in the categories the terms list: the duty free, department store, clothing, shoe, sporting goods and luggage merchant category codes, plus the named merchants in clause 2 [1].

Go deeper: Singapore card points programmes compared and credit card points.

Step 2: How you join: holding the card and the OCBC app

You will learn: how the card is held, where your balance sits, and whose OCBC$ account the points land in.

No separate enrolment is described: usage of the card is deemed acceptance of the card programme terms, the OCBC Cardmembers Agreement and the OCBC Rewards Terms of Use [1]. On OCBC app > OCBC Rewards you can check your balance of OCBC Rewards Points, convert points between eligible programmes, redeem vouchers, products and services, and perform other transactions OCBC permits [2].

Two account rules matter from the start. The maximum Bonus OCBC$ is shared between the Principal Cardmember and the Supplementary Cardmember and is credited to the Principal Cardmember's OCBC$ account [1]. A Cardmember who opted for the SmartChange Programme is not entitled to earn OCBC$ [1].

Go deeper: authorized user and the card selection framework.

Step 3: How earning works: base, bonus, blocks and caps

You will learn: how Base and Bonus OCBC$ are calculated, why the S$5 block and the monthly cap decide most outcomes, and what earns nothing.

Base OCBC$ are 5 OCBC$ for every S$5 of retail spend, and Bonus OCBC$ add 45 OCBC$ for every S$5 of spend in the shopping categories defined in clause 2, which are set by merchant category code and by a list of named merchants [1]. The card page states the same earning per dollar: 1 OCBC$ for every S$1 spent as Base, plus an additional 9 OCBC$ for every S$1 spent on selected retail categories [3].

Bonus OCBC$ are capped at 10,000 per calendar month on each eligible card account; once that maximum is reached, transactions in the bonus categories earn only the Base OCBC$ [1]. OCBC may also count OCBC$ earned under other campaigns towards the 10,000 cap, at its absolute discretion [1].

OCBC$ are calculated on each block of S$5 charged per transaction: there is no partial or pro-rated award for an amount below a block, and amounts charged in separate transactions are not combined [1]. The terms illustrate it: a single transaction of between S$10 and S$14.99 can earn up to 100 OCBC$, while a single S$4.90 transaction, or two transactions of S$2.50 each, earns no OCBC$ [1].

The 5 Base OCBC$ are posted to the card account with every S$5 successfully charged, and the remaining 45 are posted by the end of the next calendar month following the transaction posting date [1]. Purchases that have not posted are not counted, and spend is computed on the transaction posted date [1].

Eligibility turns on the merchant category code, which payment card organisations assign and over which OCBC has no discretion [1]. Transactions under MCC 5411 (grocery stores and supermarkets) earn no Bonus OCBC$, and transactions described as "Shopee Pay" under MCC 5262 earn no OCBC$ at all [1]. Excluded Transactions in the OCBC Cards Rewards Transactions Exclusion List earn no OCBC$ [1], and OCBC reserves the right to revoke, deduct or recompute OCBC$ awarded [1].

Go deeper: merchant category code, card points earning cap, eligible card spend and card points posting.

Step 4: How to use OCBC$: statement credit, vouchers and miles

You will learn: the three ways to use OCBC$, the reference values the card page gives, and the conditions that apply before a conversion leaves OCBC.

OCBC$ are exchanged through OCBC app > Rewards [3]. The card page gives the statement-credit rate as 3,600 OCBC$ for a S$10 statement credit, and lists e-vouchers, products and experiences as further options [3]. Statement credit is credited to the Principal Cardmember's card account in blocks of S$10, S$50 and S$100, only to the card account of the card type used for the redemption and only up to the balance owing on that account, and it cannot be withdrawn as cash or transferred to another bank [2].

For miles, OCBC Rewards allows eligible OCBC$ to be converted to the loyalty points or miles of external loyalty programmes listed on OCBC Rewards [2]. As a reference, the card page gives 25,000 OCBC$ = 10,000 KrisFlyer miles, and lists Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Air France–KLM Flying Blue, British Airways Executive Club, Cathay, Etihad Guest and United MileagePlus among airlines, with ALL – Accor Live Limitless, IHG One Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy among hotels [3]. Conversion rates are set out on OCBC Rewards [2].

Before a conversion, you must be enrolled in the respective external programme, hold the requisite minimum amount of OCBC$ taking into account the applicable conversion rates and fees stated on OCBC Rewards, and send the miles to your own individual account bearing your own name [2]. A fee of S$25, or such other fee as OCBC may specify, plus applicable goods and services tax, is charged to the relevant card account for each Conversion Transaction; the OCBC$ required, including any applicable administrative fees and charges, are deducted immediately on submission, and conversion requests are final and cannot be cancelled or reversed once submitted [2]. OCBC is not responsible for points or miles once they have been successfully transferred, or for the actions of the loyalty partner; it is your responsibility to give the correct membership number, and an unsuccessful conversion is refunded along with the conversion fee [2].

Go deeper: card points statement credit, KrisFlyer card earning, transfer partner and the transfer points checklist.

Step 5: Keeping OCBC$: 24-month expiry, no tiers, closure

You will learn: the expiry date attached to every OCBC$ block, what happens on account closure, and why there is no tier to chase.

OCBC$ is a single points currency: the programme terms set out earning, caps and expiry without describing membership tiers [1]. Each OCBC$ remains valid until the last day of the 24th calendar month from the month in which it was earned, and unused OCBC$ expires on that date and cannot be reinstated, redeemed or used afterwards [1]. The OCBC Rewards Terms of Use state the same 24-month rule [2].

OCBC may revoke, deduct or recompute OCBC$ if the Principal Cardmember or Supplementary Cardmember fails to make due payment, or if the account is closed or terminated by the Cardmember or by OCBC [1]. If an account with an insufficient or negative OCBC$ balance is closed, OCBC may debit or charge, or require repayment of, the monetary value equivalent of the deficit, at a conversion rate it may determine and revise [1]. OCBC may suspend, withdraw or terminate the programme at any time without notice, and may delete, vary or amend its terms [1].

Go deeper: card points expiry and transferable points when closing a card.

Step 6: Your first concrete action

You will learn: a five-part first task that ends with a redemption or a conversion completed before an expiry date.

  1. Open the card programme terms, updated as of 5 October 2026, and confirm the card you hold is an OCBC Rewards Card [1]: Terms and Conditions Governing OCBC Rewards Card Programme (PDF).
  2. In OCBC app > Rewards, check your OCBC$ balance [2], then note which months' OCBC$ reach the last day of their 24th calendar month first [1].
  3. Before a large purchase, check the merchant's category code against the bonus list, and remember the S$5 block rule and the 10,000 Bonus OCBC$ monthly cap [1].
  4. Before converting to miles, confirm your partner account is in your own name and that you hold the minimum, and check the current rate and the S$25 fee on OCBC Rewards [2].
  5. Complete the redemption or conversion before the 24th-month expiry date, because expired OCBC$ cannot be reinstated or used [1].

Once that is done, the programme hub collects every OCBC Rewards page by task, and the KrisFlyer material takes the miles side further.
